Direct search for light gluinos
We present the results for a direct search for light gluinos through the appearance of with high transverse momentum in the vacuum tank of the NA48 experiment at CERN. We find one event within a lifetime range of s and another one between s. Both events are consistent with the expected background from neutrons in the beam, produced by 450 GeV protons impinging on the Be targets, which interact with the residual air in the tank. From these data we give limits on the production of the hypothetical bound state, the hadron, and its decay in the mass range between 1 and 5~GeV
First measurement of the rate
In a preliminary version of the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS, in which an iron- scintillator sandwich calorimeter was used as a photon detector, the ratio of K and K decays was measured. The branching ratio BR(K_L \to \pi\mu\nu\gamma, \mbox{E}_\gamma^*\ge30~\mbox{MeV})/(K) is found to be , where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The result is in agreement with theoretical predictions
Measurement of the decay rate and the parameter of the decay
The rate of the decay of the neutral K meson into has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 59 events has been observed with an estimated background of 14 events. The overall Kaon flux was determined to be . This observation corresponds to a branching ratio of . Using this branching ratio the parameter describing the relative strength of the two contributing amplitudes to this decay, through intermediate pseudoscalar or vectorlike mesons, was measured to be $\alpha_{K^{*}} = -0.04_{-0.21}^{+0.24}
Measurement of the decay rate and form factor parameter in the decay
The decay rate of the neutral K meson has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 6864 events has been observed with an estimated background of 10 events. The branching ratio is . The parameter describing the relative strength of the two contributing amplitudes to this decay through intermediate seudoscalar or vector mesons, was measured to be $\mathrm{\alpha_{K^{*}} = -0.36 \pm 0.06_{stat.} \pm 0.02_{sys.}}
