Mentor Teachers: Teacher Leadership, Social Justice, and Self-Efficacy

    Get PDF
Teacher leadership, social justice, and self-efficacy are fundamental educational constructs that if collectively applied may facilitate the continuous development of pedagogical practices that bring forth academic equity and success to all students. Currently, the collective application of these constructs is critical because of the increase in diversity across socio-economic and ethnic groups among students and teachers in our educational systems. Thus, exemplary and socially just educational practices that can effectively meet the academic and professional needs of all are paramount in our educational communities. This empirical investigation assesses how mentor teachers can actively participate as pioneers for educational improvement, through their professional commitment as teacher leaders who are socially just and highly efficacious. The purpose of this study was to examine the attributes and the perceptions of teacher leadership, social justice, and self-efficacy that existed among five mentor teachers as they mentored and supported novice in-service teachers. The study used descriptive and embedded multiple case study analyses to empirically assess the strengths and areas of improvement needed among the mentor teachers related to the three constructs (teacher leadership, social justice, and self-efficacy). The findings revealed that mentor teachers areas of strength appeared to be in the teacher leadership and self-efficacy constructs, and their area of improvement needed appeared to be related to the social justice construct. Further, the number of years in teaching experience was not necessarily associated with mentor teachers\u27 perceptions of their effectiveness in teacher leadership, social justice, and self-efficacy. This study contributes to educational research with implications that social justice is a vital educational construct in which all educators should demonstrate competence while serve as agents of socialization in educational contexts. Altogether, teacher leadership, social justice, and self-efficacy are important educational constructs that if successfully applied in our educational communities, have the potential to generate exemplary pedagogical practices among mentor teachers and classroom teachers and positive academic outcomes for students

    1. Using liquid chromatography with CMC and paper electrophoresis the variances of the laying hen's serum protein patterns influenced by feeding condi-tions; fasting, formula ration and semi-purified diets (10 % and 20 % protein levels) feeding were investigated and discussed. 2. Thirteen fractions were demonstrated by means of liquid chromatography. Fraction A, which seemed to involve mucoprotein, strikingly reduced through fasting. Fraction D seemed to be lipoprotein, and showed characteristic variances on laying. Fraction F seemed to involve the characteristic protein for egg production. Other fractions fairly changed through feeding conditions and egg-laying. 3. According to the electrophoretic analysis, fasting brought about a considerable increase of the A/G ratio as the result of a progressive decrease in the gamma globulin fraction. Moreover, when hens were fed with the 20 yo protein level semi-purified diet, reduction of albumin, in the both analyses, electrophoresis and liquid chromatography, was observed. 4. Free amino acid analysis of serum by paper chromatography showed some increase of leucine (isoleucine), cystine, serine and histidine on fasting for 48 hours, but glutamic acid and glycine showed a tendency to decrease slightly. 5(EX): 145-154(1968)departmental bulletin pape

Indian plan for Satellite-Based Navigation Systems for Civil Aviation

    Get PDF
The Airports Authority of India and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement a satellite based navigation system as part of the satellite based Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) and Air Traffic Management (ATM) plan for Civil Aviation in India. For satellite based navigation in India two core constellations--Global Positioning System (GPS) of the United States and GLONASS of the Russian Federation--are available. The position accuracies achievable with these core constellations are not good enough for precision approach and landing requirements of Civil Aviation. These constellations need to be augmented. Three types of augmentation systems are possible - Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS), Aircraft Based Augmentation Systems (ABAS) and Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS). ISRO will implement SBAS as a proof of concept. Named GAGAN, it will incorporate GPS augmented by a geosynchronous segment. This paper describes the Indian Plan for a Satellite Based Navigation System for Civil Aviation. A brief outline of the three segments - User Segment, Space Segment and Ground Segment necessary for implementation of an SBAS system over the Indian airspace is described. Social capital is becoming an increasingly subtle part of achieving social economic goals especially in grassroots of a developing country. Kenya is in an infantile state of appreciating social capital as a panacea for economic growth albeit the developing economic status of the country. The study focused on examining the influence of structural social capital on the performance of social enterprises in Nairobi city county, Kenya. Mixed methodology was applied in the study that also adopted a descriptive cross sectional survey design.  The target population was 300 composed of registered social enterprises in Nairobi County. 107 social enterprises were selected through simple random sampling. Self administered, semi- structured questionnaire was administered. The reliability of the research tool was established through a pilot test retest procedure, whose cronbanch alpha was established to be above 0.7. Descriptive and inferential statistics methods were adopted for data analysis. Hypothesis was tested using ANOVA. To test for statistical significance of the relationship of the variables Pearson’s moment correlation and chi-square were used. The regression analysis for structural social capital on performance yielded regression coefficient of 0.262, p=0.049<0.05. This implies that the Structural Social Capital have positive influence on Performance of Social Enterprise that is statistically significant at 5%. H0= Structural social capital does not influence social enterprise performance was rejected.
