Study of dynamic response of elastic space stations

    Get PDF
Analytical procedure and the requisite computer programs compute the dynamic responses of two large elastic space stations. The linearized equations of motion are derived from lagranges equations. Then the normal modes of free vibration of the nonrotating space station are used to define the elastic degrees of freedom

thesisFrom the perspective of a choreographic artist, 'The Language of Fibers: How Movement Emerges from Space Harmony Theory and Architecture' discusses the creative process through the lens of two theoretical frameworks. Rudolf Laban’s Space Harmony Theory examines the relationship between the human body and the space created in crystalline forms. Architectural principles are focused on the structure of the creative space and how location influences movement. In pairing these two theories, moments of collaboration and clear difference occurred. The choreographic process was a journey to find harmony, discovering how research could provide a structure for movement. Architecture pinpoints movement within a particular location and emphasizes a dancer’s change in size, movement pathways, and relationship to other performers. Harmony, as conceived by Laban, is achieved through the feeling of proportionate change in the body as one reveals both points and spatial pathways. Primarily looking at location and the body’s ability to interact with space and others, the choreography emerged through the use of collaboration. Weaving together seventeen movement sections, the choreographic structure was directly developed from these theoretical points of view

Presented at the National data integrity conference: enabling research: new challenges & opportunities held on May 7-8, 2015 at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado. Researchers, administrators and integrity officers are encountering new challenges regarding research data and integrity. This conference aims to provide attendees with both a high level understanding of these challenges and impart practical tools and skills to deal with them. Topics will include data reproducibility, validity, privacy, security, visualization, reuse, access, preservation, rights and management.Anke Kamrath is the Director of Operations and Services, Computational and Information Systems Laboratory at the National Center for Atmospheric Research.PowerPoint presentation given on May 8, 2015

    Family Tools

The purpose of this written component is to document my thesis exhibition Family Tools . From February 14th to March 2nd, eight mixed media ceramic, wood, and metal sculptures were on display in Gallery 181-1 in the College of Design at Iowa State University in Ames, IA. The subject matter for these sculptures is my relationship with each of my immediate family members, my mother, father, brother, sister, and wife. These relationships are personified through various hand tools used to represent meanings specific to each sculpture. Family Tools includes My Father\u27s Hands exploring my relationship with my father, Teacher for my mother, The Carpenter\u27s Sons for my brother, Toolbox for my wife, Self Portrait (as a Hammer) for myself, Drop Forged for my sister, and two sets of Sibling Jars relating to siblings in general

A Subversive Socialist Craftsperson in the Post-Post Modern World (The Conspiratorial ranting of Kristoff Kamrath)

My research in this thesis delves into the corruption of American culture and my personal experience with the academic institution of art school. I delineate my symbolic representation of a social agenda through images and objects that reference the absurdity of institutionalized art and the decay of socialist idealism in the realm of crafts and contemporary culture at large

Revisiting the Revolving Door of Rural Superintendent Turnover

    Get PDF
This qualitative multiple case study is a follow-up to a study completed in 2007 that examined characteristics of rural school districts experiencing a high rate of superintendent turnover. The original study design incorporated extensive interviews with participants across four rural school districts; triangulating interview results with information found in school board minutes and published media articles. The four case districts had employed a total of 19 superintendents in the ten-year period leading up to the original study. However, since then, three of the districts have experienced a drastic change in their turnover trend. This study revisits the four rural districts to determine, from the perspectives of current and former superintendents, internal and external characteristics of the districts and the superintendents themselves that contributed to superintendent stability. Similarities and differences across the four districts are highlighted, and implications for high turnover districts and their superintendents are discussed

Differentiating Instruction To Develop Conceptual Understanding In Multiplication

    Get PDF
The research question addressed in this project was: How can curriculum be created to increase student conceptual understanding of multiplication? The author investigated how to develop an understanding in multiplication through research on conceptual understanding, the stages of learning multiplication and how to integrate a conceptual understanding into the classroom. The author considered the work of Boaler, Brickwedde, Carpenter and Wright to guide his research. The Understanding by Design model from Wiggins and McTighe was used to create the curriculum. The research resulted in a six week multiplication curriculum which consists of daily forty-five minute intervention period through four stations: Teacher station, Game station, Proof station and Practice station. Included are materials, plans and a Conceptual Multiplication Assessment which the instructor can use to monitor student learning in a fourth grade classroom
