    Mutual information as an order parameter for quantum synchronization

    Spontaneous synchronization is a fundamental phenomenon, important in many theoretical studies and applications. Recently this effect has been analyzed and observed in a number of physical systems close to the quantum mechanical regime. In this work we propose the mutual information as a useful order parameter which can capture the emergence of synchronization in very different contexts, ranging from semi-classical to intrinsically quantum mechanical systems. Specifically we first study the synchronization of two coupled Van der Pol oscillators in both classical and quantum regimes and later we consider the synchronization of two qubits inside two coupled optical cavities. In all these contexts, we find that mutual information can be used as an appropriate figure of merit for determining the synchronization phases, independently of the specific details of the system

    Extension of the Huttner-Barnett model to a magnetodielectric medium

    The Huttner-Barnett model is extended to a magnetodielectric medium by adding a new matter field to this model. The eigenoperators for the coupled system are calculated and electromagnetic field is written in terms of these operators. The electric and magnetic susceptibility of the medium are explicitly derived and shown to satisfy the Kramers-Kronig relations. It is shown that the results obtained in this model are equivalent to the results obtained from the phenomenological methods.Comment: 25 page

    Safety evaluation of chloramine-T on ornamental zebra fish (Danio rerio) using LC50 calculation and organ pathology

    The need of aquarists for proper and safe disinfection of fish with Chloramine-T (CL-T) necessitates toxico/pathologic examinations. This study assays toxicity level of CL-T and histopathologic changes of gills, liver, kidney and brain of treated zebrafish (Danio rerio). Groups of 10 Zebrafish were treated with 0 (control), 5, 10, 15, 30, 50, 100 and 200 mg/L of CL-T. Mortality was recorded at every 6 hours until 96h after the beginning of the treatment and lethal concentration for 50% of population (LC50 at 24h and 96h) was calculated. The histopathologic samples were taken from dying fish during the exposure period. Histopathological changes were not evident in organs of the control group. In the gills of treatment groups, congestion, edema, separation of epithelium of secondary lamella from basal membrane, fusion and hypertrophy of secondary lamella, telangiectasis and necrosis of lamella epithelium were observed. In the liver of treatment groups degenerative changes and necrosis of hepatocytes were visible. The kidney samples represented hydropic degeneration, necrosis, dilation of periglomerular urinary space and hyaline droplets in renal tubules in high concentration. The brain of treatment groups showed spongiosis and increase in glial cells. Severity of these lesions was related to the concentration of CL-T. LC50 24h for CL-T was 428.649 mg/L and LC50 96h was 11.044 mg/L which reveals the low level of toxicity for few hours of treatment. The concentrations below 15mg/L are reasonably safe and recommended for usage in D. rerio treatment during 24h of bath

    Effects of adenotonsillectomy on plasma inflammatory biomarkers in obese children with obstructive sleep apnea: A community-based study.

    BackgroundObesity and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) are highly prevalent and frequently overlapping conditions in children that lead to systemic inflammation, the latter being implicated in the various end-organ morbidities associated with these conditions.AimTo examine the effects of adenotonsillectomy (T&A) on plasma levels of inflammatory markers in obese children with polysomnographically diagnosed OSA who were prospectively recruited from the community.MethodsObese children prospectively diagnosed with OSA, underwent T&A and a second overnight polysomnogram (PSG) after surgery. Plasma fasting morning samples obtained after each of the two PSGs were assayed for multiple inflammatory and metabolic markers including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-18, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), adiponectin, apelin C, leptin and osteocrin.ResultsOut of 122 potential candidates, 100 obese children with OSA completed the study with only one-third exhibiting normalization of their PSG after T&A (that is, apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) ≤1/hour total sleep time). However, overall significant decreases in MCP-1, PAI-1, MMP-9, IL-18 and IL-6, and increases in adropin and osteocrin plasma concentrations occurred after T&A. Several of the T&A-responsive biomarkers exhibited excellent sensitivity and moderate specificity to predict residual OSA (that is, AHI⩾5/hTST).ConclusionsA defined subset of systemic inflammatory and metabolic biomarkers is reversibly altered in the context of OSA among community-based obese children, further reinforcing the concept on the interactive pro-inflammatory effects of sleep disorders such as OSA and obesity contributing to downstream end-organ morbidities

    Infection of skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis (Linnaeus 1758) of Oman Sea with cestode Trypanorhyncha (Diesing 1863)

    Numerous reports on existence of white cysts in musculature of skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis and lack of information about the quality of cysts and individual responses of fish to them led the authors to focus on this fish as a commercially valuable species. This study investigated the histopathologic responses of skipjack tuna to highly prevalent cystic larval stages of Trypanorhyncha. Some 92.25% of 400 examined skipjack tuna of Oman Sea (Iran) captured from processing center in Chabahar have been diagnosed infected by Trypanorhyncha Larvae through gross muscle examination. Minimum of 5 to maximum of 19 cysts were observed per each flank flesh with no significant difference between number of cysts from right (9 ± 4) and left flanks (10 ± 4) and also males and females (p>.05, t- student test (spss version 16)). Using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining of 4µm sections of surrounded cysts with muscle and light microscopy observations each metacestode was distinguished encapsulated by surrounding fibrous cyst wall consists of thin inner layer and a thick outer layer with the minimal histopathologic changes around it. The highly prevalent Trypanorhyncha infection in Oman Sea represents the high rate of infection among elasmobranches. The ability of encapsulated parasite to escape from the immune system of the host is assumed as one reason for the observed minimal tissue response in infected fish and the continuation of infection among elasmobranches and teleosts of Omen Sea

    Minimal coupling method and the dissipative scalar field theory

    Challenges of disinfection by-products in water and effect on the men's health infertility- A Narrative review

    Chlorination is the most common disinfectant in the water treatment process. The reaction between Natural Organic Matter (NOM) in water and chlorine lead to the formation of harmful disinfectant by-products (DBPs). The most common DBPs (HAAs and THMs) impose risks on human health. The data acquired from human samples on the relationship of men's infertility with DBPs exposure are limited and epidemiological studies have reported various results about the association between long-term exposure to DBPs and the adverse effect on the man's infertility (sperm concentration, semen quality and sperm motility). Previous cellular studies show that HAAs and THM damaged DNA by their effect on the ROS generation and Oxidative stress, respectively. Moreover, CDBM can lead to decreased litter sizes and pup viability. Bromodichloromethane (BDCM) cause the production of sperm abnormalities. In addition, Trichloromethane (TCM) led to increase the degeneration of epididymis ductal epithelium. Dibromoacetic acid (DBAA) and Bromochloroacetic acid (BCAA) led to synergistical decrease in the levels of SP22 sperm membrane protein. Likewise, BCAA and DBAA resulted in testicular damage. It should be noted that synergistic effect between Br THMs and TCAA in relation to below-reference sperm count was demonstrated.     Pojava infiltrativnog lipoma sa znatnom ulceracijom sirišta u janjeta - prikaz slučaja

    Infiltrating lipoma is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm that characteristically infiltrates adjacent tissues. This type of lipoma is extremely rare in the stomach. Infiltrative lipomas have been reported in dogs, cats, horses, calves and humans. The present study describes the occurrence of an infiltrating lipoma with ulceration in the abomasum of a 6-month old lamb that was exposed accidentally. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the fi rst report of an infiltrative lipoma with ulceration in the pyloric region of this species. The mass was intramural and unmovable on palpation. Histopathologic examination revealed well differentiated adipocytes in submucosal layer of abomasums. Invasion of adipocytes had occurred in tunica muscularis. An infiltrative lipoma was diagnosed based on microscopic findings.Infiltrativni lipom rijetka je mezenhimska novotvorina osebujna po infiltraciji priliježećeg tkiva. Taj je tip lipoma iznimno rijedak u želucu. Opisan je u psa, mačke, konja, teleta i čovjeka. U ovom prikazu opisana je pojava slučajno otkrivenoga infiltrativnoga lipoma s ulceracijom u sirištu šestomjesečnoga janjeta. Po spoznajama autora to je prvo izvješće o pojavi infiltrativnog lipoma u ovaca s ulceracijom u piloričnom području. Tumorska masa bila je smještena u stijenci sirišta i nepokretna na palpaciju. Patohistološki uočeni su dobro izdiferencirani adipociti u submukoznom dijelu sirišta. Adipociti su se proširili na mišićnicu (tunica muscularis). Lipom je bio dijagnosticiran na osnovi mikroskopske pretrage
