Expanding access to tribal treaties in the United States from 1778-1886
The Oklahoma State University Libraries joined with federal partners to create the Tribal Treaties Database (TTD), based on the seven-volume Indian Affairs: Laws and Treaties, edited by Charles J. Kappler. In its second year of development, the TTD has seen many advancements, including newly annotated provisions, improved search functionality, and expanded data interoperability. This poster will highlight the background of this important project, showcase screenshots from the database, provide an overview of statistics since its launch, and outline future updates to the online portal to encourage and expand use.Librar
Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura
Patients with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, or TTP, are often times seen in the emergency department and subsequently admitted to the inpatient or the critical care unit. The problems that TTP patients can present with vary greatly and astute nursing assessment plus knowledge of the pathophysiology behind the diagnosis is vital to deliver excellent nursing care. Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura or TTP is a rare but potentially fatal condition that occurs as result of decreased levels of ADAMTS-13, a cleaving protease for von Willebrand factor (vWF), which causes platelet aggregation and microvascular thrombi and subsequent end-organ damage, along with thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, and possible neurologic and renal impairment (Kappler, Ronan-Bentle, & Graham, 2014). TTP belongs to a group of disorders called thrombotic microangiopathies. Also included in this group are Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), and pregnancy-induced hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count (HELLP) syndrome (Kappler et al., 2014). The decreases in ADAMTS-13, causing TTP, can either be congenital, idiopathic, or acquired as a result of autoantibodies, drugs, or malignancies (Trachtman, 2013). TTP can occur spontaneously or be triggered by an infection, pregnancy, or other stimulus of autoantibodies and as many as 30% of those affected relapse after a remission (Rosove, 2014). Most commonly occurring in adults, primarily women, patients typically present with thrombocytopenia (with or without signs of bleeding), hemolytic anemia, fever, altered mental status or headaches, renal impairment, and abdominal or chest pain (Kappler et al, 2014). Treatment for TTP is plasma exchange therapy, with the goal of replacing the missing ADAMTS-13 and removing the contributing antibody (Kappler et al., 2014). Patients presenting with these symptoms may be cared for in many areas of practice and because correct diagnosis and prompt treatment are crucial in TTP, clinicians must be informed on signs, symptoms, and proper treatment. Without prompt recognition and treatment, mortality rates from TTP can be as high as 90% (Kappler et al., 201

Kappler. In June 2021, the OSU Libraries partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Interior to enhance the online presence of this work with the launch of the Tribal Treaties Database (TTD). This database includes an updated comprehensive index and features ease in browsing the agreements between tribal nations and the United States from 1778 to 1886.Librar
Lamprey watershed education and outreach
The Lamprey River Nomination Committee sought the assistance of the Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (PREP) to complete an extensive and detailed information package to nominate the Lamprey River and its major tributaries to the NH Rivers Management and Protection Program. The nomination package was due at DES on June 1, 2010, was reviewed and accepted by the State Rivers Management Committee in September and forwarded to the Commissioner of DES. The nomination is now working through the NH legislature with hearings anticipated during the spring 2011 session. If passed, the bill should be signed by Governor Lynch in July of 2011.
Assistance from PREP was essential for the completion of a major outreach effort to landowners along the rivers under consideration, communication with each town selec tboard, planning board and conservation commission, and with many partners and organizations throughout the watershe
Claiming Legitimization : Non-State Violent Local Stakeholders and Power Legitimization of the Maccabees in Judea in the Second Century BCE and the Koglwéogo in Today’s Burkina Faso
How do local vigilante groups claim power and justify their authority in antiquity and in contemporary society? We approach this question from an interdisciplinary perspective: on the one hand we look at it from Old Testament Exegesis through a narratological analysis of the First and Second Books of the Maccabees and on the other hand, through ethnographical analysis, we examine legitimization patterns within Koglwéogo vigilante groups.
In this paper, we address the reasons presented for the need of legitimization and analyze the parallels concerning the ways in which the groups are legitimized. We therefore present and discuss three cases: Our first case concerns the First Book of Maccabees. It tells the story of the expansion and consolidation of local power by the Hasmoneans ex post (ca. 100 BCE). In 1 Macc 2:1–70, the leader of the Maccabean revolt Mattathias is linked to tradition, but tradition is reshaped for the Maccabean’s own legitimization purposes.
Thus, the Maccabees are legitimized in their beginnings (1 Macc 2:1–70) and so is the establishment and persistence of the Hasmonean dynasty itself.
The Second Book of Maccabees – the second case – concentrates on the prehistory and first years of the Maccabean uprising under Judas the Maccabee (175 BCE to 161 BCE). It provides a hostile description of the enemy king Antiochus V Eupator, contrasted with a vivid depiction of Judean prayer, fasting, and decision-making, which lead to a successful fight against Antiochus V and his troops (2 Macc 13:9–17).
The third and last case concerns the Koglwéogo groups emerging in the security landscape in Burkina Faso since 2014. Taking advantage of the security vacuum left by the state especially in rural areas, they organized themselves to secure the areas in which they emerge. Under the authority of traditional chiefs and religious leaders, they claim their role as effective security providers beyond the state. We show that these non-state violent actors in antiquity and modernity have parallels in their legitimization. These justifications are manifested in three main aspects: tradition, religion and cult as well as the contrast of enemy images serve to legitimize these non-state violent actors. Hence, we illustrate that the methods used for legitimization both in antiquity and modernity have structural parallels and functionally similar patterns of justification.
Singular Behaviour of the Potts Model in the Thermodynamic Limit
The self-duality transformation is applied to the Fisher zeroes near the
critical point in the thermodynamic limit in the q>4 state Potts model in two
dimensions. A requirement that the locus of the duals of the zeroes be
identical to the dual of the locus of zeroes (i) recovers the ratio of specific
heat to internal energy discontinuity at criticality and the relationships
between the discontinuities of higher cumulants and (ii) identifies duality
with complex conjugation. Conjecturing that all zeroes governing ferromagnetic
critical behaviour satisfy the latter requirement, the full locus of Fisher
zeroes is shown to be a circle. This locus, together with the density of zeroes
is shown to be sufficient to recover the singular form of all thermodynamic
functions in the thermodynamic limit.Comment: Contribution to Lattice 97, LaTeX, 3 pages, 0 figure
