A new method to derive middle atmospheric temperature profiles using a combination of Rayleigh lidar and O<sub>2</sub> airglow temperatures measurements
The vertical temperature profiles in a typical
Rayleigh lidar system depends on the backscatter photon
counts and the CIRA-86 model inputs. For the first time,
we show that, by making simultaneous measurements of
Rayleigh lidar and upper mesospheric O2 temperatures, the
lidar capability can be enhanced to obtain mesospheric temperature
profile up to about 95 km altitudes. The obtained results
are compared with instantaneous space-borne SABER
measurements for a validation

Abstract: A series of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole were efficiently prepared by InCl 3 catalyzed (10 mol %) from structurally divert organic nitriles with sodium azide under the influence of microwave irradiation. The present protocol was successfully applied to the aliphatic, aryl, benzylic and heterocyclic nitriles and corresponding 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole were obtained in good to excellent yield (70-96%). Magnetoconductance anisotropy of a polymer thin film at the onset of metallicity
Thin films of poly(2,5-bis(3-dodecyl-2-yl)-thieno[3,2-b] thiophene) (C12-PBTTT) polymer under electrolyte gating and doping are investigated as model systems for organic thin films devices approaching the metallic side of a metal-insulator (M-I) transition. For the most doped samples, with an estimated density reaching 8 x 10(20) cm(-3) holes and a conductivity exceeding 1000 S cm(-1), a positive high-field magnetoconductance is found in a limited temperature range window and only when the field is perpendicular to the sample plane. This signature of weak localization, combined with indications of finite zero-temperature conductivity, allows us to identify delocalized metallic-like transport in these thin films, even though the conductivity decreases when cooling down the samples. Spina bifida-predisposing heterozygous mutations in Planar Cell Polarity genes and Zic2 reduce bone mass in young mice
Fractures are a common comorbidity in children with the neural tube defect (NTD) spina bifida. Mutations in the Wnt/planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway contribute to NTDs in humans and mice, but whether this pathway independently determines bone mass is poorly understood. Here, we first confirmed that core Wnt/PCP components are expressed in osteoblasts and osteoclasts in vitro. In vivo, we performed detailed µCT comparisons of bone structure in tibiae from young male mice heterozygous for NTD-associated mutations versus WT littermates. PCP signalling disruption caused by Vangl2 (Vangl2Lp/+) or Celsr1 (Celsr1Crsh/+) mutations significantly reduced trabecular bone mass and distal tibial cortical thickness. NTD-associated mutations in non-PCP transcription factors were also investigated. Pax3 mutation (Pax3Sp2H/+) had minimal effects on bone mass. Zic2 mutation (Zic2Ku/+) significantly altered the position of the tibia/fibula junction and diminished cortical bone in the proximal tibia. Beyond these genes, we bioinformatically documented the known extent of shared genetic networks between NTDs and bone properties. 46 genes involved in neural tube closure are annotated with bone-related ontologies. These findings document shared genetic networks between spina bifida risk and bone structure, including PCP components and Zic2. Genetic variants which predispose to spina bifida may therefore independently diminish bone mass
Airglow measurements of wave damping at upper mesospheric altitudes over a low latitude station in India

this paper, nighttime mesospheric OH and O2 temperature variability
over Gadanki, a low latitude station in the Indian sector during February 2010
have been studied. It has been noted that mesospheric wave amplitudes show
large variability from one night to the other. Occasionally, the mesospheric
waves show larger amplitudes in O2 data compared to the amplitudes
of similar period waves in OH data indicating the amplification in wave
amplitudes. For the waves noted simultaneously at OH and O2 data,
the damping factors have been calculated. The analysis reveals a highly dynamic
upper mesosphere with some of the waves showing upward propagation (damping
factor < 1), some reaching to their saturation levels (damping factor ~1)
and few waves getting strongly damped (damping factor >1)
First observation of upper mesospheric semi annual oscillations using ground based airglow measurements from Indian low latitudes
We summarize two years of Mesosphere Lower Thermosphere Photometer (MLTP) operation of mesospheric OH and O2 emission monitoring. The deduced mesospheric OH and O2 temperatures show large variability. Nightly temperature variations over Gadanki (13.5°N, 79.2°E) are dominated by the short period wave features, while tidal amplitudes are relatively small. Our measurements are the first to report a long period seasonal variation at two upper mesospheric altitudes simultaneously over the Indian sector. Our observations reveal the presence of a dominant semi-annual oscillation (∼6 months periodicity) together with a shorter period (∼2.5 months periodicity) oscillation in both OH and O2 data
