Solid state synthesis of extra phase-pure Li4Ti5O12 spinel

Extra phase-pure Li4Ti5O12 spinel with particle sizes less than 500 nm was synthesized by solid state reaction of mechanochemicaly activated mixture of nano anatase and Li2CO3 for a very short annealing time, 4 h at 800°C. Structural and microstructural properties, the mechanism of solid state reaction between anatase and Li2CO3 as well as thermal stability of prepared spinel were investigated using XRPD, SEM and TG/DSC analysis. The mechanism of reaction implies decomposition of Li2CO3 below 250ºC, formation of monoclinic Li2TiO3 as intermediate product between 400 and 600°C and its transformation to Li4Ti5O12 between 600-800ºC. The spinel structure is stable up to 1000ºC when it is decomposed due to Li2O evaporation

Influencia de los iones Ba2+ y Sr2+ en el proceso de hidratación del cemento portland y de los cementos con adiciones activas

This study concerns the influence of the concentration of Sr2+ and Ba2+ ions in mortar batch waters upon the hydration process of various Portland and additive cements. An increase in the mechanical resistence of said cements is observed, after 28 days, when the concentration of Ba2+ and Sr2+ ions in the mortar batch waters increases. This suggests a possible microstructural explanation of said phenomenon.

Modification of mechanical and thermal properties of fly ash-based geopolymer by the incorporation of steel slag

Geopolymeric binders (GB) were produced using fly ash (FA) and electric arc furnace slag (EAFS). The slag has been added in the range of 0-40%. The effects of slag content on the strength, microstructure and thermal resistance were evaluated. It was found that the amount of EAFS up to 30% positively affects the strength evolution of GB. The main reaction product of FA/EAFS blends was amorphous N
