Levels of erythrocyte superoxide dismutase activity in Japanese people
Levels of erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) activitiy in a sample of Japanese people were determined. Blood samples were taken from new-born infants, preschool children, young and old people who had no apparent diseases and also from three anemic patients. Erythrocyte SOD activities in different age groups had a nearly normal distribution. Females had slightly lower activities than males, although the difference was statistically insignificant. The distributions of SOD activities were 12.6 +/- 2.7 (m +/- SD) unit/mg Hb in young people and 11.4 +/- 3.0 in old people, indicating that erythrocyte SOD activity falls with aging. Because of low concentration of hemoglobin, SOD activities of old people expressed as unit/ml blood were much lower than in young people. Three anemic patients had slightly lower SOD activity. </p

This paper examined a Japanese language teacher education program through a case-study analysis of descriptions of teaching practice over the past decade to identify chal-lenges and methods of improvement. The author has been involved in a Japanese language teacher education program at Mukogawa womenÊŒs university as a program coordinator and in a teaching practice program at language schools in Osaka and at a sister university in Korea. The program in this study experienced some restructuring for various reasons. The author analyzed these reasons by classifying them according to external and internal factors. The external factors were mostly influenced by curriculum restructuring; deference to the academic calendar; job-hunting trends; and nationwide risks including political issues, natural disas-ters, infections, etc. In order to continue teaching practice, program coordinators had to overcome these challenges. Observation revealed that the program has been restructured whenever it met with external obstacles from time to time. Internal factors, however, were hardly discussed. Internal factors included teachersÊŒ academic abilities, teaching skills, and their art of reflection. One of the ways to improve the program would be that trainees design their own program by themselves. The key would be to deploy the âreadiness to learnâ concept referred to by andragogy studies

èŠã§ãããThis paper examines weblog practice to describe the process of developing âNihongo de Care-naviâ, an internet data-base site, through different voices and multifaceted narratives to evaluatethe project. The weblog is an experimental practice as a report or record of the project with regardto the media, style and multi-voiced description of episodes. This, however, plays a significant rolein project evaluation. The author elaborates the following points as findings of this practice: 1) âNihongo de care-naviâ clearly reflects and is influenced by the daily life of teachers, concerning language learners and project management, etc. 2) In member entries, we can find the core components of the project, such as problems, aims and desires for the project. 3) In a general sense, it is necessary to recognize the function of such weblogs in the workplace. The process of description in the ongoing project is an important method for its evaluation

The findings are elaborated as follows:Elective subjects should be offered to promote learning by giving learners the opportunity to manage their learning. Arrange subjects to reduce learner load. Conduct learning activities that make use of the specific backgrounds of learners. Provide profession-related activities such as âpracticeâ in a more authentic field and support learners.Authors also refer to the importance of longitudinal and continuous studies on diversified educational practices. It is possible to foster teacherâs professional ability, such as prompt judgment in daily situation, through reflecting oneâs work place
