The purpose of this thesis was to examine the reasons why guests select and return to Las Vegas hotel/casino properties. The study intended to investigate the importance of the host relationship in the guests\u27 reasons for selection and return to a particular property; Current marketing research indicates that customer retention is directly related to satisfaction and individualized service experiences. For this reason, research topics were identified as relationship marketing, customer satisfaction versus retention, and loyalty management. Findings suggest that guests with hosts and guests without hosts tend to be comprised of the same demographic group. Casino guests with hosts demonstrated longer hours spent gambling per day; larger average wagers; and a tendency to play table games rather than slot machines. Finally, the importance of the host relationship was determined as low

Opening the Door to Student Wellness: An access services lead collaborative effort to help students

    Get PDF
Returning after the pandemic, students wellness and mental health is at the forefront of all campus services. After an internal DEI audit, the library realized there were populations that were missing our services, resources, and space. This is a mutual effort that takes the findings of the DEI audit and combines them with the organic efforts of the library’s Access Services department to plan for wellness related services, activities, and information for our population. This presentation will highlight those efforts and showcase how the access services staff and the librarians were able to create a cohesive plan to increase programming for student wellness and information dissemination to marginalized populations. We will discuss our planning process, the budget, programming, working with administrators, data collected, as well as our continuing plans for assessment. This effort includes collaborations with multiple departments across the campus and we will discuss how we leverage these relationships to help our students. The effort to improve student wellness is mirrored by the department’s efforts to increase their own wellness awareness and efforts. The library has made a concerted effort to increase their visibility at campus events not directly connected to academics (pride events, open houses, accepted students day). The Access Services Team has focused on attending training (both provided locally by the university and through national conferences and webinars) to educate themselves to better serve our student population. The presentation will highlight some of the trainings and campus events the library attends. The Access Services team provides an incalculable resource to our students as the first presence they see when they walk in our buildings. The accessible and friendly environment they cultivate sets the tone for the library. Having an eager, educated, and attentive access services staff with a focus on wellness and mental health provides a welcoming environment. We are excited to share our experience and expertise with those who want to increase student wellness and access to resources to help with their mental health

A STUDY OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF UNIVERSITY READING SPECIALIST CANDIDATES: INDIVIDUAL AND PROGRAMMATIC DIMENSIONS AND THEIR CORRELATES TO SCORES ON THE PRAXIS AND OTHER OUTCOME MEASURES

The purpose of this exploratory study was to determine which dimensions of teacher preparation contribute to creating effective reading specialists. These dimensions include educational factors, such as certification (Darling-Hammond, 1999), educational experience which points to teacher quality (Ferguson, 1991) and demographic factors such as age, type of teacher preparation program—four year, five year, or Master of Arts in Teaching. Participants were the reading specialist candidates during the 2002-2003 school year at a metropolitan university. This study used reading specialist candidates' Grade Point Average, Praxis test scores, teaching experience, class performance rating, and performance rating in the field to examine what background, characteristics, and instruction contribute to the preparation of effective reading specialists. Analyses of data showed that teaching experience, age of candidate, and Praxis certification tests correlated with the outcome measures of coursework, performance rating, and Praxis reading specialist scores. Interviews of reading specialist candidates provided in-depth understanding of how candidates viewed the program. Results of the study contribute to a better understanding of the individual dimensions of the reading specialist candidate. This understanding, in turn, provides further information for the improvement and evaluation of the program, and adds to research about the preparation of reading specialists

Agricultural research for nutrition outcomes – rethinking the agenda

    Get PDF
Agriculture and food are assumed to be critical determinants of stunting and micronutrient deficiency. However, agriculture research for development has not translated as expected into better nutrition outcomes. We argue that to do so, agriculture research needs to be fundamentally changed, from the current emphasis on supply-side production and productivity goals to understanding consumption and addressing factors that can improve diet quality. Some of the research will be to improve the efficiency of supply for more nutritious foods. Other research will need to focus on factors that promote diet quality rather than focus on food security goals through stocks of staple cereals. Because of its importance in low-income, high-burden countries, agriculture can also contribute more effectively to multisectoral nutrition-sensitive development strategies and programs. Critical roles for agricultural research in multisectoral actions will be better metrics, indicators and research studies for diet quality and better evaluation methods – both randomized trials for specific interventions and contribution analysis through theories of change for more complex multisectoral system interventions to prevent stunting and micronutrient deficiencies. To achieve improvements in nutrition outcomes at scale, researchers must engage in new partnerships. In food systems, these partnerships must include more disciplines from agriculture and food science through economics and social science to business and delivery science. Food system researchers will also need to engage more with value chain actors and policy makers. Current efforts to improve nutrition outcomes at scale are severely hampered by data and evidence gaps that prevent better decisions and faster learning

Modèles socio-écologiques : renforcement de la recherche interventionnelle dans le contrôle du tabac

    Get PDF
Some aspects of the tobacco control field have been informed by a broader conceptualization of the complex factors that determine population health. Tobacco control programs increasingly include multi-level interventions and policy changes to influence context. Further, socioecological concepts (e.g., strategies targeting intrapersonal, interpersonal and socioenvironmental interactions) are implicit in many comprehensive tobacco reduction policies. In contrast, tobacco intervention research lags behind this progression, with individual level strategies continuing to dominate the research agenda. New research methods are suggested to strengthen intervention research in tobacco prevention and cessation. Developmental transitions are briefly explored to consider the impact of developmental vulnerability and resiliency on youth tobacco use, providing an expanded focus and new opportunities for intervention research.
