DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: A HISTORIC AND SOCIO-CULTURAL REALITY IN BANGLADESH

Domestic violence against women is prevalent throughout the world in different forms even in this twenty first century. Though the view towards domestic violence varies across the countries the World Bank has already spotted it as a global epidemic. Domestic violence, whether in urban or rural areas, puts women community at vulnerable position as it causes both physical and psychological grievances. Several forms of domestic violence including physical, psychological, sexual and economical violence have been illustrated by different organizations worldwide. In Bangladesh, the patriarchal capitalism puts women in such a position that they always remain subservient under mail domination and in many cases this is reflected through violence against them. This was criminalized in Bangladesh in 2010. But the laws are not enough alone to protect the women from sufferings. Strategies should be taken to raise the awareness among the general population along with effective implementation of the law. This paper depicts an overview on domestic violence against women from socio-cultural and legal perspective emphasizing especially over the situation in Bangladesh

A Chain Oriented Data Collection Protocol for Energy-Aware and Delay-Constrained WSN

Energy awareness plays an important role in developing routing protocol for the battery powered wireless sensor networks. As the replacement of the battery is often unfeasible in practical situations, we present here an optimal solution for the maximum utilization of precious available energy at the same time trying to minimize the latency in data delivery. We propose to form hierarchical chains with deployed sensors to collect information from a target field where data get fused at every node level before transmitted finally. Our protocol utilizes the higher energy nodes for more frequent long distance transmissions so that the energy expenditure become even between all nodes in the network irrespective of their physical locations. It has been found in our simulation that this protocol outperforms other hierarchical protocols like LEACH and PEGASIS in both the cases of energy consumption and time requirements respectively. It has been also found that the overall lifetime of the sensor network also increases in our protocol

Correlation of electrical properties and acoustic loss in single crystalline lithium niobate-tantalate solid solutions at elevated temperatures

Electrical conductivity and acoustic loss Q−1 of single crystalline Li(Nb,Ta)O3 solid solutions (LNT) are studied as a function of temperature by means of impedance spectroscopy and resonant piezoelectric spectroscopy, respectively. For this purpose, bulk acoustic wave resonators with two different Nb/Ta ratios are investigated. The obtained results are compared to those previously reported for congruent LiNbO3. The temperature dependent electrical conductivity of LNT and LiNbO3 show similar behavior in air at high temperatures from 400 to 700 °C. Therefore, it is concluded that the dominant transport mechanism in LNT is the same as in LN, which is the Li transport via Li vacancies. Further, it is shown that losses in LNT strongly increase above about 500 °C, which is interpreted to originate from conductivity-related relaxation mechanism. Finally, it is shown that LNT bulk acoustic resonators exhibit significantly lower loss, comparing to that of LiNbO3

ASPER: Attention-based Approach to Extract Syntactic Patterns denoting Semantic Relations in Sentential Context

Semantic relationships, such as hyponym-hypernym, cause-effect, meronym-holonym etc., between a pair of entities in a sentence are usually reflected through syntactic patterns. Automatic extraction of such patterns benefits several downstream tasks, including, entity extraction, ontology building, and question answering. Unfortunately, automatic extraction of such patterns has not yet received much attention from NLP and information retrieval researchers. In this work, we propose an attentionbased supervised deep learning model, ASPER, which extracts syntactic patterns between entities exhibiting a given semantic relation in the sentential context. We validate the performance of ASPER on three distinct semantic relations—hyponym-hypernym, cause-effect, and meronym-holonym on six datasets. Experimental results show that for all these semantic relations, ASPER can automatically identify a collection of syntactic patterns reflecting the existence of such a relation between a pair of entities in a sentence. In comparison to the existing methodologies of syntactic pattern extraction, ASPER’s performance is substantially superior
