The Discovery of Soft X-ray Loud Broad Absorption Line Quasars
It is been known for more than a decade that BALQSOs (broad absorption line
quasars) are highly attenuated in the X-ray regime compared to other quasars,
especially in the soft band ( 1 keV). Using X-ray selection techniques we
have found "soft X-ray loud" BALQSOs that, by definition, have soft X-ray (0.3
keV) to UV () flux density ratios that are higher than typical nonBAL
radio quiet quasars. Our sample of 3 sources includes one LoBALQSO (low
ionization BALQSO) which are generally considered to be the most highly
attenuated in the X-rays. The three QSOs are the only known BALQSOs that have
X-ray observations that are consistent with no intrinsic soft X-ray absorption.
The existence of a large X-ray luminosity and the hard ionizing continuum that
it presents to potential UV absorption gas is in conflict with the ionization
states that are conducive to line driving forces within BAL winds (especially
for the LoBALs).Comment: To appear in ApJ Letter
Implementation of a block Lanczos algorithm for Eigenproblem solution of gyroscopic systems
The details of implementation of a general numerical procedure developed for the accurate and economical computation of natural frequencies and associated modes of any elastic structure rotating along an arbitrary axis are described. A block version of the Lanczos algorithm is derived for the solution that fully exploits associated matrix sparsity and employs only real numbers in all relevant computations. It is also capable of determining multiple roots and proves to be most efficient when compared to other, similar, exisiting techniques
STARS: An integrated general-purpose finite element structural, aeroelastic, and aeroservoelastic analysis computer program
The details of an integrated general-purpose finite element structural analysis computer program which is also capable of solving complex multidisciplinary problems is presented. Thus, the SOLIDS module of the program possesses an extensive finite element library suitable for modeling most practical problems and is capable of solving statics, vibration, buckling, and dynamic response problems of complex structures, including spinning ones. The aerodynamic module, AERO, enables computation of unsteady aerodynamic forces for both subsonic and supersonic flow for subsequent flutter and divergence analysis of the structure. The associated aeroservoelastic analysis module, ASE, effects aero-structural-control stability analysis yielding frequency responses as well as damping characteristics of the structure. The program is written in standard FORTRAN to run on a wide variety of computers. Extensive graphics, preprocessing, and postprocessing routines are also available pertaining to a number of terminals
Clean Technology : Limit and Limitation
The limiting of pollutant emissions from COREX and Romelt processes, non-recovery coke ovens and coke less cupola have been calculated using equilibrium analysis. The results show that main pollutants present after full utilization of the exit gases from all the processes are sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide. The former is dependent on the volatile sulfur present in the fuel and later depends on temperature of combustion and amount of air used for combustion. Lowering of combustion temperature and closer control of combustion can reduce NO load signi-cantly
Role of low dose Magnesium sulphate in eclampsia
Background: Eclampsia is one of the challenging medical complications seen during pregnancy. With the use of magnesium sulphate for control of convulsion in eclampsia, it can be managed effectively. Methods: This is a prospective study done in a tertiary care hospital. Considering low body mass index of patients of developing area, authors had used low dose regime of magnesium sulphate. 100 patients had been enrolled for low dose magnesium sulphate regime after categorizing patients as per inclusion and exclusion criteria. The primary outcome to be measured was recurrence of fits in any patients who received low dose magnesium sulphate. The secondary outcome measured were development of any toxicity, level of serum magnesium level, maternal and perinatal outcome. Results: It was observed that 93% of the patients responded to low dose regime. 7% developed recurrence of fits for that additional dose of 2 gram of 20% magnesium sulphate was given to the patients. Not even a single patient developed signs of toxicity. 94% and 95% of the patients acquired therapeutic level of serum magnesium at 4 hours and 10 hours of magnesium sulphate administration, respectively. Maternal mortality was 5% and perinatal mortality was 24.4%.Conclusions: Low dose of magnesium sulphate can prevent and treat eclampsia. Low dose regimen also reduces incidence of toxicity with improved maternal and perinatal outcome
Discovery of a 3.6-hr Eclipsing Luminous X-Ray Binary in the Galaxy NGC 4214
We report the discovery of an eclipsing X-ray binary with a 3.62-hr period
within 24" of the center of the dwarf starburst galaxy NGC 4214. The orbital
period places interesting constraints on the nature of the binary, and allows
for a few very different interpretations. The most likely possibility is that
the source lies within NGC 4214 and has an X-ray luminosity of up to 7 e38
ergs/s. In this case the binary may well be comprised of a naked He-burning
donor star with a neutron-star accretor, though a stellar-mass black-hole
accretor cannot be completely excluded. There is no obvious evidence for a
strong stellar wind in the X-ray orbital light curve that would be expected
from a massive He star; thus, the mass of the He star should be <3-4 solar
masses. If correct, this would represent a new class of very luminous X-ray
binary -- perhaps related to Cyg X-3. Other less likely possibilities include a
conventional low-mass X-ray binary that somehow manages to produce such a high
X-ray luminosity and is apparently persistent over an interval of years; or a
foreground AM Her binary of much lower luminosity that fortuitously lies in the
direction of NGC 4214. Any model for this system must accommodate the lack of
an optical counterpart down to a limiting magnitude of 22.6 in the visible.Comment: 7 pages, ApJ accepted versio
CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME WITH MODERN AND AYURVEDA POINT OF VIEW
Pre menstrual syndrome (PMS) is distressing psychological, physical and/ or behavioural symptoms. It occurs during the luteal phase of menstrual cycle. The significant regression of symptoms comes with onset of or during the period. PMS can also be defined as a combination of emotional, physical and psychological disturbances. It occurs after a woman’s ovulation, which gets end with onset of her menstrual flow. Here, in this review a detailed explanation about its etiology, symptoms, signs, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and its treatment are being described. Ayurveda points of view regarding PMS are also being described. Premenstrual syndrome can be probably correlated with Rituvyatita Kalaja Pitta Vata Vriddhi. As Vata dosha plays important role in aggravating the other Doshas as well. Vata Dosha imbalance causes the imbalance state of other Doshas causing premenstrual syndrome. Vata in association with Pitta and Kapha simultaneously vitiates Manodosha and Rasadhatu. Mithyahar vihar is the Samanya nidana for this syndrome

TOTAL FLAVONOID QUANTIFICATION AND TO STUDY ANTIBACTERIAL POTENCY OF EXTRACTS OF BUTEA MONOSPERMA FLOWERS, NIGELLA SATIVA SEEDS AND VITEX AGNUS CASTUS LEAVES
Objective: An attempt has been made to develop a method for quantitative estimation of flavonoids in the crude extract of Butea monosperma flowers, Nigella sativa seeds and Vitex agnus castus leaves. Antibacterial activity is attributed to various phytochemicals present in these plants. Methods: The amount of total flavonoids was analysed using aluminium chloride colorimetric assay using rutin as standard. Plants studied were subjected to hydromethanolic extraction by using soxhlet apparatus. Flavonoids in extracts were quantified by U. V at a wavelength of 415 nm Antibacterial activities of extracts were evaluated on various bacterias like E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, S. pneumonie, P. acne. The in vitro antibacterial activities of these extracts were compared against standard drugs such as gentamycin, ampicillin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin. Results: Flavonoid content in the crude extract of Butea monosperma flowers, Nigella sativa seeds and Vitex agnus castus leaves was found to be 2.58 %w/w, 0.92% w/w and 1.6 % w/w respectively. The antibacterial study found that activity of Vitex extract against P. acne was better than the standard drugsConclusion: In the present study an attempt has been made to standardize the plant material in terms of its flavonoid content and the study indicated that this extract individually or in combination with other herbal drugs can be useful in treating diseases caused by the organisms mentioned above
