Nondegenerate 3D complex Euclidean superintegrable systems and algebraic varieties
A classical (or quantum) second order superintegrable system is an integrable
n-dimensional Hamiltonian system with potential that admits 2n-1 functionally
independent second order constants of the motion polynomial in the momenta, the
maximum possible. Such systems have remarkable properties: multi-integrability
and multi-separability, an algebra of higher order symmetries whose
representation theory yields spectral information about the Schroedinger
operator, deep connections with special functions and with QES systems. Here we
announce a complete classification of nondegenerate (i.e., 4-parameter)
potentials for complex Euclidean 3-space. We characterize the possible
superintegrable systems as points on an algebraic variety in 10 variables
subject to six quadratic polynomial constraints. The Euclidean group acts on
the variety such that two points determine the same superintegrable system if
and only if they lie on the same leaf of the foliation. There are exactly 10
nondegenerate potentials.Comment: 35 page
Complete sets of invariants for dynamical systems that admit a separation of variables
Consider a classical Hamiltonian H in n dimensions consisting of a kinetic energy term plus a potential. If the associated HamiltonâJacobi equation admits an orthogonal separation of variables, then it is possible to generate algorithmically a canonical basis Q, P where P1 = H, P2, ,Pn are the other second-order constants of the motion associated with the separable coordinates, and {Qi,Qj} = {Pi,Pj} = 0, {Qi,Pj} = ij. The 2nâ1 functions Q2, ,Qn,P1, ,Pn form a basis for the invariants. We show how to determine for exactly which spaces and potentials the invariant Qj is a polynomial in the original momenta. We shed light on the general question of exactly when the Hamiltonian admits a constant of the motion that is polynomial in the momenta. For n = 2 we go further and consider all cases where the HamiltonâJacobi equation admits a second-order constant of the motion, not necessarily associated with orthogonal separable coordinates, or even separable coordinates at all. In each of these cases we construct an additional constant of the motion
Path Integral Approach for Superintegrable Potentials on Spaces of Non-constant Curvature: II. Darboux Spaces DIII and DIV
This is the second paper on the path integral approach of superintegrable
systems on Darboux spaces, spaces of non-constant curvature. We analyze in the
spaces \DIII and \DIV five respectively four superintegrable potentials,
which were first given by Kalnins et al. We are able to evaluate the path
integral in most of the separating coordinate systems, leading to expressions
for the Green functions, the discrete and continuous wave-functions, and the
discrete energy-spectra. In some cases, however, the discrete spectrum cannot
be stated explicitly, because it is determined by a higher order polynomial
equation.
We show that also the free motion in Darboux space of type III can contain
bound states, provided the boundary conditions are appropriate. We state the
energy spectrum and the wave-functions, respectively
Infinite families of superintegrable systems separable in subgroup coordinates
A method is presented that makes it possible to embed a subgroup separable
superintegrable system into an infinite family of systems that are integrable
and exactly-solvable. It is shown that in two dimensional Euclidean or
pseudo-Euclidean spaces the method also preserves superintegrability. Two
infinite families of classical and quantum superintegrable systems are obtained
in two-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space whose classical trajectories and
quantum eigenfunctions are investigated. In particular, the wave-functions are
expressed in terms of Laguerre and generalized Bessel polynomials.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figure
Models of q-algebra representations: Tensor products of special unitary and oscillator algebras
This paper begins a study of one- and two-variable function space models of irreducible representations of q analogs of Lie enveloping algebras, motivated by recurrence relations satisfied by q-hypergeometric functions. The algebras considered are the quantum algebra Uq(su2) and a q analog of the oscillator algebra (not a quantum algebra). In each case a simple one-variable model of the positive discrete series of finite- and infinite-dimensional irreducible representations is used to compute the ClebschâGordan coefficients. It is shown that various q analogs of the exponential function can be used to mimic the exponential mapping from a Lie algebra to its Lie group and the corresponding matrix elements of the ``group operators'' on these representation spaces are computed. It is shown that the matrix elements are polynomials satisfying orthogonality relations analogous to those holding for true irreducible group representations. It is also demonstrated that general q-hypergeometric functions can occur as basis functions in two-variable models, in contrast with the very restricted parameter values for the q-hypergeometric functions arising as matrix elements in the theory of quantum groups
Models of q-algebra representations: Matrix elements of the q-oscillator algebra
This article continues a study of function space models of irreducible representations of q analogs of Lie enveloping algebras, motivated by recurrence relations satisfied by q-hypergeometric functions. Here a q analog of the oscillator algebra (not a quantum algebra) is considered. It is shown that various q analogs of the exponential function can be used to mimic the exponential mapping from a Lie algebra to its Lie group and the corresponding matrix elements of the ``group operators'' on these representation spaces are computed. This ``local'' approach applies to more general families of special functions, e.g., with complex arguments and parameters, than does the quantum group approach. It is shown that the matrix elements themselves transform irreducibly under the action of the algebra. q analogs of a formula are found for the product of two hypergeometric functions 1F1 and the product of a 1F1 and a Bessel function. They are interpreted here as expansions of the matrix elements of a ``group operator'' (via the exponential mapping) in a tensor product basis (for the tensor product of two irreducible oscillator algebra representations) in terms of the matrix elements in a reduced basis. As a by-product of this analysis an interesting new orthonormal basis was found for a q analog of the BargmannâSegal Hilbert space of entire functions
Second order superintegrable systems in conformally flat spaces. IV. The classical 3D StÀckel transform and 3D classification theory
This article is one of a series that lays the groundwork for a structure and classification theory of second order superintegrable systems, both classical and quantum, in conformally flat spaces. In the first part of the article we study the StÀckel transform (or coupling constant metamorphosis) as an invertible mapping between classical superintegrable systems on different three-dimensional spaces. We show first that all superintegrable systems with nondegenerate potentials are multiseparable and then that each such system on any conformally flat space is StÀckel equivalent to a system on a constant curvature space. In the second part of the article we classify all the superintegrable systems that admit separation in generic coordinates. We find that there are eight families of these systems
The Coulomb-Oscillator Relation on n-Dimensional Spheres and Hyperboloids
In this paper we establish a relation between Coulomb and oscillator systems
on -dimensional spheres and hyperboloids for . We show that, as in
Euclidean space, the quasiradial equation for the dimensional Coulomb
problem coincides with the -dimensional quasiradial oscillator equation on
spheres and hyperboloids. Using the solution of the Schr\"odinger equation for
the oscillator system, we construct the energy spectrum and wave functions for
the Coulomb problem.Comment: 15 pages, LaTe
An infinite family of superintegrable Hamiltonians with reflection in the plane
We introduce a new infinite class of superintegrable quantum systems in the
plane. Their Hamiltonians involve reflection operators. The associated
Schr\"odinger equations admit separation of variables in polar coordinates and
are exactly solvable. The angular part of the wave function is expressed in
terms of little -1 Jacobi polynomials. The spectra exhibit "accidental"
degeneracies. The superintegrability of the model is proved using the
recurrence relation approach. The (higher-order) constants of motion are
constructed and the structure equations of the symmetry algebra obtained.Comment: 19 page
Families of classical subgroup separable superintegrable systems
We describe a method for determining a complete set of integrals for a
classical Hamiltonian that separates in orthogonal subgroup coordinates. As
examples, we use it to determine complete sets of integrals, polynomial in the
momenta, for some families of generalized oscillator and Kepler-Coulomb
systems, hence demonstrating their superintegrability. The latter generalizes
recent results of Verrier and Evans, and Rodriguez, Tempesta and Winternitz.
Another example is given of a superintegrable system on a non-conformally flat
space.Comment: 9 page
