DSC serum profiles of sportsmen

The blood serum of young athletes has been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method. The component peaks of complex endothermic transition corresponding to serum denaturation may be correlated with the main protein fractions of serum: albumin, alpha-1, alpha-2, beta- and gamma-globulins. The averaged shape of thermal transition observed for serum of sportsmen participating in our pilot study differs from that reported previously for healthy subjects. One of the reason for the difference may be the lower than normal value of albumins to globulins ratio found for individuals in our group of athletes. Modifications of serum DSC transition due to the exercise test and 1 and 2 h rest have been observed. Statistically based conclusions are not currently possible because of the low number of participants in the study. The averaged responses to the effort and to the rest have been shown clearly different for athletes classified as the best and typical. The first moment of the transition with respect to the temperature axis has been found significantly lower for the group of athletes considered as the best

Designing focused on prosumption. DIY house concept

Idea prosumpcji polega na włączaniu przyszłego użytkownika w proces powstawania dobra, z którego będzie w przyszłości korzystał. Zjawisko to pojawia się w architekturze i budownictwie w niewielkim zakresie, jednak dynamiczny rozwój technologii w coraz większym stopniu tworzy możliwości dla takiego podejścia. W artykule poruszono ideę prosumpcji w odniesieniu do procesu wznoszenia budynku. Przedstawiono kierunki, które można wyodrębnić na podstawie analizy podejmowanych współcześnie prób samodzielnego budowania. Na ich tle zaprezentowano autorską koncepcję systemu pozwalającego wznosić obiekty o niewielkiej skali samodzielnie przez osoby nieposiadające wiedzy w zakresie budownictwa. Koncepcja powstała w ramach poszukiwań badawczych typu research by design. Studium obejmuje ogólną koncepcję systemu oraz projekt jego wykorzystania przy wzniesieniu domu mieszkalnego rekreacyjnego o powierzchni 35 m2. Projekt pozwolił autorom na wstępną ocenę jego możliwości i ograniczeń oraz przewidywania, w jaki sposób można je rozwijać.The concept of prosumption is aimed at involving the prospective users in the process of creating goods to be used in the future by them. The phenomenon occursto a small extentin architecture and construction. However, the dynamic development of technology increasingly offers possibilities for the application of such an approach. In the present article, the concept of prosumption in relation to building construction is presented. The article discusses directions to the issue which can be distinguished based on analysis of studies conducted in relation to contemporary independent construction attempts. Against the background of such approaches, the author’s own concept for a system with which construction of moderate-scale objects would be made possible for people without knowledge in the field of construction was presented. The concept was developed as part of the research by design method. The study accounts for the general concept of the system, as well as the project of its implementation for construction of a recreational residential house covering an area of 35 sq.m. The design allowed the authors to conduct an initial evaluation of capabilities of such a design approach, as well as to arrive at solutions on how they can be developed

Nazwisko Adama Bochenka znane jest wszystkim polskim lekarzom i studentom medycyny od ponad 100 lat. For all those years, the book he have written, has been introducing new generations of future doctors not only to anatomy but to the medicine in general. Bochenek’s The Human Anatomy is an extraordinary book. Typical for the author, descriptive way of writing as well as numerous drawings make all this vast and inaccessible knowledge more clear, lucid and sometimes even addictive. It is an example of a classical, extensive handbook of anatomy. Despite the passage of time, The Human Anatomy is still the leading textbook for all medical universities in Poland, and its new editions coming out every few years are the best way to prove it
