The Influences of Various Vitamins on the Megakaryocytes in Bone-Marrow Tissue Culture Part 2. The Effect of Vitamin C on the Function of the Bone Marrow Megakaryocyte in Normal Persons and in Hypoplastic Anemia

With a view to clarify the hemostatic mechanism of vitamin C the author conducted the bone marrow tissue culture of normal persons and observed the effect of direct addition of vitamin C on the megakaryocyte function; and also studied the co-operative action of vitamin C and folic acid or B(12) when added in such combinations on the same function of megakaryocytes. Next, by adding a large quantity of vitamin C to the bone marrow tissue culture of hypoplastic anemia the author pursued the fluctuation in the thrombocyte count and the change in the megakaryocyte function. The results are as follows: 1. The megakaryocyte function was markedly increased by the addition of vitamin C 0.01 mg/c.c. 2. In the case of addition of vitamin C and folic acid or B(12) combined, the effect on the megakaryocyte function was rather less than when each of these substances was added singly, thus showing no co-operative action between these substances. 3. When vitamin C 1,000 mg was daily injected continuously to the patients with hypoplastic anemia, in two out of the five patients the thrombocyte count markedly increased and the megakaryocyte function was also strikingly enhanced

Self-Consistent Dual Unitarization Scheme with Several Trajectories

In the self-consistent dual unitarization model with several input Regge trajectories we prove that: i) the intercept of output Pomeron pole is exactly equal to one, i. e. α_P(0)=1, ii) equal spacing rules hold for the intercepts of the Regge trajectories, i. e. [numerical formula], [numerical formula], [numerical formula], iii) SU(4) symmetric coupling constant g^2 satisfies the relation [numerical formula]. The proof for these consequences is given by allowing in the loops of the unitarity sum all the possible Regge trajectories and assuming exact SU(4) symmetry for the Reggeon coupling constants, while broken SU(4) symmetry for the intercepts of the Regge trajectories. The positions of the daughter trajectories for the Pomeron and the Regge trajectories are also discussed numerically

AbstractBackground/purposed-Glucosamine hydrochloride (DGL) has a variety of biological activities and is noted as a nutritional supplement that is effective for improvement and care of various disorders, such as osteoarthritis and atherosclerosis. Although, it has been reported that DGL has a significant pain relief effect in treating osteoarthritis, little is known about its effect on dental pain. The applicability of DGL as a medicament to control pain in pulpalgia has not been reported. In this study, using an in vitro rat mandible-inferior alveolar nerve preparation (jaw-nerve preparation), the effect of DGL on nociceptive responses in the tooth pulpal nerve was examined.Materials and methodsThe effect of DGL on nociceptive responses for 20 male Wistar albino rats was evaluated using an in vitro jaw-nerve preparation. Bradykinin (BK), used as a chemical nociceptive stimulant, was applied near the exposed tooth pulp. Sixty seconds after BK application, the surface of the exposed pulp was treated with DGL solution or physiological saline (control).ResultsThe nerve firing rate was 2.06±0.21Hz (n=10) after 5 minutes of saline application, and 0.76±0.16Hz (n=10) after 5 minutes of DGL application. The DGL group showed significantly lower nerve firing rate than the control group.ConclusionBK-induced nociceptive responses were significantly suppressed by direct application of DGL. Our results suggest that DGL might have a pain relief effect in dental pain

Path Integral for Space-time Noncommutative Field Theory

The path integral for space-time noncommutative theory is formulated by means of Schwinger's action principle which is based on the equations of motion and a suitable ansatz of asymptotic conditions. The resulting path integral has essentially the same physical basis as the Yang-Feldman formulation. It is first shown that higher derivative theories are neatly dealt with by the path integral formulation, and the underlying canonical structure is recovered by the Bjorken-Johnson-Low (BJL) prescription from correlation functions defined by the path integral. A simple theory which is non-local in time is then analyzed for an illustration of the complications related to quantization, unitarity and positive energy conditions. From the view point of BJL prescription, the naive quantization in the interaction picture is justified for space-time noncommutative theory but not for the simple theory non-local in time. We finally show that the perturbative unitarity and the positive energy condition, in the sense that only the positive energy flows in the positive time direction for any fixed time-slice in space-time, are not simultaneously satisfied for space-time noncommutative theory by the known methods of quantization.Comment: 21 page

    Extreme plurisubharmonic singularities

A plurisubharmonic singularity is extreme if it cannot be represented as the sum of non-homothetic singularities. A complete characterization of such singularities is given for the case of homogeneous singularities (in particular, those determined by generic holomorphic mappings) in terms of decomposability of certain convex sets in \Rn. Another class of extreme singularities is presented by means of a notion of relative type.Comment: 10 pages; final form, to appear in Ann. Polon. Mat

Effect of Ambient Pressure on Equilibrium Moisture Content of Wood

    Get PDF
The equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of Russian larch wood, Sugi wood, and Hinoki wood was measured under vacuum conditions at temperatures of 45, 50, and 60°C and ambient pressures of 13.3, 53.3, and 101.3 kPa. The results show that the EMC of each species increased with a decrease in ambient pressure. The effect of temperature and RH on EMC under vacuum conditions showed a similar tendency. Wet-bulb temperature needed to be controlled to measure EMC, even under vacuum, because pressure was not maintained only by water vapor pressure because of the presence of air in the vessel. There were obvious differences between the EMC values obtained in this experiment and previous experimental EMC values in which the wet-bulb temperature was not controlled
