    Phytochemical and antibacterial properties of leaves of Alstonia scholaris R. Br.

    Phytochemical and antibacterial activity of leaves of Alstonia scholaris R.Br. was investigated. The different solvent extracts showed the presence of Iridoids, alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, leucoanthocyanins, reducing sugars, simple phenolics, steroids, saponins and tannins. Antibacterialactivity was tested against both Gram +ve and -ve organisms. The methanol leaves extract exhibited broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against tested organisms. Maximum activity was exhibited against Bacillus subtilis followed by Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Chloroform and acetone leafextracts exhibited lesser activity, while petroleum ether extract showed no inhibition

    A study of menstrual disturbance in cases of fibroid uterus

    Background: Leiomyoma’s also called fibroids due to their abundant fibrotic tissue have a 70-80% cumulative incidence in childbearing years. Fibroids are the most common occurring benign tumors. Fibroids represent a tremendous public health burden on women and economic cost on society.Methods: It is prospective study done over a period of one year, 50 cases presenting to the obstetrics and gynecology department. Women included were in their reproductive age between 30-55 yrs. of age and had experienced menstrual bleeding complaints.Results: The prevalence of uterine fibroids ranged from 46% in age group 41-45yrs, 24% in 46-50yrs, and 11% in 36-40yrs. Women with uterine fibroids complained of menorrhagia in 78%, dysmenorrhea in 30%, metrorrhagia in 10%, polymenorrhea 22%, pain in abdomen 22%, urinary problem 8%, SCOPV 6%, primary infertile 4%, leucorrhea 12% and lump in abdomen 4%.Conclusions: Uterine fibroid is a common problem in women of reproductive age causing various bleeding and pain symptoms that can have negative impact on various aspects of women’s life

    Attempt on Magnification of the Mechanism of Enzyme Catalyzed Reaction through Bio-geometric Model for the Five Points Circle in the Triangular Form of Lineweaver-Burk Plot

    oai:sciengtexopen.org:article/120The bio-geometrical model is dealing with correlation between the “five events for enzyme catalyzed reaction” and “triple point event serving groups on the circle” in triangle obtained for the graphical presentation of the double reciprocal for magnification of the mechanism of enzyme catalyzed reaction. This model is based on the nine point circle in triangle of the double reciprocal plot. The five significant points (B, D, E, F and G) resulted for the circle with x – and y – coordinates. The present attempt is considering interactions among enzymes and substrates for the successful release of product through each and every point on the circle in triangle. The controlling role of the point, “O”, center of circle in each and every event of the biochemical reaction is obligatory.  The model is allotting specific role for the significant events in the biochemical reaction catalyzed by the enzymes. The enzymatic catalysis is supposed to be completed through five events, which may be named as, “Bio-geometrical events of enzyme catalyzed reaction”. These five events for enzyme catalyzed reaction include: (1) Initial event of enzymatic interaction with the substrates; (2) Event of the first transition state for the formation of “enzyme-substrate” complex; (3) Event of the second transition state for the formation of “enzyme-product” complex; (4) Event of release of the product and relieve enzyme and (5) The event of directing the enzyme to continue the reaction. The model utilizes the “triple point serving group on the circle” for the success of each and every event in the biochemical reaction. Thus, there is involvement of the three points including the point “O” for each event in the enzyme catalyzed reaction. The group of points serving for carrying out the event may be classified into five conic sections like: B-O-E; E-O-G; G-O-D; D-O-F and F-O-B.     Fibromyoma of the uterus and its surgical management

    Background: Uterine fibroids are the commonest tumor affecting the female reproductive tract. In many instances they are asymptomatic, but in some women there does appear to be an association with heavy menstrual blood loss and subfertility. Classically treatment has been surgical with hysterectomy the most common approach for women who have completed their fertility and myomectomy for those who wish to conceive. The surgery can be carried out laparoscopically, vaginally and abdominally, although all routes are associated with an appreciable rate of morbidity. The aims of this study are (i) to formulate the line of surgical treatment of fibromyomas according to age and parity of the patient, (ii) to assess their efficacy, safety and long-term outcome.Methods: A study of 50 patients attending the Obstetrics and Gynecology OPD of a tertiary care institute was conducted over a period of one year. Detailed history and examination of the patients were done.Results: The best surgical options for individual patients were evaluated according to age and parity of the patient. Various surgical options were Hysterectomy and Myomectomy.Conclusions: Uterine fibroids can cause multiple bleeding and pain symptoms, which might have a negative impact on women's life, influencing their sexual, social and work life. Despite these consequences uterine fibroid data, especially on epidemiology, symptomatology and their impact on women's health are still limited and further research is required

    Rarest variations of ectopic pregnancy: an obstetrician's dilemma

    Ectopic pregnancy is an important cause of morbidity and mortality which has always proven to be a challenge to obstetricians. Increased usage of artificial reproductive techniques has not only increased tubal ectopic pregnancies but also other rarer forms of ectopic pregnancies. With newer diagnostic and therapeutic tools, chance of early detection and intervention has increased many fold. Conservative treatment options have also gained importance. Here we discuss 3 peculiar types of rare ectopic pregnancies-heterotopic pregnancy, caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy and rudimentary horn ectopic pregnancy- and their treatment options.

    Wild Edible Plants Used By the Tribes of Akole Tahasil of Ahmednagar District (Ms), India

    The present communication deals with the ethnobotanical exploration,identification,concerns and future potentialities of the wild edible plant species consumed by the tribal communities inhabiting in the hilly areas of akole tahasil of Ahmednagar district fall in Maharashtra state-India. A total of 31 plant species belonging to 23 families were reported from the study area. Amaranthaceae was the dominant family with 4 taxa,while Papilionaceae followed with 3 taxa. Ascplepidaceae and Bignoniaceae represented by 2 taxa each. The four major life forms were climbers, herbs, shrubs and trees. Herb makes up the highest proportion of the edible species followed by trees, shrubs and climbers. The plant species are divided into two class-vegetables and raw. Also the present finding support further investigation into nutritional profits, pharmacological prospects and conservational studies
