    Wireless communication with mobile inspection robots while submerged inside oil storage tanks

    Data acquisition during storage tank inspection is one of the most important aspects for petrochemical storage tank owners. Mobile inspection robots designed to enter inside a storage tank without taking the tank out of service are required to enter through manholes on the roof of the tank with openings as small as 300-millimetre diameter. These robots are controlled via an umbilical cable which supplies power to the robot, sends and receives signals to control robot motion, and transfers inspection data acquired by non-destructive testing (NDT) sensors back to NDT inspectors. It is important to localize a robot inside the tank so that NDT data indicating a defect such as corrosion pitting in tank floors or weld cracks can be mapped for subsequent monitoring and repair. Wireless communication with the robot for NDT data acquisition and localization would enable the minimization of umbilical size and its effective management which is important when a small mobile robot is supplied with a very long umbilical. This paper presents results of a study to develop a wireless communication system that uses radio frequency (RF) signals with low power (<1W) sent by a transceiver on a robot operating inside an oil storage tank which travel through an oil medium, are transmitted through steel tank walls and are captured by receivers placed in air outside the tank. Simulations using Feko software have been performed to assess the feasibility of using RF for communication in oil storage tanks with laboratory experiments conducted using vegetable oil to validate the simulations. RF signals transmitted by a robot operating inside an oil tank and received by a number of receivers placed in air around the tank has potential application as a robot localization system

    Multispeciality Approach in the Management of Patient with Hereditary Gingival Fibromatosis: 1-Year Followup: A Case Report

    Background. Hereditary gingival fibromatosis is a fibrotic enlargement of the gingiva. It may exist as an isolated abnormality or as part of multisystem syndrome. This paper reports a case of 16-year-old male with generalized severe gingival overgrowth, involving the maxillary and mandibular arches and covering almost all teeth. Methods. Periodontal management of gingival enlargement included gingivectomy in both arches except in the lower right molar region where flap surgery was done under general anesthesia. After a 2-month followup period, orthodontic treatment was started with fixed appliances. Monthly periodontal checkups and maintainance (scaling and polishing) were scheduled to control the gingival inflammation. Results. Reevaluation of the patient of surgical treatment after two months did not show any recurrence of condition; however, minimal overgrowth was noted 1 month after the beginning of orthodontic treatment which was treated nonsurgically. Conclusions. Although the risk of recurrence is high with this condition, surgical treatment with correction of malocclusion and regular followup can provide excellent outcome as seen in this case

    Construction of the free energy landscape by the density functional theory

    On the basis of the density functional theory, we give a clear definition of the free energy landscape. To show the usefulness of the definition, we construct the free energy landscape for rearrangement of atoms in an FCC crystal of hard spheres. In this description, the cooperatively rearranging region (CRR) is clealy related to the hard spheres involved in the saddle between two adjacent basins. A new concept of the simultaneously rearranging region (SRR) emerges naturally as spheres defined by the difference between two adjacent basins.     DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS OF PHONOLOGICAL ASPECTS AMONG HINDI-SPEAKING CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABLITY

    Phonology refers to the speech sound systems of a language. The term ‘phonemic’ refers to speech sound use. Most of the previous research reveals that phonological skills develop with age and thus older children had more accurate speech and fewer error patterns in their speech. The present study aimed to obtain extensive phonological data among in Hindi-speaking typically developing children across age-matched children with intellectual disability. The results revealed that phonology develops significantly with the age. Thus, older children had more accurate production and fewer error patterns in their speech relative to younger group. Also, typically developing children had a better control over their phonological aspects compared to children with intellectual disability.  A comparison with related studies has been discussed clearly in the paper which reveals a number of studies supporting the finding. The present study has significant implications for assessment of developmental speech disorders among Hindi-speaking Indian population.

    G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are among the most diverse and ubiquitous proteins in all of biology. The epidermal growth factor-seven span transmembrane (EGF-TM7) subfamily of adhesion GPCRs is a small subset whose members are mainly expressed on the surface of leukocytes. The EGF domains on the N-terminus add significant size to these receptors and they are considered to be among the largest members of the TM7 family. Although not all of their ligands or downstream targets have been identified, there is evidence implicating the EGF-TM7 family diverse processes such as cell adhesion, migration, inflammation, and autoimmune disease. Recent studies have identified expression of EGF-TM7 family members on human neoplasms including those of the thyroid, stomach, colon, and brain. Their presence on these tissues is not surprising given the ubiquity of GPCRs, but because their functional significance and pathways are not completely understood, they are of tremendous clinical and scientific interest. Current evidence suggests that expression of certain EGF-TM7 receptors is correlated with tumor grade, confers a more invasive phenotype, and increases the likelihood of metastatic disease. In this review, we will discuss the structure, function, and regulation of these receptors. We also describe the expression of these receptors in human cancers and explore their potential mechanistic significance

    Energy efficient global optimisation of reactive dividing wall distillation column

The final version is avialable from Taylor & Francis via the DOI in this recordAn optimisation problem to minimise energy requirements in the synthesis of bio-additive ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) via reactive dividing wall distillation column (RDWC) is considered. The contribution of the article is to solve a real-world optimisation problem by addressing two challenges: (i) finding optimal process conditions in few numbers of simulations and (ii) handling mixed-integer variables. An efficient global optimisation algorithm is used to find optimal process conditions and adapted to handle both integer and continuous variables. ETBE is produced by the reaction of ethanol and isobutene in RDWC and has proven its niche in reducing the energy requirements for reaction–separation processes. However, the overall economics of the process is governed by the energy requirements. Therefore, it is crucial to find the optimal process conditions for achieving a cost-effective process. Reboiler duty of RDWC, considered as a measure of the energy requirements to be minimised by using the algorithm. Seven variables (four integers and three continuous) are used in the optimisation process to minimise the reboiler duty. A very low value of reboiler duty is obtained after doing the optimisation, which not only provides insight when using RDWC but also shows the potential of the algorithm used.Natural Environment Research Council (NERC

    Creating variability through interspecific hybridization and its utilization for genetic improvement in mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek]

    Interspecific hybridization is important for genetic enhancement of crop plants. The present study was conducted to study genetic variation in advanced interspecific lines of mungbean for yield and its component traits, to determine the association among different traits and their contribution towards seed yield through correlation and path coefficient analysis. A set of 64 genotypes including 51 advanced interspecific lines derived from mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) × urdbean (Vigna mungo L. Hepper) and mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) × ricebean (Vignaumbellata Thumb.) crosses and 13 parents (mungbean, urdbean and ricebean) was the experimental material for this study. The mean sums of squares for genotypes were highly significant for all the traits. Mean sum of squares for replications were also highly significant for all traits except days to 50 % flowering, days to maturity and harvest index at 1 % and 5 % level of significance. This indicated substantial magnitude of diversity and variability in the interspecific lines and parents under study, which could be further exploited. High to moderate PCV and GCV along with high heritability and genetic advance was observed for biological yield per plant, seed yield per plant and plant height, indicating that these traits could be easy targets for phenotypic selection and consequently, may be improved genetically via simple plant selection methods. On the basis of correlation studies, it could be concluded that all the traits under investigation except number of seeds per pod and harvest index were important for selection for yield improvement. Path analysis further revealed that harvest index could also be one of the criteria of selection for higher yield in these interspecific lines

    In vitro study of baseline sensitivity of important fungi against different fungicides

    Baseline sensitivity values of important phytopathogenic fungi were studied against fungicides. ED50, ED90 and MIC value of propiconazole for, Colletotrichum capsici, and Gloeosporium ampelophagum was in the range of 0.020-0.04 ?g/ml. ED50 values of tebuconazole for Alternaria alternata was 30.0 ?g/ml. Azoxystrobin was also tested for its ED50, ED90 and MIC values against Alternaria alternata, C. capsici, G. ampelophagum and Botrytis cinerea where the values were in the range of 0.019-50.0, 0.03-60.0 and 0.2-100.0 ?g/ml respectively.
