    In December, 1983 about 2,000 numbers of seed of Penaeus japonicus (average size: 42.2 mm) collected from wild were stocked in a 0.4 ha pond (No. A-4) at the Mariculture Farm, Muttukadu, Madras. All the males were mature, as the white mass was seen at the base of fifth walking legs. In the case of females, all the specimens were found to have developing ovaries, when they were seen against the light. Earlier records of maturing/matured penaeid prawns of India in low saline waters include Metapenaeus dobsoni from open backwaters of Cochin and perennial culture fields of Vypeen Islands, Kerala and Metapenaeus moyebi from Pulicat Lake on the Madras coast. The present observation enlists Penaeus japonicus with those prawns attaining maturity in low saline waters, or to say precisely in confined waters

    The drilling is an imperative machining practice in the mechanical field for fitting or cutting the materials devoid of any disturbance. Various elements are basically employed within the automobile applications on account of the light weight, exceptional firmness and the moderate cheapness. The effectiveness of the drilled opening for the material shields is expanded by minimizing the eccentricity factor. The eccentricity is a degree of the nature of a drilled hole, and the process is based on input parameters. The significant intention of the suggested procedure is to built a mathematical modeling├В┬а├В┬а with the support ├В┬аof the optimization techniques. The mathematical modeling is done by minimizing the time consumed in the case of extension of the real time experiment. It is utilized to predict the diameter of the drill whole entry and exit, material removal rate and the eccentricity factor for the drilling process. Different optimization algorithms are utilized to find the optimal weights ├О┬▒ and ├О┬▓ of the mathematical modeling. All the optimum results demonstrate that the attained error values between the output of the experimental values and the predicted values are near equal to zero in the designed model. From the results, the minimum error 97.2% is determined by the mathematical modeling attained in the Artificial Fish Swarm Optimization (AFSO) process

    я╗┐INTRODUCTION and Daniel (1971), no information is available on the abundance and exploitation of commercially important The average annual crab landings during 1975-1981 from the Indian coast are 21,310 tonnes, forming species from these Islands. 10.4 % of the total crustacean landings. Rao et al. (1973) have estimated the total crab resources of the Indian seas at 43,000 tonnes, and nearly half of the estimated OBSERVATIONS resources are at present being exploited. Out of 8 species of edible crabs listed by Rao et al. (1973), Scylla serrata (Forsskal), Portmus pelagicus (Linnaeus) and P. sangutnolentus (Herbst) have been the principal species in the exploited fishery along the coasts of the country. Except for the faunistic records of these edible crabs from Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Alcock (1899), Chopra (1935), Sankarankutty (1961) and Premkumar Data on the type of gear employed, species of crab exploited, estimated catch on the day of observation an catch trend in earlier period were collected during th present survey carried out in January-April 1978 Fig. 1 gives the characters for identification of the loca species of crabs.     The medicinal plants have received more attention among researchers to treat various diseases and disorders. This study was aimed to record the various medicinal plants present in Thudaripettai Village situated in Tharangambadi Taluk, Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. A total of 60 plant species belonging to 35 families were reported with their medicinal values. These results will provide information about medicinal plants and methods of utilization of these plants to cure various diseases of mankind. Survey of the information of medicinal plants used by the villagers were collected and arranged alphabetically followed by common name, vernacular name, family name, parts of use, methods of uses, medicinal uses and their habit. The information is very much useful for further research which will lead to the discovery of new bioactive compounds from the above medicinal plants
