Travel of the center of pressure of airfoils transversely to the air stream

The experiments here described were performed for the purpose of obtaining the essential facts concerning the distribution of the air force along the span. We did not follow, however, the time-consuming method of point-to-point measurements of the pressure distribution on the wing surfaces, but determined directly the moment of mean force about an axis passing through the middle of the span parallel to the direction of flight

Deflection of Propeller Blades While Running

The forces acting on the blades of a propeller proceed from the mass of the propeller and the resistance of the surrounding medium. The magnitude, direction and point of application of the resultant to the propeller blade is of prime importance for the strength calculation. Since it was obviously impracticable to bring any kind of testing device near the revolving propeller, not so much on account of the element of danger as on account of the resulting considerable disturbance of the air flow, the deflection in both cases was photographically recorded and subsequently measured at leisure

Wings with Nozzle-Shaped Slots

Even before the publication of the results of the Gottingen experiments on the removal of the boundary layer by suction, experiments with nozzle-slotted wings were begun. A report of those experiments will be given here. Taken collectively, the experiments show that, as regards increasing the lift values, the effect of the air flowing from the nozzle-shaped slots is similar to the effect produced in the case of ordinary slotted wings. The high lift values are attained, however, at the smaller angles of attack employed in ordinary flight

Effect of periodic changes of angle of attack on behavior of airfoils

This report presents the results of a series of experiments, which gave some quantitative results on the effect of periodic changes in the direction of the relative air flow against airfoils. The first series of experiments concerned how the angle of attack of the wing model was changed by causing the latter to oscillate about an axis parallel to the span and at right angles to the air flow. The second series embraced all the experiments in which the direction of the air flow itself was periodically changed

Produktion sowie Nutzung von Forschungsdaten und das Datenmanagement Forschender: eine empirische Analyse

Hochschulbibliotheken oder andere forschungsunterstützende Serviceabteilungen, die sich mit Forschungsdatenmanagement befassen, verfügen häufig nicht über umfassende Informationen darüber, welche Arten von Forschungsdaten an der jeweiligen Hochschule gesammelt, verwendet, produziert und verbreitet werden. Ein umfassender Überblick über die Forschungsdatenlandschaft ist Voraussetzung für die strategische Planung und Entwicklung geeigneter, lokal angepasster Serviceleistungen. Diese Fallstudie beschreibt die Erhebung der Produktion und Verwendung von Forschungsdaten an der WU Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien und darauf aufbauend die Etablierung und Koordination des Forschungsdatenmanagements durch die Universitätsbibliothek. Die Studie führte einerseits zu interessanten und für die Serviceentwicklung relevanten Ergebnissen. Andererseits wurde die hierbei verwendete Herangehensweise in ein Vorgehensmodell überführt, das auch an anderen wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen anwendbar erscheint.University libraries or other service departments involved in research data management often do not have comprehensive information about what types of research data are collected, used, produced and disseminated within the institution concerned. A comprehensive overview of the research data landscape is a prerequisite for the strategic planning and development of suitable, locally adapted services. This case study describes the survey of the production and use of research data at the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business and, based on this, the establishment and coordination of research data management by the university library. On the one hand, the study led to interesting results relevant to service development.
