    Use of Aspergillus wentii for biosorption of methylene blue from aqueous solution

    In this study, Aspergillus wentii was used as a biosorbent for the adsorption of methylene blue from aqueous solution. The effects of contact time, initial dye concentration, solution pH and temperature on biosorption were investigated. The contact time required (that is, the equilibrium time) for maximum dye biosorption was found to be 120 min. The amount of the dye biosorbed increased with increasing initial dye concentrations and solution pH, while it was decreasing with an increase in temperature. Percent biosorption was changed between 14.86 and 85.04 under all conditions studied. Desorption studies were performed by changing of the value pH among 3 - 10. Desorption was considerably affected by lower pH. The maximum percentage of desorption was found to be 29.51 at pH 3. Biosorption isotherm from equilibrium values followed Freundlich model

    ERYTHROPOIETIN FOR THE TREATMENT OF SUBARACHNOID HEMORRAGE: A FEASIBLE INGREDIENT FOR A SUCCESS MEDICAL RECIPE

    Subaracnhoid hemorrage (SAH) following aneurysm bleeding accounts for 6% to 8% of all cerebrovascular accidents. Althoug an aneurysm can be effectively managed by surgery or endovascular therapy, delayed cerebral ischemia is diagnosed in a high percentage of patients resulting in significant morbility and mortality. Cerebral vasospasm occurs in more than half of all patients after aneurysm rupture and is recognized as the leading cause of delayed cerebral ischemia after SAH. Hemodynamic strategies and endovascular procedures may be considered fo the treatment of cerebral vasospasm. In recent years, the mechanism contributing to the development of vasospasm, abnormal reactivity of cerebral arteries and cerebral ischemia following SAH, have been intensively investigated. A number of pathological processes have been identified in the pathogenesis of vasospasm including endothelial injury, smooth muscle cell contraction from spasmogenic substances produced by the subarachnoid blood clots, changes in vascular responsiveness and inflammatory response of the vascular endothelium. to date, the current therapeutic interventions remain ineffective being limited to the manipulation os systemic blood pressure, variation of blood volume and viscosity, and control of arterial carbon dioxide tension. In this scenario, the hormone erythropoietin (EPO), has been found to exert neuroprotective action during experimental SAH when its recombinant form (rHuEPO) is systematically administered. However, recent translation of experimental data into clinical trials has suggested an unclear role of recombinant human EPO in the setting of SAH. In this context, the aim of the recurrent review is to present current evidence on the potential role of EPO in cerebrovascular dysfunction following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrage

    Structural characterization and antioxidant properties of Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes derived from dicyandiamide

    New Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes derived from dicyandiamide were synthesized and characterised by spectroscopic and analytical methods. Molecular structures of the complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. In the complexes, the Cu(II) or Ni(II) ions are four-coordinate with a slight distorted square planar geometry. The ligands (L-nPen and L-iPen) derived from dicyandiamide formed via nucleophilic addition of alcohol solvent molecule in the presence Cu(II) or Ni(II) ions. Complexes were stabilised by intricate array of hydrogen bonding interactions. Antioxidant activity of the complexes was evaluated by DPPH radical scavenging and CUPRAC methods. The aim of this study is to characterize thermal comfort properties of single jersey fabrics were knitted using 100% modal yarns which were spun in various types of yarn spinning methods such as ring spinning, compact spinning, rotor spinning and airjet spinning. Thermal comfort properties like air permeability, thermal resistance, thermal absorptivity and water vapour permeability of fabrics were tested.     Resistances of antibiotics and heavy metals in Enterobacteriaceae spp. isolated from gilis and intestines of Achanthobrama marmid (Heckel, 1843 from Sir Dam lake Turkey

    PubMedID: 20112859A total of 94 bacteria, associated with wild Achanthobrama marmid (Heckel, 1843) in Sir Dam lake of Turkey identified. Subsequently, selected isolates were characterized and identified to the genus level. The 94 members of Enterobacteriaceae were isolated in the gills and intestines, and among the isolates, E. coli were represented at a rate of 55%, Shigella spp. at a rate of 21%, Salmonella spp. at a rate of 9%, Citrobacter spp. at a rate of 9%, Klebsiella spp. at a rate of 3% and Proteus spp., at a rate of 3%. A total of 94 bacteria resistant to antibiotics and heavy metals were isolated from total 47 of A. marmid samples and were investigated. Viable counts of antibiotic resistant bacteria isolated from gill and intestinal content samples showed high frequencies of resistance to Penicilline-G (KP) (68%), CZ (54%), FOX (48%), while the proportion of CRO (39%) and CTX (36%) resistance was low. In this research, heavy metal contamination in Sir Dam lake water samples and resistance frequency against heavy metals in isolated bacteria from gill and intestinal contents in A. marmid were investigated. Heavy metal contamination such as nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu) and chromium (Cr) determined diverse rate (except Mn) in water samples. The resistance frequency of the isolates was revealed different rate for the following heavy metals: Ni, Cd, Cu and Cr. When the concentration of heavy metals increased, the resistance against heavy metals in diverse genus of isolates in different rate decreased. © Triveni Enterprises, Lucknow (India)
