    Impact of Exchange Rate on Stock Returns in Shenzhen Stock Exchange: Analysis Through ARDL Approach

    This research investigates the influence of exchange rate on the stock returns of Shenzhen stock exchange from January 2008 to December 2018 by utilizing ARDL model for checking the short run and the long run association between the study variables.  The estimated ARDL results indicate that exchange rate has a negative and significant influence on the stock returns of Shenzhen stock exchange. Inflation and interest rate results indicate a negative and statistically significant effect on the stock returns. Based on the estimated results of this study it is recommended that the policy makers in Central bank needs to make such policies that helps to stabilize the exchange rate

    A Quantum Key Distribution Network Through Single Mode Optical Fiber

    Quantum key distribution (QKD) has been developed within the last decade that is provably secure against arbitrary computing power, and even against quantum computer attacks. Now there is a strong need of research to exploit this technology in the existing communication networks. In this paper we have presented various experimental results pertaining to QKD like Raw key rate and Quantum bit error rate (QBER). We found these results over 25 km single mode optical fiber. The experimental setup implemented the enhanced version of BB84 QKD protocol. Based upon the results obtained, we have presented a network design which can be implemented for the realization of large scale QKD networks.     Impact Assessment of SPC Tools on Quality Improvement in Pakistani Industrial Environment: A Dynamic Case Study

    Whether one belongs to service or production industry, Quality is always a big issue for business persons and the customers. If we do not have any means of measuring the performance of manufacturing Unit in trouble, how can we improve it? As W. Edwards Deming said “If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it”. Everybody in the field of TQM is familiar with control charts and statistical process improvement for Quality. A number of tools, including the Six Sigma tool box, are made up of seven simple tools: flow chart, check list, histogram, Pareto chart, cause and effect diagram, scatter diagram, control chart. The Japanese call them "seven QC (quality control) tools, which have been used for decades to support quality improvement efforts to solve the problem. Usually variation is the only main reason for varying or low quality of their product/service, increasing dissatisfaction among customers and decreasing business credibility as a result. For that purpose, we chosen a business organization “Silver Lake Foods Pvt. Ltd.” as a study object, as management of SLFL was highly willing to cooperate. SLFL is a Food Manufacturing organization which produces food items like Biscuits, toffees, candies and chocolates, drinks etc. Management of SLFL has found that the process average for critical characteristics i.e. weight, taste etc. were out of control and causing big losses. In some cases, they have some ideas about possible causes. However, in most cases, they do not want or lack of knowledge and resources restrict them to carry out experimental design to find out the reasons for the change or decline quality.We have decided to use statistical process control (SPC) procedures for quality control, quality improvement and then ultimately towards total quality management.There were some ideas about possible causes but, as in most cases, they were reluctant or lacking the knowledge and resources to perform experimental design to find out the causes of variation or the causes of decreased (/ing) quality. We decided to use statistical process control (SPC) program to make the steps towards quality control and from quality control to quality improvement and then ultimately towards TQM. The Proposed study intends to find out impact of SPC tools in Quality improvement in Pakistani Industrial environment by studying Silver Lake Foods Pvt. Ltd. This  research also identify the main  sources of variations and bottlenecks  through dynamic use of SPC tools and  suggest recommendations regarding higher quality improvement and customer satisfaction levels in future.     Experimental assessment of multiple contact wear using airborne noise under dry and lubricated conditions

    The generation of wear and airborne noise is inevitable in the mechanical contacts of the machine components. This paper addresses the effectiveness of the airborne noise data in estimating the wear on a disc under multi-contact conditions. A pin-on-disc rig was employed to study the role of noise parameters on the evolution of the wear area. When a pin slides on the disc, the airborne noise is generated and subsequently a sound signal is obtained. These signals, for various sets of experiments, were recorded using a digital microphone. A Matlab code was developed and employed to estimate the noise parameters from the recorded sound. Noise parameters including values of voltage RMS, noise counts and amplitudes of dominant frequencies were used to analyse the variation in the disc wear at different time intervals. These parameters were found to be effective in the determination of the wear damage evaluation under different loads without lubrication

    Role of early contrast enhanced CT scan in severity prediction of acute pancreatitis

    Abstract Severe pancreatitis occurs in approximately 15-25% of patients with acute pancreatitis. The objective of our study was to compare the CTSeverity Index (CTSI) with a clinical score (BISAP score) to predict severity of acute pancreatitis. Forty-eight consecutive patients with acutepancreatitis who underwent contrast enhanced CT scan within 72 hours of presentation were included. Results of our study showed that both CTSI and BISAP score were reliable predictors of mortality (p value = 0.019 and \u3c0.001 respectively) and need for mechanical ventilation (p value = .002 and .006 respectively). Positive predictive value of CTSI to predict recovery without intervention was 91.4% as compared to 78% for that of BISAP score. Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) Curves showed CT scan was superior to BISAP Score in predicting need of percutaneous or surgical intervention. Early CT scan may be utilized for prediction of clinical course of patients with acute pancreatitis

    Piezoelectric metamaterial with negative and zero Poisson's ratios

    This study presents the finite element–based micromechanical modeling approach to obtain the electromechanical properties of the piezoelectric metamaterial based on honeycomb (HC) cellular networks. The symmetry of the periodic structure was employed to derive mixed boundary conditions (MBCs) analogous to periodic boundary conditions (PBCs). Three classes of hexagonal HC cellular networks, namely, a conventional HC (CHC), a re-entrant HC (RE), and a semi-re-entrant HC (SRE) were considered. The representative volume elements (RVEs) of these three classes of cellular materials were created, and finite element analyses were carried out to analyze the effect of orientation of the ligament on their effective electromechanical properties and their suitability in specific engineering applications. The longitudinally poled piezoelectric HC cellular networks showed an enhanced behavior as compared to the monolithic piezoelectric materials. Moreover, longitudinally poled HC cellular networks demonstrated that, as compared to the bulk constituent, their hydrostatic figure of merit increased and their acoustic impedance decreased by one order of magnitude, respectively, indicating their applicability for the design on hydrophones. Moreover, results showed that cellular metamaterial with tunable electromechanical characteristics and a variety of auxetic behaviors such as negative, positive, or zero Poisson’s ratios could be developed. Such novel HC network-based functional cellular materials are likely to facilitate the design of light-weight devices for various next-generation sensors and actuators

    Thermal Characterization of Purified Glucose Oxidase from A Newly Isolated Aspergillus Niger UAF-1

    An intracellular glucose oxidase was isolated from the mycelium extract of a locally isolated strain of Aspergillus niger UAF-1. The enzyme was purified to a yield of 28.43% and specific activity of 135 U mg−1 through ammonium sulfate precipitation, anion exchange and gel filtration chromatography. The enzyme showed high affinity for D-glucose with a Km value of 2.56 mM. The enzyme exhibited optimum catalytic activity at pH 5.5. Temperature optimum for glucose oxidase, catalyzed D-glucose oxidation was 40°C. The enzyme showed a high thermostability having a half-life 30 min, enthalpy of denaturation 99.66 kJ mol−1 and free energy of denaturation 103.63 kJ mol−1. These characteristics suggest the use of glucose oxidase from Aspergillus niger UAF-1 as an analytical reagent and in the design of biosensors for clinical, biochemical and diagnostic assays
