    Antibacterial activity of Chitosan Nanoparticles against sea food pathogens

    The present study was designed to investigate antibacterial activity of chitosan nanoparticles against sea food pathogens. Chitosan is an interesting polymer that has been used extensively in the medical field. It is either partially or fully deacetylated chitin. It is a good antibacterial and antifungal agent. Chitosan is synthesized by STPP method and its active range is evaluated by uv-vis spectroscopy. Then its antibacterial is tested against isolated Vibrio and also tested the antibacterial activity of chloramphenicol against the isolated species for knowing the strength of the strain. Chitosan is a good antibacterial agent that killed Vibrio around its active sites. But, chloramphenicol is a weak antibacterial agent than chitosan

    Ameoblastic carcinoma of mandible: a rare case report with review of literature

    Ameloblastic carcinoma is a rare malignant lesion with characteristic histologic features and behavior that dictates more aggressive surgical approach than that of a simple ameloblastoma. However, reliable evidence of its biologic activity is currently unavailable due to the scarcity of well-documented cases. It occurs primarily in the mandible in a wide range of age groups; no sex or race predilection has been noted. It may present as a cystic lesion with benign clinical features or as a large tissue mass with ulceration, significant bone resorption and tooth mobility. Because the lesion is usually found unexpectedly after an incisional biopsy or the removal of a cyst, a guide to differential diagnosis is not usually useful. The identifying features of ameloblastic carcinoma must be known and recognized by dental practitioners. The tumour cells resemble the cells seen in ameloblastoma, but they show cytologic atypia. Moreover, they lack the characteristic arrangement seen in ameloblastoma. Direct extensions of the tumour, lymph node involvement and metastasis to various sites (frequently the lung) have been reported.     Sundarbans mangrove deltaic system – An overview of its biodiversity with special reference to fish diversity

    World heritage site-Sundarbans were declared as the world’s 560th Ramsar Wetlands site in 1992. Sundarbans ecosystem supports rich fisheries diversity and also natural biodiversity hot spot, because it is natural habitat of many endangered species. The Sundarbans is a home to a variety of faunal species, the total of 1586 species has been recorded which includes 481 Vertebrate species (30%), 1104 Invertebrate species (70%). Mangroves are the nursery and breeding grounds for several commercially important species of aquatic fauna like fish, shrimps and prawns etc. Mangrove ecosystems are of great ecological significance in the tropical and sub-tropical coast. Sundarbans mangrove provides a variety of ecosystem services. However, the Sundarban mangrove forest is the most threatened habitats in the world, increased population with few alternative livelihood opportunities poses a serious threat as it is the main cause of mangrove destruction. The total value of Sundarbans is not recognized and therefore often neglected in development planning. As a result Sundarbans conservation issue is getting less importance at the national level. The study reveals that major ecosystem services of Sundarbans are timber, fuel wood, fish, ecotourism, cyclone and storm protection, biodiversity, and habitat for flora and fauna. Timber, fuel wood and fish are more economical provisioning services in Sundarbans. It is noticed that there is decreasing tendency of overall revenue collection from the mangrove over the period of 2001-02 to 2009-10. The attention from national and international communities is needed for sustainable management and conservation of the Sundarbans. The study suggests that further research on total economic value of Sundarbans is needed for providing comprehensive scientific information for policy as well as for decision makers

    Fate of sulphate removed during the treatment of circumneutral mine water and acid mine drainage with coal fly ash: Modelling and experimental approach

    The treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD) and circumneutral mine water (CMW) with South African coal fly ash (FA) provides a low cost and alternative technique for treating mine wastes waters. The sulphate concentration in AMD can be reduced significantly when AMD was treated with the FA to pH 9. On the other hand an insignificant amount of sulphate was removed when CMW (containing a very low concentration of Fe and Al) was treated using FA to pH 9. The levels of Fe and Al, and the final solution pH in the AMD–fly ash mixture played a significant role on the level of sulphate removal in contrast to CMW–fly ash mixtures. In this study, a modelling approach using PHREEQC geochemical modelling software was combined with AMD–fly ash and/or CMW–fly ash neutralization experiments in order to predict the mineral phases involved in sulphate removal. The effects of solution pH and Fe and Al concentration in mine water on sulphate were also investigated. The results obtained showed that sulphate, Fe, Al, Mg and Mn removal from AMD and/or CMW with fly ash is a function of solution pH. The presence of Fe and Al in AMD exhibited buffering characteristic leading to more lime leaching from FA into mine water, hence increasing the concentration of Ca2+. This resulted in increased removal of sulphate as CaSO4·2H2O. In addition the sulphate removal was enhanced through the precipitation as Fe and Al oxyhydroxysulphates (as shown by geochemical modelling) in AMD–fly ash system. The low concentration of Fe and Al in CMW resulted in sulphate removal depending mainly on CaSO4·2H2O.     Approximate Multiplier based on Low power and reduced latency with Modified LSB design

    The devised approximation multiplier can adapt the precision and processing power needed formul triplication sat run-time based on the needs of the user. To decrease error distance, we also suggest a straight forward error compensation circuit. There are two types of approximate multi pliers. Dynamic voltages caling can be used for the first kind, which controls the timing route of the multiplier. If the voltage is lower, the critical path will take longer to complete. As a result, when the time path is violated, errors occurs and approximated results are produced. These cond types involves redesigning precise multiplier circuits like the Wallace Tree Multiplier and Dadda Tree Multiplier in order to change the functional behaviors of multipliers. Most of the earlier research on rebuilding multipliers suggested erroneous m-n compressors, which have m inputs and producen outputs. It dynamically reduces the area covered under the multiplier LSB which enables the MSB in accurate manner and LSB in approximate manner. This convolution al system approach is regarded to sequential cover up more than 32 bit multiplier. Since the accompanied circuit reduce then tire area by10times lesser than original multiplier, this conventional unit is regarded as abled circuit in the segment. Since the process of compressing partial products absorbed the majority of the multiplier energy and resulted in a consider able route delay, these incorrect compressors were utilized to compress the partial products within multiplication.     Experimental studies on thermal protective coating for low pressure gas turbine blades

    Paper presented at the 9th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Malta, 16-18 July, 2012.The thermal barrier coatings have many potential applications in the protection of gas turbine engine components, essentially the turbine blades. In this study micro analysis was carried out on Yitria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coated turbine blades and the results are compared with the uncoated blades. We have used the atmosphere plasma sprayed thermal barrier coating with a thickness of 0.25 mm to withstand the high temperature of about 2000° C. A significant conclusion of the present study is that an increase in thermal coating thickness of 0.25 mm can ensure 50 % increase in the surface temperature of the turbine blades leading to a better thrust performance.dc201
