An End-to-End Big Data Analytics Platform for IoT-enabled Smart Factories: A Case Study of Battery Module Assembly System for Electric Vehicles
Within the concept of factories of the future, big data analytics systems play a critical role in supporting decision-making at various stages across enterprise processes. However, the design and deployment of industry-ready, lightweight, modular, flexible, and low-cost big data analytics solutions remains one of the main challenges towards the Industry 4.0 enabled digital transformation. This paper presents an end-to-end IoT-based big data analytics platform that consists of five interconnected layers and several components for data acquisition, integration, storage, analytics and visualisation purposes. The platform architecture benefits from state-of-the-art technologies and integrates them in a systematic and interoperable way with clear information flows. The developed platform has been deployed in an Electric Vehicle (EV) battery module smart assembly automation system designed by the Automation Systems Group (ASG) at the University of Warwick, UK. The developed proof-of-concept solution demonstrates how a wide variety of tools and methods can be orchestrated to work together aiming to support decision-making and to improve both process and product qualities in smart manufacturing environments
Determination of the Protonation Constants of Some 4-(Substituted benzylamino)-4,5-dihydro- 1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones by the Potentiometric Method in EthanolâWater Mixtures
To gain more information about the effect of solvent on 4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones, the stoichiometric protonation constants of thirteen triazoles in ethanolâwater mixtures were determined at an ionic strength of 0.10MNaCl and at 25.0±0.1 °C under nitrogen atmosphere. A potentiometric method was used and the calculation was carried out using the PKAS computer program. The correspondingpKa values of these triazoles were determined in ethanolâwater mixtures. Thus, the effects of solvent and molecular structure upon acidity were investigated. The logarithm of the protonation constants of the title 4,5-dihydro- 1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones decreased linearly with increasing ethanol content, but the values determined with 80% ethanol did not follow this linear trend. The variation of these constants is discussed on the basis of specific soluteâsolvent interactions.KEYWORDS: Potentiometry, protonation constants, solvent effect, triazoles
Pulling for pleasure? Erotic approach-bias associated with porn use, not problems
Background and Objectives: Addictive behaviors are gaining recognition in the clinical community, leading to more attention for the effects of problematic porn use. As many addictive behaviors are characterized by automatically activated approach-tendencies for disorder-relevant stimuli, we tested whether such tendencies are also present for erotic images and whether these are related to problematic porn use.
Methods: Measuring approach-bias for erotic photographs, sixty-two healthy heterosexual and bisexual men completed both a relevant-feature and an irrelevant-feature approach-avoidance task (AAT). Half of participants operated a joystick as response device, the other half a keyboard. We recorded participantsâ number of weekly porn-viewing sessions and symptoms of problematic porn use.
Results: The irrelevant-feature AAT produced unreliable results and was not analyzed further. In the relevant-feature AAT, participants had an overall approach-bias towards erotic stimuli. Porn use frequency, but not problematic porn use, was associated with with greater erotic approach-bias. This relationship was stronger when measured with a joystick than with a keyboard.
Limitations: Our design did not allow to test the causal direction of the relationship between porn use and approach-bias, and our results cannot be generalized to women, non-heterosexual men, and clinical populations.
Conclusions: Similar to other addictive behaviors and substances, we found a positive relation between porn use and approach-bias. Future studies using the relevant-feature AAT will likely benefit from using the joystick rather than the keyboard.Sercan Kahveci was supported by the Doctoral College "Imaging the Mind" (FWF; W1233-B)
Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Some 1H-1,2,4-Triazol-3-one Derivatives
4-Amino-5-(methyl/ethyl)-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one were synthesized from the reaction of (methyl/ethyl)-ester ethoxycarbonyl hydrazone with hydrazine hydrate and then, converted to corresponding Schiff bases using 9H-fluorene- 3-carbaldehyde. Ester, hydrazide and oxadiazole derivatives were synthesized starting from Schiff bases in three steps. All reactions occurred under conventional conditions and microwave irradiation. The obtained results were compared.KEYWORDS Triazole, oxadiazole, hydrazine hydrate, microwave irradiation
Anomalous Magnetic Ordering in PrBaâCuâOâ and CmBaâCuâOâ
A review of temperature-dependent magnetization data for nonsuperconducting PrBa2Cu4O8 and CmBa2Cu3O7 suggests that the failure of each to superconduct is related to the presence of Pr and Cm on their respective Ba sites. This defect is manifested, in each case, by short c-axis lattice parameters and anomalous high-temperature magnetic ordering which has been incorrectly attributed to ordering of the entire magnetic sublattice. Instead, it is shown that the anomalous high-temperature ordering as seen in the magnetization data is consistent with the ordering of magnetic ions substituted on the Ba site
Integrating social features into mobile local search
As availability of Internet access on mobile devices develops year after year, users have been able to make use of search services while on the go. Location information on these devices has enabled mobile users to use local search services to access various types of location-related information easily. Mobile local search is inherently different from general web search. Namely, it focuses on local businesses and points of interest instead of general web pages, and finds relevant search results by evaluating different ranking features. It also strongly depends on several contextual factors, such as time, weather, location etc. In previous studies, rankings and mobile user context have been investigated with a small set of features. We developed a mobile local search application, Gezinio, and collected a data set of local search queries with novice social features. We also built ranking models to re-rank search results. We reveal that social features can improve performance of the machine-learned ranking models with respect to a baseline that solely ranks the results based on their distance to user. Furthermore, we find out that a feature that is important for ranking results of a certain query category may not be so useful for other categories. © 2016 Elsevier Inc
Pyramiding multiple genes for resistance to PVY, TSWV and PMMoV in pepper using molecular markers
Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the most important vegetables cultivated worldwide. Many pests and pathogens cause economic yield losses in pepper. Potato virus Y (PVY), Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) and Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) are considered among the most destructive viruses affecting pepper in the world. Because chemical treatments have limited success for managing PVY, TSWV and PMMoV, resistant varieties are considered to be the most effective means of controlling these viruses. In this study, resistance genes to these viruses were successfully transferred to the superior sweet Charleston pepper line 'Y-CAR' using molecular markers and biological assays. As a result, a new line which is resistant to PVY, TSWV and PMMoV was developed. The results also showed the applicability of a pyramiding strategy for breeding multiple virus resistance in pepper. © Verlag Eugen Ulmer KG, Stuttgart.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, TEYDEP foundation (3080171
Structural and Magnetic Properties of Laâ.âSrâ.âMnâââNiâOâ (x †0.4)
We have studied the structural and magnetic properties of La0.7Sr0.3Mn1-xNixO3 (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.20, 0.30, and 0.40) perovskites using x-ray and neutron diffraction and magnetic measurements. Our data consist of neutron (Îł = 1.479Ă
) and x-ray (Îł = 1.5481Ă
; Cu Kα) powder diffraction and magnetization measurements. We previously suggested these systems transition from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic ordering with the intermediate concentrations containing coexisting domains of ferromagnetically and antiferromagnetically ordered states. Upon further detailed examination, we find that the samples are homogeneous and that neutron data can be fitted to a single long-range magnetically ordered state. The compositional dependent changes are driven by a shift in the dominant near neighbor interaction from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic. In the intermediate compositions, peaks previously identified as due to antiferromagnetic ordering, in fact arise from charge ordering; the system remains in a ferromagnetic state where the Ni moments are antiparallel to the Mn moments. This interpretation supersedes multiphase and spin glass models for these complex systems
