    A Time Truncated Moving Average Chart for the Weibull Distribution

    A control chart of monitoring the number of failures is proposed with a moving average scheme, when the life of an item follows a Weibull distribution. A specified number of items are put on a time truncated life test and the number of failures is observed. The proposed control chart has been evaluated by the average run lengths (ARLs) under different parameter settings. The control constant and the test time multiplier are to be determined by considering the in-control ARL. It is observed that the proposed control chart is more efficient in detecting a shift in the process as compared with the existing time truncated control chart. ? 2013 IEEE.11Ysciescopu

    Nutritional value of Pleurotus (Flabellatus) Djamor (R-22) cultivated on sawdusts of different woods

    The sawdust of different woods were investigat ed for the cultivation of exotic strain of Pleurotus (flabellatus) djamor (R-22) to find out the efficiency of different nutrients including protein, fat, crude fiber, ash, dry matter and moisture. Among all type of nutrients, protein, fat, cr ude fiber, ash, dry matter and moisture of Pleurotus ostreatus on sawdust of different woods were observed. Protein was observed on cont rol treatment (cotton waste, kikar, mango, mixed sawdust, simbal and kail (21.89), (21.64), (21.34), (21.16), (21.03) and (20.75) % respectively. Fat was observed on control treatment (cotton waste, kikar, mango, mi xed sawdust, simbal and kail (0.80), (0.53), (0 .41), (0.33), (0.24) and (0.11)% respectively. Crude fiber was observed on control treatment (cotton waste, kikar, mango, mixed sawdust, simbal and kail (8.92), (8.45), (8.17), (7.96), (7.70) and (7.32) % respectively. Ash was observ ed on control treatment (cotton waste, kikar, mango, mixed sawdust, simbal and kail (7.65), (6.75), (6 .47), (6.39), (6.33) and (6.23%) respectively. Dry matter was observed on control treatment (cotton waste, kikar, mango, mixed sawdust, simbal and kail (6.47), (6.27), (6.13), (6.01), (5.87) and (5.67) % respectively. Moisture was observed on control treatment (c otton waste, kikar, mango, mixed sawdust, simbal and kail (84.55), (81.20), (79.85), (76.26), (74.35) and (71.14) % respectively. Oyster mushroom showed relatively more contents on control treatment cotton waste as compared to other substrates. The maximum protein, fat, crude fiber, ash, dry matter and moisture contents in Pleurotus (flabellatus) djamor (R-22) was obtained on Kikar sawdust .The lowest contents was obtained on kail sawdust

    Wave-dominated Shoreline Sediments in Early Cretaceous Surajdeval Formation, Saurashtra Basin, Gujarat Western India

    The Early Cretaceous Surajdeval Formation of the Dhrangadhra group consists of the following three major facies: 1) a sand dominated facies (S), characterized by hummocky cross-stratification, planar and trough cross-bedding (Sp, St), and swaley cross stratification (SCS). 2) the hetro lithic facies (H) characterized by shatter red mudstone and fine-to very fine grained sandstone / red siltstone, exhibiting parallel and low-angle cross-laminations including symmetrical and interference ripples 3) sand matrix-supported conglomerate/pebbly facies (Cg-S) displaying an alternation of coarse (50mm), medium to fine (lt10-20 mm) pebbles in successive beds, and couplets of crudely graded conglomerate. nbspnbspnbspnbspnbsp The sedimentary facies and structures of the Surajdeval Formation reflect deposition by wave, and tide dominated events. Parallel-laminated and fine-grained sandstones are deposited in response to decrease incompetency and capacity of the flow. nbspnbspnbspnbspnbsp The conglomerates and couplets with sandstone may be the product of longshore deposits. Mudstone may have accumulated in protected lagoonal environment. Paleocurrent indicators, such as cross-bedding and pebble fabric show orientation toward south-south-west, and north-north-west, and may be attributed to ebb tidal (onshore), and those exhibiting north-north-west orientation to flood tidal/ longshore (off-shore) currents. Thus, the sedimentological features of the Surajdeval Formation suggest that wave tides and storm processes were involved during its deposition

    An investigation into morphological and physiological approaches to screen maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids for drought tolerance

    A pot experiment was carried out in completely randomized design (CRD) having three replications to screen out six maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids viz; FH-810, 32-F-10, FH-782, 32-B-33, YH-1898, Monsanto-6525, R-2315 and R-3304 for drought tolerance. The study was carried out with objective to screen hybrids, when exposed to drought on the early phase of their vegetative growth. The moisture treatments comprised of 100% field capacity (FC), 75% FC and 50% FC. The results exhibited that all these hybrids varied substantially in their stability against drought tolerance. However, the results pertaining to interaction of maize hybrids with three moisture levels of 100% FC, 75% FC and 50% FC revealed that 32-F-10 performed comparatively better in contrast to other maize hybrids in plant height (79.74 cm, 47.02 cm and 41.65 cm), leaf area per plant (865.10 cm2, 405.7 cm2 and 178.60 cm2), relative water contents (81.23%, 69.79% and 65.98%), at 100%, 75% and 50% FC, respectively, while YH-1898 hybrid produced lowest values of these attributes in almost all water levels. However, a better stomatal conductance (gs), photosynthetic rate (A) and transpiration rate (E) were exhibited by 32-F-10 while YH-1898 revealed least gas-exchange values among all hybrids. The experimental results revealed that under drought conditions 32-F-10 performed best than all other maize hybrids and could be used for further investigation to screen out other drought tolerant-maize hybrids for maximum production
