Sequence Analysis of the E3 Region and Fiber Gene of Human Adenovirus Genome Type 7h
AbstractAdenovirus type 7h is currently the predominant virulent genome type of serotype 7 isolated in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay in association with severe infantile pneumonia. In order to characterize possible molecular determinants of pathogenicity, the nucleotide sequence of a 5904-bp fragment (76 to 93 mu) containing the entire E3 region and the fiber gene of Ad7h was established. The organization of the ORFs within the E3 region was similar to that reported for the prototype strains of Ad7 and Ad3. A comparison of the nucleotide and amino acid sequences of all ORFs revealed a higher homology between Ad7h and Ad7p than between Ad7h and Ad3 for 12.0K and 16.1K, whereas the 15.3K ORF and the adjacent fiber gene were strikingly more homologous to those of Ad3 (99.5 vs 81.1% and 98.2 vs 66.6%, respectively). The equivalent to ORF 7.7K in Ad7p was missing in Ad7h due to a deletion and a mutation affecting the start codon (ATG â ATT). Although the hemagglutinin of the Ad7h fiber could not be characterized due to its lack of activity on monkey erythrocytes, our results indicate that Ad7h is an intermediate strain 7-3
Strategies Healthcare Leaders Use to Improve Patient Satisfaction
For all healthcare leaders, patient satisfaction plays a key role in healthcare; poor patient satisfaction within healthcare organizations can lead to poor patient health outcomes, decreased revenue, and poor employee engagement. Grounded in Mayeroffâs theory of caring, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies healthcare leaders use to improve patient satisfaction. The participants consisted of five healthcare leaders in metropolitan Detroit, Michigan, who implemented strategies that improved patient satisfaction. Data was collected using semistructured interviews, archival document review, and data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare database. Yinâs five-step process was used to analyze data. Four themes emerged: caring for patients through communication, patient-centered care, compliance through CMS patient satisfaction processes, and leadership. A key recommendation for healthcare leaders is to create an environment built on communication amongst staff, patients, and their family members, ensuring that everyone involved in the patientsâ care understands the expectations of the patientsâ outcome. Implications for positive social change include potentially improving patient care experiences through communication and education by healthcare leaders and healthcare workers, resulting in improved health outcomes within the local communities in metropolitan Detroit, Michigan
An Oven Like a Snake
In this article some Jewish sources are taken into consideration in order to outline on one side a conflict, on the other a connection between truth and interpretation, prophecy and hermeneutics. These sources are the story of the akhnaiâs oven (Talmud Bavli, Bava Metzia 59 a-b), Maimonidesâ Guide of the perplexed, Moses Mendelssohnâs Jerusalem, Hermann Cohenâs opus postumum, Emmanuel Levinasâ philosophical and Jewish writings. Through the analysis of these texts, belonging to Judaism and Jewish thought, about the problem of the relationship between the unity of truth and the plurality of opinions, the unconditional and the historical, the transcendent God and human activity within time, the article intends to point out a paradigm which could give suggestions to the discussion on the possibility of a critical hermeneutics.
