    Subsurface drip irrigated potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) with saline water under Tunisian climate

    Field experiment was conducted at the Higher Institute of Agronomy of Chott Meriem (Tunisia) during the growing season (2011/2012) to investigate the effects of water quality on water‘s dynamic in soil (water potential, soilcmoisture distribution, water’s stock in soil) and water use efficiency (WUE) to produce potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). Irrigation management treatments were fresh (1 dS m-1) and saline waters (4 dS m-1). Subsurface drip irrigation was used, a rate of 4 L h-1 applied at the same irrigation duration and interval. The results indicate that water content is more uniform using the saline water varies from 15 to 23% than treatment varies from 10 to 26%. The recorded changes occurred due to improving soil water distribution in root zone are explained by the increased salinity and the existence of a root system more intense level of treatment. Water quality has no direct effect on water use efficinency

    Hubungan Ekspresi Osteocalcin dan Interleukin-1β dengan Status Inflamasi Periodontal

    Periodontitis is inflammation of the periodontal tissue that can cause progressive damage to the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. Clinical examination to determine the degree of damage to the alveolar bone using a periodontal probe instrument or probing. Cellular activity in the gingival crevicular fluid is thought to be a biomarker to determine the inflammatory status of the periodontal tissue. Cellular immune responses suggest the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of gingivitis and periodontitis. The cytokines observed in this study were the protein Osteocalcin and Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). In this study, 67 patients were examined for the condition of their periodontal tissues including the severity of gingivitis and periodontal probing. The gingivitis group was divided into 4 groups, namely normal, mild, moderate, and severe. Meanwhile, for probing samples were grouped based on probing into 3 groups. Group I (0-3 mm), group II (3.1-5 mm) and group III (> 5 mm). GCF was obtained using paper points that were left in the gingival sulcus for 30 seconds. Then paper points are put into cryovial tubes which are sent to the laboratory for ELISA test. The observed data on the expression of Osteocalcin and IL-1β were then performed statistical tests. Osteocalcin and IL-1β expression showed a significant difference with the severity of gingivitis cases. In the other hand, it did not show a significant difference with difference of periodontal pocket depth. Osteocalcin and IL-1β expression associated with the severity of gingivitis cases

    Abstract: The seed produced locally are much valued in circles with biotic and abiotic stress and which house promoting exchange such as the oasis. More these seeds are kept; the greater the chances are reassuring to meet the nourishment of future generations. In this framework, this study aims identification and characterization of the major seed of the local vegetable species in a coastal oasis, that of Chenini. The physical characterization of these seeds shows that: -Specific purity is low for the blette be 59.12%, average for the parsley, radishes and carrots and very high for onion, turnips and cucumber, they are respectively 93.29%m, 94.13% and 94.10. -The high doses of NaCl in irrigation waters have created a regression of germination rates of species studied except for the turnip who keeps a germination rate high enough 82% even with the solution 6 g/l NaCl

    Salah satu fase dalam penyembuhan luka adalah fase inflamasi. Limfosit merupakan sel pusat dari sistem imunitas yang mempunyai peranan penting dalam proses inflamasi. Salah satu bahan alami yang dapat membantu proses penyembuhan luka adalah gelatin. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian gelatin ikan patin (Pangasius djambal) terhadap jumlah limfosit pada proses penyembuhan luka pasca pencabutan gigi tikus wistar putih (Rattus norvegicus). Desain penelitian adalah eksperimental murni dengan Post Test Only Randomized Control Group Design secara in-vivo. Gelatin ikan patin dibuat dengan metode modifikasi tanpa proses pengeringan. Penghitungan sel imfosit secara manual menggunakan mikroskop digital dengan perbesaran 400x yang didapat dari preparat soket alveolar tikus Wistar. Identifikasi sel limfosit dilakukan dengan pewarnaan HE. Hasil penelitian, uji One Way ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok perlakuan yang menggunakan gelatin ikan patin dengan kelompok kontrol. Uji Korelasi Pearson menunjukkan korelasi negative antara variabel penelitian, dimana semakin rendah hasil hitung limfosit pada kelompok kontrol (K), maka semakin tinggi hasil hitung limfosit pada kelompok perlakuan (P). Disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak gelatin ikan patin berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan jumlah sel limfosit pada proses penyembuhan luka pasca pencabutan gigi tikus wistar putih

    The relationship between the level of periodontal pocket depth with gingival crevicular fluid weight using analytical balance as an indicator of periodontal tissue inflammation

    Background: The present study aims to determine the relationship between the level of periodontal pocket depth with the weight of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF)using an analytical balance. Material and Methods: This is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The level of periodontal pocket depth was analyzed by probing. Twenty-seven subjects were divided into three groups, namely, group 1 (with normal pocket depth: 0-3.5 mm), group 2 (pocket depth of 3.6-5.5 mm), and group 3 (pocket depth of more than 5.5 mm). GCF sampling was conducted by the infraclavicular method using paper points and its weight measurement wit han analytical balance. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance followed by post hoc Tukey test to determine the comparison of GCF's weight between groups. The correlation was determined using the Pearson correlation test. Results: The average of GCF's weight obtained respectively in each group was 0.352 ± 0.09 mcg, 0.598 ± 0.10 mcg, and 0.899 ± 0.06 mcg. There was a significant difference (p 5.5 mm. The Pearson correlation test showed that there was a positive correlation between the depth of the periodontal pocket and the weight of GCF. Conclusion: The level of periodontal pocket depth is related to the weight of GCF

    Korelasi Kadar Fibrin Monomer (Fm) Dan Aktivitas Mikropartikel (Mp) Dengan Kadar Fibrinogen Pada Pasien Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (Aiha)

    Pasien AIHA dapat menunjukkan keadaan hiperkoagulasi dengan manifestasi klinis trombosis yang seringkali diabaikan. Dugaan komplikasi trombosis sering dihubungkan dengan tingginya kadar fibrinogen plasma. Fibrin monomer lebih spesifik dibandingkan fibrinogen sedangkan MP dapat menggambarkan kondisi trombosis lebih dini. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengetahui korelasi kadar FM dan aktivitas MP dengan kadar fibrinogen sehingga diharapkan ada kandidat penanda kecurigaan suatu kejadian trombosis pada pasien AIHA. Metode: Observasional analisis dengan pendekatan pengambilan data potong lintang. Empatpuluh lima pasien AIHA dibagi menjadi 19 pasien dengan kadar fibrinogen normal dan 26 pasien dengan kadar fibrinogen tinggi yang kemudian diperiksa kadar FM plasmanya dengan prinsip immunoturbidimetry dan aktivitas MP dengan prinsip kronometrik menggunakan alat Sta compact max. Hasil dianalisis dengan uji beda Mann-Whitney U Test dan uji korelasi Spearman’s rho menggunakan SPSS 20. Hasil dan Pembahasan: Kadar FM lebih tinggi (p= 0,030) dan aktivitas MP lebih pendek secara signifikan (p= 0,011) pada pasien AIHA dengan kadar fibrinogen tinggi (FM= 5,47 ± 3.19 μg/mL, MP= 61,93 ± 33,46 detik) dibandingkan dengan pada pasien AIHA dengan kadar fibrinogen normal (FM= 3,55 ± 1,20 μg/mL, MP= 95,94 ± 42,64 detik). Kadar FM berkorelasi signifikan positif (r= 0,545, p= 0,000) dengan kadar fibrinogen dan aktivitas MP berkorelasi signifikan negatif (r= -0,515, p= 0,000) pada pasien AIHA. Hemolisis yang terjadi dapat memunculkan MP yang mengandung fosfolipid prokoagulan yang dapat menginduksi terjadinya trombosis. Semakin banyak MP tersebut semakin cepat pula waktu yang diperlukan untuk menyebabkan clot yang ditandai dengan waktu aktivitas MP yang memendek. Pembentukan fibrin dari turunan fibrinogen yang kemudian berubah menjadi fibrin monomer dan bekuan fibrin yang tidak larut merupakan proses lanjutan pengeluaran MP. Kesimpulan: Kadar FM dan aktivitas MP berkorelasi signifikan dengan kadar fibrinogen pada pasien AIHA. Perlu penelitian lanjutan untuk melihat apakah FM dan MP dapat berperan sebagai penanda trombosis pada pasie

    The Phylogenetic Origin of oskar Coincided with the Origin of Maternally Provisioned Germ Plasm and Pole Cells at the Base of the Holometabola

    The establishment of the germline is a critical, yet surprisingly evolutionarily labile, event in the development of sexually reproducing animals. In the fly Drosophila, germ cells acquire their fate early during development through the inheritance of the germ plasm, a specialized maternal cytoplasm localized at the posterior pole of the oocyte. The gene oskar (osk) is both necessary and sufficient for assembling this substance. Both maternal germ plasm and oskar are evolutionary novelties within the insects, as the germline is specified by zygotic induction in basally branching insects, and osk has until now only been detected in dipterans. In order to understand the origin of these evolutionary novelties, we used comparative genomics, parental RNAi, and gene expression analyses in multiple insect species. We have found that the origin of osk and its role in specifying the germline coincided with the innovation of maternal germ plasm and pole cells at the base of the holometabolous insects and that losses of osk are correlated with changes in germline determination strategies within the Holometabola. Our results indicate that the invention of the novel gene osk was a key innovation that allowed the transition from the ancestral late zygotic mode of germline induction to a maternally controlled establishment of the germline found in many holometabolous insect species. We propose that the ancestral role of osk was to connect an upstream network ancestrally involved in mRNA localization and translational control to a downstream regulatory network ancestrally involved in executing the germ cell program

    Exploring the Predictive Value of Inflammatory Biomarkers in COVID-19 Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study in Malang, Indonesia

    The objective of this study was to assess the predictive value of inflammatory biomarkers in COVID-19 patients, namely the CRP/albumin ratio (CAR), interleukin 6 (IL-6), IL-6/lymphocyte ratio (IL-6/LY), and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR). A prospective cohort study was conducted between January to June 2021 at Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. CRP and albumin levels were measured using COBAS C6000. IL-6 was measured using the enzymatic chemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) method and NLR was calculated based on flow cytometry evaluation of neutrophil and lymphocyte. Patient outcomes were obtained from medical records. Out of the 102 COVID-19 patients, 60 were non-survivors. The findings revealed that the area under the receiver (AUC) for CAR, IL-6, IL-6/LY, and NLR were 0.71, 0.77, 0.75, and 0.65, respectively. Kaplan-Meier curve analysis demonstrated significant differences between the groups stratified by these cut-off values. Notably, CAR and IL-6 exhibited the most accurate predictive values for mortality in COVID-19 patients. These findings suggest that CAR and IL-6 may serve as valuable biomarkers for predicting mortality in COVID-19 patients. Importantly, CAR offers an advantage over IL-6 as it is relatively more affordable, making it a viable option even if COVID-19 becomes endemic
