Phytopharmacological and ethnomedicinal uses of the Genus Berberis (Berberidaceae): A review

    Get PDF
Plants belonging to Berberis are reported in several folklore medicinal pharmacopeias and are used in traditional medicines in Asia and European countries. The plants have been used in the preparation of various traditional and synthetic medicines since pre-historic times for wound healing, fever, eye disease, jaundice, vomiting during pregnancy, rheumatism, kidney and gall balder stones, and several other illnesses. Their healing properties are appear to be due to the presence of secondary metabolites and important alkaloids with different pharmacological activities. Their antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-diabetic, and anti-tumor activities as well as positive effects on the cardiovascular and body immune systems have been reported. Root extracts of some species of the plant genus contain quinine which acts as a powerful anti-malarial agent. The main chemical constituents of Berberis plants are alkaloids, steroids, glycosides, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids and reducing sugars. Of these alkaloids, berberine is the most important. The present review focuses on recent advances in phytopharmacological and ethnomedicinal uses of plants belonging to Berberis genus. Keywords: Berberis, Alkaloids, Berberine, Pharmacology, Phytochemistry, Ethnomedicinal use

Employment traits have been studied having an impact over the organization commitment of the teachers. However, the scholars have inconsistent views regarding the relative strength of different traits groups such as Experience, Education, Type of Organizations, Chairpersonship, Salary and Designation over the commitment. In existing study, Meyer and Allen (1984-1997) “Three Component Model” was employed for collection of commitment profile of 312 both Public and Private faculty members of Institute of Management Sciences of Pakistan. Test of significance both t and ANOVA was applied and results of the statistical test divulge that most of the demographic variable like (experience, education, Salary etc.) causes a variation in the mean of commitment of the faculty members of Higher Education Institutions of Pakistan

Impulse noise reduction using image fusion approach

Digital image enhancement has been a hot topic during the past decades. In this paper, we have established a new fusion based approach for impulse noise reduction from multi-sensors images. Image fusion is an important technique used in remote sensing, military and medical applications. In the proposed approach, firstly, only the uncorrupted pixels from multi-sensor images are grouped and then all those grouped pixels are filter with another state of the art approach for optimal results. The proposed approach is tested with several noisy images by finding the Mean Square Error, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio and Mutual Information values between the original and restored images. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outclasses all methods that individually de-noised and fused images

Organizational commitment of workers has captured the attention of social-researchers. Many organizations are facing the problem of less commitment among employees. Little importance has been given to work–family conflict as one of the many causes of decreasing commitment towards the job. This research was undertaken to check the impact of three forms of work-family conflict (WFC): Time, Behavior and Strain-based, on organizational commitment of nurses in public sectors hospitals of District Bhakkar, Pakistan. Data was collected through survey approach by administering the questionnaires among 110 nurses. Tests of Correlation and regression showed that, WFC-Time was the most significant predictors of less organizational commitment. These findings suggests to the nurses to manage their work and family commitments responsibly. Key Words: Work family conflict, time, strain, behavior, Organizational commitment, affective, normative, continuance

Objective: To compare efficacy of Peritonsillar Dexamethasone with Peritonsillar Bupivacaine in managing post-tonsillectomy pain in children. Study design: Randomized Controlled Trial Setting & Period: ENT Department Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH) Rawalpindi from 01-06-2019 to 31-11-2020. Material &Methods: A total of sixty patients of both genders between ages of 5-15 years fulfilling the recognized criteria for tonsillectomy were selected. They were equally divided into two groups; Group A received peritonsillar Bupivacaine while Group B received peritonsillar Dexamethasone. Mean post-tonsillectomy Visual Analogue Score (VAS) at 1st, 2nd and 7th day were recorded in both groups and compared using independent sample ‘t’ test. Results: In group A Mean post-tonsillectomy VAS at 24 hours was 6.73±1.44 SD while in group B it was 5.93±1.26 SD (p-value 0.025). Mean post-tonsillectomy VAS at 48 hours was 5.60±1.25 SD and 4.37±1.03 SD (p-value 0.000) respectively in groups A and B. At 7th post operative day, Mean VAS was noted as 3.27±0.74 SD and 2.30±0.79 SD (p-value 0.000) respectively in group A and B.  Conclusion: Peritonsillar Dexamethasone is more effective than peritonsillar Bupivacaine in controlling post-tonsillectomy pain in children. Statistically significant difference was noted for mean post-tonsillectomy VAS at 1st, 2nd and 7th day. Key Words: Tonsillectomy, visual analogue score, postoperative pain, dexamethasone, bupivacaine

Cloud Based Dedicated Application for Multiple Organizations: Cloud Computing for All Organizations

Desktop applications should be run over the cloud environment. This is the slogan of those organization which are familiar with the cloud computing. Organization's members are not only responsible for smooth running of desktop application but also have a burden of successful running of database server, back & recovery devices, time and cost of human efforts. CBCS (Cloud Based Custom Software) is the solution of such issues. Development companies are responsible for development of CBCS of an organization. Although CBCS is a dedicated service to an organization, but existing CBCS can also dedicate to other organization when development companies will follow the CBDAMO (Cloud Based Dedicated Customized Application for Multiple Organization) technique. This is 6-layer technique which provides a smooth way to development companies for reusing the existing CBCS to new CBCS. Key Words: Cloud Computing, CBCS, DBCS, CBDAMO, Development Companie
