A Doorway Detection and Direction (3Ds) System for Social Robots via a Monocular Camera

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to detect a door and its orientation in indoor settings from the view of a social robot equipped with only a monocular camera. The challenge is to achieve this goal with only a 2D image from a monocular camera. The proposed system is designed through the integration of several modules, each of which serves a special purpose. The detection of the door is addressed by training a convolutional neural network (CNN) model on a new dataset for Social Robot Indoor Navigation (SRIN). The direction of the door (from the robot’s observation) is achieved by three other modules: Depth module, Pixel-Selection module, and Pixel2Angle module, respectively. We include simulation results and real-time experiments to demonstrate the performance of the algorithm. The outcome of this study could be beneficial in any robotic navigation system for indoor environments

Znak sumjerljivosti vjerojatnosti praznina u sudarima 28si-jezgra

Probability of detecting no particles in a limited phase space is investigated by analysing the experimental data on 14.5A GeV/c 28Si-nucleus collisions. The findings are compared with the predictions of HIJING Monte-Carlo model. A scaling behaviour of the void probability is observed which confirms the linked-pair approximation for N-particle cumulant correlation functions. The analysis of the mixed events also indicates that the scaling behaviour observed in the present study is a feature of the experimental data.

Relationship between transformational leadership, organizational structure and knowledge management

    Get PDF
The study examines the relationships between transformational leadership style, knowledge management and organizational structure among 255 administrators in a public university in Malaysia. The findings of this study reveal that transformational leadership style is a vital in promoting knowledge management practices in an organization.Specifically, the result of this study reveals that idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration of transformational leadership style significantly influence knowledge management practices. The organizational structure was found to moderate the effect of transformational leadership on knowledge management indicating that organizational structure plays a crucial role in assisting the leaders to manage knowledge across the organization

A novel green antenna phase-shift system with data acquisition boards

    Get PDF
A novel green phase shifter system is proposed in this research. The system is developed by a combination of reconfigurable beam steering antennas and data acquisition (DAQ) boards. A combination of two reconfigurable beam steering antennas, located side-by-side, forms a spatial configuration structure with a fabricated ‘green’ element plank of rice husk placed in between. The concept of a spatial configuration technique has been ‘mutated’ by shifting the structure of spiral feed line and aperture slots of first beam steering antenna by as much as 45 ◦ . The PIN diode switches connected to the DAQ boards enable the intelligent capability of the spatial antennas. The activation of certain degree radiation patterns of either the first beam steering antenna or the second beam steering antenna depends on the memory of the DAQ boards — Beam Manager. When an intruder comes from the cardinal angles of 0◦/ 360◦, 90◦, 180◦, or 270◦, its range and angles’ location will be automatically detected by the first antenna through the output ports of the 1st DAQ: P1.0, P1.1, P1.2, and P1.3. The second antenna is then activated by the output ports of the 2nd DAQ: P2.0 up to P2.3, to adaptively maneuver the beam towards four different ordinal directions of 45◦, 135◦, 225◦, and 315◦

Falls and potential therapeutic interventions among elderly and older adult patients with cancer: a systematic review

Objectives: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review for previous publications that have assessed the incidence, risk factors, and favorable procedures to prevent and manage falls among cancer survivors of elderly and older adults. Materials: This systematic review was undertook using PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, Medline, and Cochrane Database of clinical studies and systematic reviews to determine the incidence, risk factors, favorable inpatient and outpatient management, and non-pharmacological interventions for falls among elderly and older adult patients with cancer from 2010 to October, 2020. Results: After the comprehensive screening, clinical studies, meta-analysis, systematic reviews, and established guidelines were included in this review. Only 5 clinical studies (3 randomized and 2 single-arm studies), 5 systematic reviews, and 6 established guidelines were considered eligible. The five systematic reviews provide risk factors of falls and the 6 guidelines provide assessment & prevention modalities of falls, however, the 6 clinical studies provide the non-pharmacological intervention for falling among cancer survivors. Many factors associated are demonstrated among wide range of elderly individuals.Earlier falls were reliably listed as an important risk factor of falls in the two inpatient and outpatient environments including both general older people and geriatric cancer populations. Conclusions: This review concludes that the assessment of falls among older individuals with cancer is the most important way for determining who could need additional observation and treatment program. Health professions involving physical therapy and occupational therapy have an important function for promoting health well-being in elderly and older adults with cancer. Keywords: Cancer; falls; elderly; older adults, risk factors, intervention

Convalescent Plasma Therapy: A Passive Therapy for An Aggressive COVID-19

    Get PDF
As of May 19, 2020, there are in total 4,986,200 laboratory-confirmed Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases. 2% (45,425) out of 2,657,390 active COVID-19 cases are critically ill and might be requiring intensive care support. Unfortunately, even after six months since its first detection, we still do not have any definitive treatment options for COVID-19 pneumonia. Recently, the use of human convalescent plasma is being considered as a potential option for the treatment of COVID-19

Experiments were initiated at MARDI Bertam Rice Research Station in Penang in the dry season of 2004 and main season 2004/2005 to study the effect of different water regimes on diversity of weed species. Plots receiving continuous flooded treatment (T1) and flooding up to panicle initiation (T2) significantly suppressed weed population to approximately 18 – 58% and reduced weed biomass to 14 – 57% as compared to the highest values in continuous field capacity treatment (T5) at all sampling dates (30, 60 and 90 DAS) in both planting seasons. Across water regime treatments the weed composition comprised of 11 weed species in the dry season and 10 weed species in the main season. Broadleaved weeds, especially Monochoria vaginalis and Limnocharis flava were the most dominant weeds in most water regime treatments. The SDR values of broadleaved weeds in the dry season were 48.7, 46.4, 44.2, 40.7 and 35.8% for T2, T1, T3 (flooding for the first month), T5 and T4 (continuous saturation), respectively. In the main season, the SDR values for the broadleaved weeds increased to 79.5, 68.2, 62.4, 62.2, and 50.57% for T2, T1, T3, T4 and T5, respectively. Fimbristylis miliacea and Cyperus iria were dominant in the dry season with SDR values of more than 34% in all water regime treatments, but decreased to less than 23% in the main season. For grasses, comprising of mostly Echinochloa crus-galli, Echinochloa colona and Leptochloa chinensis, SDR values of more than 20% were recorded in T4 and T5 in the dry season, while in the main season SDR values of between 21 – 34% were observed in treatments T1, T3and T5
