Mode structure and ray dynamics of a parabolic dome microcavity
We consider the wave and ray dynamics of the electromagnetic field in a
parabolic dome microcavity. The structure of the fundamental s-wave involves a
main lobe in which the electromagnetic field is confined around the focal point
in an effective volume of the order of a cubic wavelength, while the modes with
finite angular momentum have a structure that avoids the focal area and have
correspondingly larger effective volume. The ray dynamics indicates that the
fundamental s-wave is robust with respect to small geometrical deformations of
the cavity, while the higher order modes are associated with ray chaos and
short-lived. We discuss the incidence of these results on the modification of
the spontaneous emission dynamics of an emitter placed in such a parabolic dome

This report describes the project aims, contents and contributors in the production of a book focusing on Africentric approaches in research and scholarly work. The 22 chapters exemplify the uniqueness of psychological processes related to cognition, perception, emotion, religion, language, parenting, and health practices. The significance of cross-cultural psychology as a methodological approach is to explore diversity not deficits. Western knowledge systems and research approaches should serve as a guide, rather than a determinant of what and how research is conducted with Africans. African researchers, Graduate Students and Young Scholars face incredible challenges in the research and publication environments
Poor screening and nonadiabatic superconductivity in correlated systems
In this paper we investigate the role of the electronic correlation on the
hole doping dependence of electron-phonon and superconducting properties of
cuprates. We introduce a simple analytical expression for the one-particle
Green's function in the presence of electronic correlation and we evaluate the
reduction of the screening properties as the electronic correlation increases
by approaching half-filling. The poor screening properties play an important
role within the context of the nonadiabatic theory of superconductivity. We
show that a consistent inclusion of the reduced screening properties in the
nonadiabatic theory can account in a natural way for the - phase

Inpatient Transition to Virtual Care During COVID-19 Pandemic
Introduction: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, novel approaches to diabetes care have been employed. Care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting has transformed considerably. Driven by the need to reduce the use of personal protective equipment and exposure for patients and providers alike, we transitioned inpatient diabetes management services to largely "virtual" or remotely provided care at our hospital. Methods: Implementation of a diabetes co-management service under the direction of the University of North Carolina division of endocrinology was initiated in July 2019. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the diabetes service was largely transitioned to a virtual care model in March 2020. Automatic consults for COVID-19 patients were implemented. Glycemic outcomes from before and after transition to virtual care were evaluated. Results: Data over a 15-week period suggest that using virtual care for diabetes management in the hospital is feasible and can provide similar outcomes to traditional face-to-face care. Conclusion: Automatic consults for COVID-19 patients ensure that patients with serious illness receive specialized diabetes care. Transitioning to virtual care models does not limit the glycemic outcomes of inpatient diabetes care and should be employed to reduce patient and provider exposure in the setting of COVID-19. These findings may have implications for reducing nosocomial infection in less challenging times and might address shortage of health care providers, especially in the remote areas
Exotic Heavy Fermion State in the Filled Skutterudite PrFeP Uncovered by the de Haas-van Alphen Effect
We report the de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) experiment on the filled skutterudite
PrFeP exhibiting apparent Kondo-like behaviors in the transport and
thermal properties. We have found enormously enhanced cyclotron effective mass
in the high field phase (HFP), which
indicates that PrFeP is the first Pr-compound in which really heavy
mass has been unambiguously confirmed. Also in the low field non-magnetic
ordered phase (LOP), we observed the dHvA branch with that is quite heavy taking into account its small Fermi surface volume
(0.15% of the Brillouin zone size). The insensitivity of mass in LOP against
the magnetic field suggests that the quadrupolar interaction plays a main role

Two Photon Radiation in W and Z Boson Production at the Tevatron Collider
We present a calculation of two photon radiation in W and Z boson production
in hadronic collisions, based on the complete matrix elements for the processes
q\bar q'\to\ell^\pm\nu\gamma\gamma and q\bar q\to\ell^+\ell^-\gamma\gamma,
including finite charged lepton masses. In order to achieve stable numerical
results over the full phase space, multiconfiguration Monte Carlo techniques
are used to map the peaks in the differential cross section. Numerical results
are presented for the Fermilab Tevatron.Comment: Revtex, 28 pages, 3 figure
Muon-spin rotation and magnetization studies of chemical and hydrostatic pressure effects in EuFe_{2}(As_{1-x}P_{x})_{2}
The magnetic phase diagram of EuFe(AsP) was
investigated by means of magnetization and muon-spin rotation studies as a
function of chemical (isovalent substitution of As by P) and hydrostatic
pressure. The magnetic phase diagrams of the magnetic ordering of the Eu and Fe
spins with respect to P content and hydrostatic pressure are determined and
discussed. The present investigations reveal that the magnetic coupling between
the Eu and the Fe sublattices strongly depends on chemical and hydrostatic
pressure. It is found that chemical and hydrostatic pressure have a similar
effect on the Eu and Fe magnetic order.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure
Anomalous heavy-fermion and ordered states in the filled skutterudite PrFe4P12
Specific heat and magnetization measurements have been performed on
high-quality single crystals of filled-skutterudite PrFe_4P_{12} in order to
study the high-field heavy-fermion state (HFS) and low-field ordered state
(ODS). From a broad hump observed in C/T vs T in HFS for magnetic fields
applied along the direction, the Kondo temperature of ~ 9 K and the
existence of ferromagnetic Pr-Pr interactions are deduced. The {141}-Pr nuclear
Schottky contribution, which works as a highly-sensitive on-site probe for the
Pr magnetic moment, sets an upper bound for the ordered moment as ~ 0.03
\mu_B/Pr-ion. This fact strongly indicates that the primary order parameter in
the ODS is nonmagnetic and most probably of quadrupolar origin, combined with
other experimental facts. Significantly suppressed heavy-fermion behavior in
the ODS suggests a possibility that the quadrupolar degrees of freedom is
essential for the heavy quasiparticle band formation in the HFS. Possible
crystalline-electric-field level schemes estimated from the anisotropy in the
