The Lorenz number in CeCoIn inferred from the thermal and charge Hall currents
The thermal Hall conductivity and Hall conductivity
in CeCoIn are used to determine the Lorenz number at low temperature . This enables the separation of the observed
thermal conductivity into its electronic and non-electronic parts. We uncover
evidence for a charge-neutral, field-dependent thermal conductivity, which we
identify with spin excitations. At low , these excitations dominate the
scattering of charge carriers. We show that suppression of the spin excitations
in high fields leads to a steep enhancement of the electron mean-free-path,
which leads to an interesting scaling relation between the magnetoresistance,
thermal conductivity and .Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures Intro para slightly lengthened. Added 2 new re
Compressibility of and (M = Rh, Ir and Co) Compounds
The lattice parameters of the tetragonal compounds CeIn and
CeIn(Rh, Ir and Co) have been studied as a function of
pressure up to 15 GPa using a diamond anvil cell under both hydrostatic and
quasihydrostatic conditions at room temperature. The addition of In
layers to the parent CeIn compound is found to stiffen the lattice as the
2-layer systems (average of bulk modulus values is 70.4 GPa) have a
larger than CeIn (67 GPa), while the 1-layer systems with the are
even stiffer (average of is 81.4 GPa). Estimating the hybridization
using parameters from tight binding calculations shows that the dominant
hybridization is in nature between the Ce and In atoms. The values of
at the pressure where the superconducting transition temperature
reaches a maximum is the same for all CeIn compounds. By
plotting the maximum values of the superconducting transition temperature
versus for the studied compounds and Pu-based superconductors, we
find a universal versus behavior when these quantities are
normalized appropriately. These results are consistent with magnetically
mediated superconductivity.Comment: Updated version resubmitted to Phys. Rev.
Anomalous Superconducting Properties and Field Induced Magnetism in CeCoIn5
In the heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 (Tc=2.3K) the critical field is
large, anisotropic and displays hysteresis. The magnitude of the critical-field
anisotropy in the a-c plane can be as large as 70 kOe and depends on
orientation. Critical field measurements in the (110) plane suggest 2D
superconductivity, whereas conventional effective mass anisotropy is observed
in the (100) plane. Two distinct field-induced magnetic phases are observed: Ha
appears deep in the superconducting phase, while Hb intersects Hc2 at T=1.4 K
and extends well above Tc. These observations suggest the possible realization
of a direct transition from ferromagnetism to Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov
superconductivity in CeCoIn5.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Sorption-luminescence method for determination of terbium using Transcarpathian clinoptilolite
Sorption-luminescent method for terbium determination based on natural Transcarpathian clinoptilolite without using of complex synthetic organic compounds and toxic solvents was proposed. Optimal luminophore preparation conditions are sorption of Tb(III) on zeolite in the borate buffer solution with pH 8.25 and further calcination of clinoptilolite-Tb(III) samples at 500 degrees C. For luminescence excitation the rays with wavelength of lambda = 220 nm of were used. Luminescence intensity at lambda = 545 nm was selected as analytical parameter for a quantitative terbium determination. Definable range of Tb(III) concentration with the detection limit of 1 ng mL(-1) is within of 3-1140 ng mL(-1). The proposed method can be used for the terbium determination in the presence of many rare earths. Sorption-luminescent method can be applied for determination of trace terbium ions in synthetic water solutions and in intermetallics. The proposed analytical method gave recoveries from 90% to 108% and R.S.D. from 0.78% to 6.2% determination of terbium
