    An Analysis of English Lesson Plan Academic Year 2012/2013 at the First Semester of MAS Darul Ulum, Banda Aceh

    To conduct teaching English in the classroom, a teacher requires good preparations such as lesson planning preparation. Lesson plan needs to be developed by a teacher as a direction or road map towards all activities to be done by the teacher and students in the classroom in order to achieve one or more specific competencies appropriately and effectively. There are some English teachers who still face difficulties in developing effective and systematic lesson plans for a teaching program. In fact, they tend to imitate or even copy the ones provided in the textbook and the internet. The scarcity of English teachers in having trainings and workshops related to teaching, syllabus, and lesson plan development was also the problem in this study. Furthermore, the research conducted related to or the same as this study in Indonesia is rare. Considering these problems, a study related to an analysis of English lesson plan academic year 2012/2013 at the first semester of Madrasah Aliyah Swasta (MAS) Darul Ulum, Banda Aceh was conducted. There were nine lesson plans analyzed as they were developed by the teacher for one semester.The objective of this study was to investigate whether the English lesson plans provided by the only teacher of English at the first semester of MAS Darul Ulum, Banda Aceh are appropriate with the Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) or school-based curriculum or not and to find out the difficulties encountered by the teacher of English in developing the English lesson plans in terms of non-component of lesson plan basis and component of lesson plan basis as well as the efforts made by the teacher to overcome the difficulties. For this purpose, the writer conducted a qualitative research employing four different techniques of research, namely, content analysis, questionnaire, interview, and documentary study.The qualitative data were obtained from the content analysis checklist, the questionnaire distributed to the teacher of English at the first semester of MAS Darul Ulum, Banda Aceh as well as the interview conducted to the teacher of English at the first year and the principal of MAS Darul Ulum, Banda Aceh, and also the document such as syllabus.The findings showed that the lesson plans developed by the teacher at the first semester of MAS Darul Ulum, Banda Aceh generally met the standard determined by the KTSP, Standard of Content, and Standard of Process. Specifically, all of the components of a lesson plan were covered in the lesson plans developed. However, there were deficiencies found in 6 components from most lesson plans developed by the teacher, namely, materials, methods of teaching, teaching activity, time allocation, resources, and assessments. The analysis of the questionnaire data verified by the interview data also showed that the teacher of English at the first semester of MAS Darul Ulum, Banda Aceh faced 5 difficulties related to non-component of lesson plan basis, namely, (1) lack of time because of high load of teaching, (2) lack of ability in matching between students' aptitude/ability and appropriate method of teaching, (3) difficulty in developing lesson plan based on KTSP related to students' individual differences, (4) difficulty in developing lesson plan based on KTSP related to students' encouragement to be active learners, and (5) lack of ability in matching between technique of teaching and students' learning styles. Meanwhile, the difficulties of component of lesson plan basis faced by the teacher were 4, namely, (1) difficulty in adjusting between materials of study and appropriate method, (2) difficulty in arranging the steps of teaching activity especially in pre-teaching stage, (3) difficulty in matching between methods or strategies and the competency to be achieved by the students, and (4) difficulty in matching between resources such as media or tools of learning and materials of study. Moreover, there were 4 efforts made by the teacher to overcome the problems of non-component of lesson plan basis, namely, (1) consulting to a colleague or the teacher in the similar subject of teaching, (2) learning from books, journals, and internet, (3) participating in Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) or subject teacher discussion group, and (4) participating in seminars or workshops related to concept of teaching-learning, curriculum, syllabus and lesson plan development. Meanwhile, there were 5 efforts made by the teacher to overcome the problems of component of lesson plan basis, namely, (1) consulting to a colleague or the teacher in the similar subject of teaching, (2) learning from books, journals, and internet, (3) participating in MGMP, (4) conducting classroom action research, and (5) participating in seminars or workshops related to curriculum, syllabus and lesson plan development. It suggests that the teacher still has a few problems and deficiencies related to the teacher's competence and pedagogic competence especially in terms of developing lesson plan. However, in terms of efforts conducted to overcome the difficulties, it suggests that the teacher is a teacher who has good personality competence

    Properties Evaluation of Natural Weathered Polyester/Nano-Locust Bean Pods Ash (LBPA) Composite

    Nano-Locust bean Pod Ash (LBPA) reinforced polyester matrix composite was developed via Sol-gel techniques to investigate the mechanical and physical properties of the composite after weathering. The mechanical and physical test samples were prepared according to ASTM standard. The composite were subjected to weathering tests to study the effect of natural weather and its degradation on the properties of the composites. The moisture absorption of the composite after 24 hours as well as the weight loss of the test samples after degradation was evaluated. Percentage water absorption of the composite increased with increase in percentage reinforcement composition. The percentage weight losses also increase as the percent reinforcement in the composite increases. Weight loss of the test samples after 30 days shows the highest weight loss values. Approximately 54%, 11%, 86%, and 43% drop in values after 90days exposure was recorded for impact, tensile, flexural and hardness test values respectively. The reduction in modulus values recorded for tensile and flexural was approximately 51% and 8%. Keywords: Nanosized LBPA; polyester composite; Natural weathering; Properties

    Gold is one of the precious metals with high economic value, so the exploration process becomes an important stage to find new resources so that gold production remains optimal. The research was aimed at investigating the geological condition and characteristics of hydrothermal alteration and mineralization developed in the research site. The research site was included in the area CoW of PT. Gorontalo Sejahtera Mining exactly lied in Hulawa Village, Gorontalo, Indonesia. This research integrated the fieldwork with laboratory tests and analysis, including petrography, Analytical Spectral Devices, and mineragraphy. Based on data that had been conducted and data analysis results, it can be concluded that the research site consisted of lithology in the form of Oligocene granodiorite and Pliocene rhyodacite and diatreme breccia that rolled as host rock\u27s mineralization. Normal right-slip fault directing E-W is interpreted as a pre-mineralization structure, while normal left-slip fault directing NNE-SSW is interpreted as syn-mineralization structure or controlling structure during alteration and mineralization process. Alteration developed in research area consisted of the phyllic zone (sericite + quartz ± pyrite ± montmorillonite ± chlorite ± carbonate), argillic zone (illite + kaolinite ± smectite ± montmorilonite), and chloritic zone (chlorite + carbonate + pyrite ± quartz ± illite ± sericite ± montmorillonite). Hydrothermal deposits controlled by geological structure and volcanic mechanism. Mineralization in the research site was found in stockwork quartz veins and hydrothermal breccia, and some were found in dissemination with ores such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, galena, sphalerite, bornite, covelite, gold, and electrum. Based on its alteration and mineralization characteristics, the epithermal deposits in the research site was the type of low sulphidation deposite in-depth level in the model of open-vein and breccia

    Simulation of Hydrodesulphurization (HDS) Unit of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited

    This research was carried out to simulate the Hydrodesulphurization unit using ASPEN HYSYS with the aim of removing impurities such as Sulphur, Nitrogen and Oxygen in raw Kerosene. The simulation is based on conditions and parameters (mass flow rates, temperature and pressure readings) obtained from the Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) plant of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC). After the successful completion of the simulation, total removal of impurities was achieved as the concentration of sulphur, nitrogen and oxygen in mole fraction present in the treated Kerosene stream was approximately zero. The treated Kerosene composition indicated 0.0021, 0.3342, 0.3322 and 0.3315 mole fractions of n-C13, n-C14, n-C15 and n-C16 respectively.     Along both the coasts they start appearing in the catches when they are about two months old. But, along the west coast they are fiilly recruited to the fishery at an age of 6 months and along the east coast this happens at an age of 9 months. Bulk of the catches from west coast is by large seines of small meshes where young ones are liable to be caught and peak catches are from the size group of 140-149 mm. The major gear along the east coast is gill net with larger mesh and peak catches are from size group 190-199 mm. Along the west coast the estimated annual total mortality is 3.6. With an estimated M of 2.64 the fishing mortality F is 0.96 at an exploitation rate of 0.27 and E _^ estimated is 0.70

    Extensive central nervous system involvement in Merkel cell carcinoma: a case report and review of the literature

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Merkel cell carcinoma is a rare malignant cutaneous neoplasm that is locally invasive and frequently metastasizes to lymph nodes, liver, lungs, bone and brain. The incidence of Merkel cell carcinoma has increased in the past three decades.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>A 65-year-old Caucasian man presented with a sudden onset of severe headache and a three-month history of balance disturbance. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large meningeal metastasis. The radiologic workup showed retroperitoneal and inguinal lymph node metastases. Biopsy of the inguinal lymph nodes showed metastases of Merkel cell carcinoma. Biopsy from three different suspected skin lesions revealed no Merkel cell carcinoma, and the primary site of Merkel cell carcinoma remained unknown. Leptomeningeal metastases, new axillary lymph node metastases, and intraspinal (epidural and intradural) metastases were detected within six, seven and eight months, respectively, from the start of symptoms despite treating the intracranial metastasis with gamma knife and the abdominal metastases with surgical dissection and external radiotherapy. This indicates the aggressive nature of the disease.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in the literature of an intracranial meningeal metastasis of Merkel cell carcinoma treated with gamma knife and of intraspinal intradural metastases of Merkel cell carcinoma. Despite good initial response to radiotherapy, recurrence and occurrence of new metastases are common in Merkel cell carcinoma.</p

    Stock assessment of coastal tunas in the Indian seas

    Tuna and billfish production from the Indian coastal waters, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar islands during the period 1985-'99 averaged 40,204 t. The contribution by E.affinis, Athazard, T.tonggol, K.pelamis and T.albacares (young ones) were 18,5041,6,8521,3,093 t, 3,3921 and 2,2111 respectively.
