The socio-economic role of crude oil in the United States and Finland

Running a company requires daily assessment of opportunities, risks and trends which involve socio-economic changes and scientific uncertainties. Technical-material resources play a major role in the uncertainty of corporate economics. Overproduction combined with increasing efficiencies have resulted in accelerated use and misuse of resources, accompanied by socio-ecological abuses related to wars and pollution. A significant current threat is global warming. As a result of this global challenge several companies have moved towards a more comprehensive environmental business management model. This is seen in corporate management initiating life cycle assessment and risk analysis of their products. The socio-economic role of crude oil is analyzed as a critical variable in this thesis. Crude oil has played and continues to play a critical role in the development of industrial societies. This variable is linked to human perceptions from different social structures that transcend and give definition to ideas about socio-economic progress and ecology. These cultural, linguistic and physiological differences come into play and are the resources for alternative ideas on how humans should interact with their immediate environment. This is demonstrated via a philosophical model of the U.S. and Finland as followed by an analysis of American and Finnish socio-economic progress in recent history. Conclusions relate to the sustainability of energy utilization through means to increase the efficiencies of economics

Lone Madrone Winery and Bristols Cider

Neil Collins, the award winning wine maker at Tablas Creek and Lone Madrone wineries, is originally from Bristol, England, where he grew up enjoying apple ciders. This case follows his transition from the culinary to wine industry, and how he learned wine making from some the best wine makers in the Central Coast of California to become the head wine maker at an established winery and part owner of his own smaller winery. AR-Laitteiden hyödyntäminen opetuksessa

Tässä kandidaatintutkielmassa on käsitelty, mitä lisätty todellisuus tarkoittaa ja miten lisätty todellisuus eroaa virtuaalitodellisuudesta. Työssä tutkittiin, millaisilla sovelluksilla lisättyä todellisuutta tehdään ja kuinka valitaan tehtävään sopiva ohjelma. Sen jälkeen on tutkittu mahdollisia ongelmia ja haasteita, joita lisätyn todellisuuden kanssa voi olla. Näiden jälkeen käsitellään erilaisia laitteita, joita voidaan käyttää lisätyn todellisuuden kanssa. Seuraavaksi siirryttiin sovelluksiin, joissa hyödynnetään lisättyä todellisuutta ja jotka ovat käytössä opetuksessa. Sovellukset kattavat mittavan listan opetusaloja. Sovellusten toimintaa havainnoitiin tekstimuotoisen selityksen lisäksi kuvilla ja tai kaavioilla. Jo olemassa olevien opetuskäytössä olevien lisättyä todellisuutta hyödyntävien sovellusten jälkeen selostettiin pari esimerkkiä lisätyn todellisuuden sovelluksista, joita voitaisiin mahdollisesti soveltaa opetuskäyttöön. Tutkimusten perusteella saatujen tulosten mukaan, lisätyn todellisuuden hyödyntäminen opetuksessa on kannattavaa. Tulosten mukaan uusien opetusmetodien käyttäminen nostattaa opiskelijoiden innostusta ja mielenkiintoa opiskeluun.This bachelor's thesis has discussed what augmented reality means and how augmented reality differs from virtual reality. It explores what applications are used to create augmented reality and how to choose the right software for the job. It then explored the possible problems and challenges that can arise with augmented reality. This is followed by a discussion of the different types of devices that can be used with augmented reality. Next, we move on to applications that use augmented reality and are used in education. These applications cover an extensive list of educational domains. In addition to textual explanations, the functionality of the applications is illustrated by pictures and or diagrams. After the existing augmented reality applications already in use in education, a few examples of augmented reality applications that could potentially be used in education are described. The results of the studies show that augmented reality in education is a viable option. The results show that the use of new teaching methods increases students' enthusiasm and interest in learning

Osana yhteisöä - Kulttuuriin kuuluvat ja ryhmän hyväksymät : Saamelaismääritelmä saamelaiskäräjien lausunnoissa vuodesta 1996 huhtikuuhun 2018

Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan saamelaiskäräjien kantaa saamelaismääritelmään. Tutkielman alkuperäislähteenä ovat saamelaiskäräjien lausunnot sen toiminnan ajalta vuodesta 1996 huhtikuuhun 2018. Tarkastelun kohteena ovat saamelaiskäräjien kanta, kannassa mahdollisesti tapahtuneet muutokset sekä saamelaiskäräjien käyttämät perustelut. Lisäksi perehdytään saamelaismääritelmästä käytyyn keskusteluun Suomessa sekä siinä tapahtuneisiin muutoksiin. Vertailukohdiksi nostetaan Norjan ja Ruotsin saamelaismääritelmät. Saamelaiskäräjien kanta ja sen käyttämät perustelut ovat pysyneet hyvin samankaltaisina koko sen olemassaolon ajan. Lausunnot heijastelevat saamelaismääritelmän kehityksen vaiheita ja ajankohtaisia aiheita, kuten ILO-sopimusta ja KHO:n linjamuutosta vuonna 2011. Saamelaiskäräjät on johdonmukaisesti vastustanut vuonna 1996 astunutta saamelaismääritelmää ja erityisesti sen lappalaispykälää. Käräjät on vaatinut sen poistamista ja määritelmän palauttamista kieleen perustuvaksi, kuten se oli vuoteen 1996 asti. Saamelaiskäräjät katsoo, että saamelaismääritelmän tulee mahdollisimman hyvin vastata saamelaisten tosiasiallista joukkoa siten, kuten he sen tuntevat. Määritelmän tulee olla saamelaisten hyväksymä ja sen tulee korostaa henkilön säilynyttä suku- ja kulttuuriyhteyttä

: One form of service quality often complained of patients is the waiting time. The waiting time is the time the patient arrives at the emergency room starting from registration to the administration or from the triage process to completion of service in the ER. Waiting can provide an emotional reaction to the patient, such as anxiety. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship with the patient's anxiety waiting time at IGD RSU GMIM Pancaran Kasih Manado. Samples are 40 respondents in the can by using the technique of accidential sampling. Design of descriptive analytic research with cross sectional approach and the data collected from respondents using STAI anxiety questionnaire and observation sheet. Chi square test research results obtained by the significant value of p = 0.011 <0.05. These results indicate that there is a relationship between the waiting time with the anxiety of patients in the Emergency Department RSU GMIM Pancaran Kasih Manado. Recommendations for further research are expected to investigate more about the influence of the first visit in the ER with a patient's anxiety level

The epistemic culture of the OECD and its agenda for higher education

The rise of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as a global actor has been attributed to its capacity to create and redefine the boundaries of knowledge through powerful discursive concepts, such as the idea of a knowledge economy. The organisation's reviews, forecasts and statistics have been perceived as producing multifarious effects within and beyond its member countries while shaping the perceptions of policy alternatives or lack thereof. The shared views and arrangements of knowledge creation within the organisation, from which the organisation produces its artefacts, have nevertheless received minor attention. This article approaches the OECD and its agenda for higher education from the perspective of organisational cultures and knowledge creation within organisations. The article investigates the changes that have taken place in the OECD and its higher education agenda. Moreover, it examines whether any dominant narratives on higher education emerge from the interview data and the OECD reports, and if so, what their differing or opposing narratives are. Lastly, the article aims to understand the dynamics of the changes by analysing whether an epistemic culture exists within the OECD, and if so, what kind of culture it is
