    AbstractCorpus linguists are now facing a new challenge to collecting accurate data for web-based corpora: the ‘Right to be Forgotten’. This element of data protection legislation allows individuals to request that links to webpages be removed if the information contained there can now be considered inaccurate, irrelevant or excessive. The potential difficulties this poses for researchers are illustrated by my experience collecting data for a corpus of neologisms appearing in online versions of UK national newspapers

    Fashion misfit: women's dissatisfaction and its implications

    This study draws attention to the link between under-developed and ill-informed sizing practices, fit dissatisfaction and the creation of textiles waste. The literature review identifies: issues that limit the effective development and application of sizing systems, the link between the complexities of consumer fit expectations, body image and self esteem and maps the link between fit dissatisfaction and the creation of textiles waste. Data analysis draws from a wider study designed to investigate women’s experiences of dress fit and body image. 20 women aged 18-45 years were audio-recorded while they tried on a number of mass-produced dresses, and were asked to select one dress, which they could keep. All the dresses were selected except one style, which failed to satisfy any of the women’s fit requirements. The findings clearly demonstrate why this dress was considered to be unsatisfactory as well as the subsequent link between poor fit and body dissatisfaction. Findings support the theory that women identify with their clothes’ size and when this link is disrupted it causes discomfort and body dissatisfaction, which in turn contributed to rejection of the garment increasing the potential for the creation of waste. This study is the first to link unsatisfactory fashion sizing practice with the production of textiles waste. The process of capturing women's interactions with high street fashion dresses whilst trying them on, enabled a detailed analysis that contributes new evidence to the debate around sizing practice, poor fit and its impact on body image and self-esteem

    A Pluralistic Theory of Wordhood

    What are words and how should we individuate them? There are two main answers on the philosophical market. For some, words are bundles of structural-functional features defining a unique performance profile. For others, words are non-eternal continuants individuated by their causal-historical ancestry. These conceptions offer competing views of the nature of words, and it seems natural to assume that at most one of them can capture the essence of wordhood. This paper makes a case for pluralism about wordhood: the view that there is a plurality of acceptable conceptions of the nature of words, none of which is uniquely entitled to inform us as to what wordhood consists in

    The British Association for Psychopharmacology course on child and adolescent psychopharmacology has been run for more than 20 years and is currently a very popular course, attracting around 140 delegates/year from across the United Kingdom and abroad. As Faculty of recent sessions of the course, we have selected the most common questions we have been asked in recent years and provided evidence-based and/or expert-informed answers. We have included 27 questions and answers related to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and depressive disorders, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, epilepsy (in differential diagnosis or comorbid with mental health conditions), obsessive-compulsive disorder, personality disorders, psychotic spectrum disorders, and tics/Tourette syndrome in children and young people. We hope that this article will be helpful for prescribers in their daily clinical practice and we look forward to further, high-level evidence informing the answers to these and other questions in child and adolescent psychopharmacology

    Therapist-Supported Online Remote Behavioural Intervention for Tics (ORBIT) in Children and Adolescents: A Single-Blind Randomised Controlled Trial

    Background: Behaviour therapy is an effective treatment in children and adolescents with tic disorders but is rarely available. Online delivery could widen access to therapy. We evaluated the efficacy of internet-delivered, therapist-supported and parent-assisted Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for tics. / Methods: Multi-centre, parallel group, single-blind, randomised controlled trial. Eligible participants were aged 9-17 years with Tourette syndrome/chronic tic disorder, who had not received behaviour therapy for tics within 12 months, and had a Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) Total Tic Severity Score (TTSS) of >15, or >10 if motor or vocal tics only. Participants were recruited via 16 patient identification centres, two study sites, or online self-referral, and were randomised (1:1) by blinded outcome-assessors to receive either 10 weeks of ERP or psychoeducation (active control). The primary outcome was YGTSS-TTSS at 3 months’ post-randomisation, analysis was by intention-to-treat. The mean cost per patient for the intervention and health care costs were calculated. Registrations are ISRCTN (ISRCTN70758207) and ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03483493). / Findings: Between 8 th May 2018 and 30 th September 2019, 224 participants were enrolled; 112 to ERP and 112 to psychoeducation. The ERP intervention reduced YGTSS-TTSS by 2 . 29 points (95% CI: ‑3 . 86 to -0 . 71) compared to the psychoeducation group at 3 months, an effect that increased by 6 months post-randomisation (-2 . 64, 95% CI: -4 . 56 to -0 . 73). The average therapist time spent supporting the intervention was 2 . 5 hours. The additional cost per participant of the ERP intervention compared to psychoeducation was £159 (95% CI -£53 to £370). There were two unrelated serious adverse events, both in the psychoeducation group. / Interpretation: Online-delivered, therapist-supported ERP therapy is clinically effective at reducing tics, with minimal therapist contact time. Online delivery could improve access to evidence-based treatment for tics in children and adolescents
