Quantum Key Distribution using Multilevel Encoding: Security Analysis
We present security proofs for a protocol for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)
based on encoding in finite high-dimensional Hilbert spaces. This protocol is
an extension of Bennett's and Brassard's basic protocol from two bases, two
state encoding to a multi bases, multi state encoding. We analyze the mutual
information between the legitimate parties and the eavesdropper, and the error
rate, as function of the dimension of the Hilbert space, while considering
optimal incoherent and coherent eavesdropping attacks. We obtain the upper
limit for the legitimate party error rate to ensure unconditional security when
the eavesdropper uses incoherent and coherent eavesdropping strategies. We have

Characteristics of Welding Fume Aerosol Investigated in Three Swedish Workshops
Potentially high human exposures to nanometer sized airborne particles occur due to welding and other thermal processes in industrial environments. Detailed field measurements of physical and chemical particle characteristics were performed in three work-shops in Sweden. Measurements were performed both in the plume 5-20 cm above the welding point and in the background air (more than 5 m away from the nearest known particle source). Particle number and mass concentrations were measured on-line. A low pressure impactor was used for size-resolved chemical particle composition. The in-plume measurements generated the chemical signatures for different welding processes. These signatures were then used to identify contributions from various processes to the particle concentrations in different size classes. The background number and mass concentrations increased by more than an order of magnitude during intense activities in the work-shops compared to low activities during breaks
A Comparison of Fresh and Frozen Lamb Meat—Differences in Technological Meat Quality and Sensory Attributes

Publisher Copyright: © 2022 by the authors.Technological meat quality and sensory attributes of fresh and frozen lamb meat were compared. Samples were collected from two abattoirs (one small-scale, one large-scale) that use different slaughter methods in terms of chilling regime and electrical stimulation. The fresh and frozen meat samples included products from both slaughter systems. Ten twin pairs of ram lambs were used in the study, with one of each twin slaughtered at each abattoir. Fresh meat was analysed after chilling and frozen meat was stored frozen for three months and analysed after thawing. The Musculus longissimus thoracis et lumborum was analysed for colour, cooking loss, sensory attributes, Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF) and distribution of water and lipid within each meat sample. Meat samples analysed after frozen storage were darker, less red and more yellow than the fresh meat. Freezing and frozen storage increased fluid loss and WBSF compared with the fresh meat, due to protein denaturation. Frozen storage affected sensory attributes by increasing fatty odour, frying flavour, sour flavour, fatty flavour and liver flavour, and by reducing juicy texture and mushy texture.Peer reviewe
Complementarity and the uncertainty relations
We formulate a general complementarity relation starting from any Hermitian
operator with discrete non-degenerate eigenvalues. We then elucidate the
relationship between quantum complementarity and the Heisenberg-Robertson's
uncertainty relation. We show that they are intimately connected. Finally we

Registration accuracy for MR images of the prostate using a subvolume based registration protocol
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In recent years, there has been a considerable research effort concerning the integration of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) into the external radiotherapy workflow motivated by the superior soft tissue contrast as compared to computed tomography. Image registration is a necessary step in many applications, e.g. in patient positioning and therapy response assessment with repeated imaging. In this study, we investigate the dependence between the registration accuracy and the size of the registration volume for a subvolume based rigid registration protocol for MR images of the prostate.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Ten patients were imaged four times each over the course of radiotherapy treatment using a T2 weighted sequence. The images were registered to each other using a mean square distance metric and a step gradient optimizer for registration volumes of different sizes. The precision of the registrations was evaluated using the center of mass distance between the manually defined prostates in the registered images. The optimal size of the registration volume was determined by minimizing the standard deviation of these distances.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We found that prostate position was most uncertain in the anterior-posterior (AP) direction using traditional full volume registration. The improvement in standard deviation of the mean center of mass distance between the prostate volumes using a registration volume optimized to the prostate was 3.9 mm (p < 0.001) in the AP direction. The optimum registration volume size was 0 mm margin added to the prostate gland as outlined in the first image series.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Repeated MR imaging of the prostate for therapy set-up or therapy assessment will both require high precision tissue registration. With a subvolume based registration the prostate registration uncertainty can be reduced down to the order of 1 mm (1 SD) compared to several millimeters for registration based on the whole pelvis.</p
