CONSUMER ATTITUDES TOWARD ORGANICALLY GROWN LETTUCE
This research shows that approximately 29 percent of lettuce purchases in California expect to purchase an organically grown lettuce product in the future. Organic lettuce purchasers are more likely to be female, have a higher household income and a higher level of education. Consumers are concerned with the freshness, quality, price, and environmental impact of the lettuce they purchase.Consumer/Household Economics,
Robust High-Dynamic-Range Vector Magnetometry via Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers in Diamond
We demonstrate a robust, scale-factor-free vector magnetometer, which uses a
closed-loop frequency-locking scheme to simultaneously track Zeeman-split
resonance pairs of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. Compared with
open-loop methodologies, this technique is robust against fluctuations in
temperature, resonance linewidth, and contrast; offers a
three-order-of-magnitude increase in dynamic range; and allows for simultaneous
interrogation of multiple transition frequencies. By directly detecting the
resonance frequencies of NV centers aligned along each of the diamond's four
tetrahedral crystallographic axes, we perform full vector reconstruction of an
applied magnetic field
A Question of Respect: A Qualitative Text Analysis of the Canadian Parliamentary Committee Hearings on The Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act
We evaluate the Canadian parliamentary hearings on The Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act to determine whether respectful and fair deliberation occurred. Our focus is on the content, tone, and nature of each question posed by committee members in hearings in both chambers. We find that, on the whole, the vast majority of questions met this baseline, but that committee members were biased toward witnesses in agreement with their position and against witnesses in opposition to it. In addition to our substantive findings, we contribute methodological insights, including a coding scheme, for this kind of qualitative text analysis
Rhys Matters: New Critical Perspectives
Nicole Flynn is a contributing author, Clockwork Women: Termporality and Form in Jean Rhys\u27s Interwar Novels. , pp.41-65.
Rhys Matters, the first collection of essays focusing on Rhys\u27s writing in over twenty years, encounters her oeuvre from multiple disciplinary perspectives and appreciates the interventions in modernism, postcolonial studies, Caribbean studies, and women\u27s and gender studies.https://openprairie.sdstate.edu/english_book/1011/thumbnail.jp
Synthetic, Structural and Computational Studies on Heavier Tetragen and Chalcogen Triazenide Complexes
The syntheses of the triazenide complexes [{N(N Dipp) 2} 2M] (Dipp = 2,6-di-isopropylphenyl; M = Ge(II) (1), Sn(II) (2), Pb(II) (3), and Te(II) (5)) are described for the first time. These compounds have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy. Density functional theory calculations were employed to confirm the presence and nature of the stereochemically active lone pairs in 1-5, alongside the Gibbs energy changes for their general synthesis, which enable the rationalization of observed reactivities. </p
Directly pumped 10  GHz microcomb modules from low-power diode lasers
Soliton microcombs offer the prospect of advanced optical metrology and timing systems in compact form factors. In these applications, the pumping of microcombs directly from a semiconductor laser without amplification or triggering components is desirable to reduce system power and to simplify system design. At the same time, low-repetition-rate microcombs are required in many comb applications as an interface to detectors and electronics, but their increased mode volume makes them challenging to pump at low power. Here 10 GHz repetition rate soliton microcombs are directly pumped by low-power (<20  mW) diode lasers. High-Q silica microresonators are used for this low-power operation and are packaged into fiber-connectorized modules that feature temperature control for improved long-term frequency stability
