The low-noise optimisation method for gearbox in consideration of operating conditions
This paper presents a comprehensive procedure to calculate the steady dynamic response and the noise radiation generated from a stepping-down gearbox. In this process, the dynamic model of the cylindrical gear transmission system is built with the consideration of the time-varying mesh stiffness, gear errors and bearing supporting, while the data of dynamic bearing force is obtained through solving the model. Furthermore, taking the data of bearing force as the excitation, the gearbox vibrations and noise radiation are calculated by numerical simulation, and then the time history of node dynamic response, noise spectrum and resonance frequency range of the gearbox are obtained. Finally, the gearbox panel acoustic contribution at the resonance frequency range is calculated. Based on the conclusions from the gearbox panel acoustic contribution analyses and the mode shapes, two gearbox stiffness improving plans have been studied. By contrastive analysis of gearbox noise radiation, the effectiveness of the improving plans is confirmed. This study has provided useful theoretical guideline to the gearbox design
The electromagnetic form factors of the proton in the timelike region
The reactions ppbar -> e+e- and e+e- -> ppbar are analyzed in the
near-threshold region. Specific emphasis is put on the role played by the
interaction in the initial- or final antinucleon-nucleon state which is taken
into account rigorously. For that purpose a recently published NNbar potential
derived within chiral effective field theory and fitted to results of a new
partial-wave analysis of ppbar scattering data is employed. Our results provide
strong support for the conjecture that the pronounced energy dependence of the
e+e- ppbar cross section, seen in pertinent experiments, is primarily due
to the ppbar interaction. Predictions for the proton electromagnetic form
factors G_E and G_M in the timelike region, close to the NNbar threshold, and
for spin-dependent observables are presented. The steep rise of the effective
form factor for energies close to the ppbar threshold is explained solely in
terms of the ppbar interaction. The corresponding experimental information is
quantitatively described by our calculation.Comment: 14 pages, 11 figure
Modulation of the Curie Temperature in Ferromagnetic/Ferroelectric Hybrid Double Quantum Wells
We propose a ferromagnetic/ferroelectric hybrid double quantum well
structure, and present an investigation of the Curie temperature (Tc)
modulation in this quantum structure. The combined effects of applied electric
fields and spontaneous electric polarization are considered for a system that
consists of a Mn \delta-doped well, a barrier, and a p-type ferroelectric well.
We calculate the change in the envelope functions of carriers at the lowest
energy sub-band, resulting from applied electric fields and switching the
dipole polarization. By reversing the depolarizing field, we can achieve two
different ferromagnetic transition temperatures of the ferromagnetic quantum
well in a fixed applied electric field. The Curie temperature strongly depends
on the position of the Mn \delta-doped layer and the polarization strength of
the ferroelectric well.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev. B (2006) minor

Structures of ultrathin copper nanotubes
We have performed atomistic simulations for helical multi-shell (HMS) Cu
nanowires and nanotubes. Our investigation on HMS Cu nanowires and nanotubes
has revealed some physical properties that were not dealt in previous works
that considered metal nanowires. As the diameter of HMS nanowires increased,
their cohesive energy per atom and optimum lattice constant decreased. As the
diameter of HMS nanotubes increases, their cohesive energy per atom decreased
but optimum lattice constant increased. Shell-shell or core-shell interactions
mainly affected on the lattice constant and the diameter of HMS nanowires or
nanotubes. This study showed that HMS nanotubes for materials of fcc metal
crystals can be maintained when forces exerted on atoms of inner shell of the
HMS nanotubes are zero or act on the direction of the outside.Comment: 16 pages, 1 table, 5 figure
Electronic structure of YbB: Is it a Topological Insulator or not?
To resolve the controversial issue of the topological nature of the
electronic structure of YbB, we have made a combined study using density
functional theory (DFT) and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES).
Accurate determination of the low energy band topology in DFT requires the use
of modified Becke-Johnson exchange potential incorporating the spin-orbit
coupling and the on-site Coulomb interaction of Yb electrons as large
as 7 eV. We have double-checked the DFT result with the more precise GW band
calculation. ARPES is done with the non-polar (110) surface termination to
avoid band bending and quantum well confinement that have confused ARPES
spectra taken on the polar (001) surface termination. Thereby we show
definitively that YbB has a topologically trivial B 2-Yb 5
semiconductor band gap, and hence is a non-Kondo non-topological insulator
(TI). In agreement with theory, ARPES shows pure divalency for Yb and a -
band gap of 0.3 eV, which clearly rules out both of the previous scenarios of
- band inversion Kondo TI and - band inversion non-Kondo TI. We
have also examined the pressure-dependent electronic structure of YbB,
and found that the high pressure phase is not a Kondo TI but a
\emph{p}-\emph{d} overlap semimetal.Comment: The main text is 6 pages with 4 figures, and the supplementary

Nuclear Modification to Parton Distribution Functions and Parton Saturation
We introduce a generalized definition of parton distribution functions (PDFs)
for a more consistent all-order treatment of power corrections. We present a
new set of modified DGLAP evolution equations for nuclear PDFs, and show that
the resummed -type of leading nuclear size enhanced power
corrections significantly slow down the growth of gluon density at small-.
We discuss the relation between the calculated power corrections and the
saturation phenomena.Comment: 4 pages, to appear in the proceedings of QM200
Spin resonance in the d-wave superconductor CeCoIn5
Neutron scattering is used to probe antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in
the d-wave heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn (T=2.3 K).
Superconductivity develops from a state with slow (=0.3 0.15
meV) commensurate (=(1/2,1/2,1/2)) antiferromagnetic spin
fluctuations and nearly isotropic spin correlations. The characteristic
wavevector in CeCoIn is the same as CeIn but differs from the
incommensurate wavevector measured in antiferromagnetically ordered
CeRhIn. A sharp spin resonance ( meV) at
= 0.60 0.03 meV develops in the superconducting state removing spectral
weight from low-energy transfers. The presence of a resonance peak is
indicative of strong coupling between f-electron magnetism and
superconductivity and consistent with a d-wave gap order parameter satisfying
