The FONAC catalogue as a result of the FON project

    No full text
The technique for constructing the first version of the astrographic catalogue FONAC 1.0 based on the measurements of the FON project plates (the Golosiiv overlapping the northern sky) and the Astrographic Catalogue (Carte du Ciel) data is described briefly. The procedure of plate measurements with the PARSEC measuring machine as well as the methods of their reduction are considered. The results of comparing the FONAC 1.0 with other astrometric catalogues as well as description of the second version of the catalogue FONAC 2.0 are given. Value of the FONAC catalogue series on a background of the Post-Hipparcos astrometry is discussed

Theoretical approach to electrodiffusion of shallow donors in semiconductors: I. Stationary limit

    No full text
Analysis is made for the possibility of redistribution of mobile point defects in a semiconductor after its exposure to the electric field till the stationary conditions in the crystal are reached. Two different ways of applying the voltage are considered: (i) directly to the sample, (ii) to a capacitor, with the sample located between the plates. This model is applicable also to the electric field of any nature, whether external or internal, e.g. that arisning at the metal-semiconductor interface. HD 69686: A Mysterious High Velocity B Star

We report on the discovery of a high velocity B star, HD 69686. We estimate its space velocity, distance, surface temperature, gravity, and age. With these data, we are able to reconstruct the trajectory of the star and to trace it back to its birthplace. We use evolutionary tracks for single stars to estimate that HD 69686 was born 73 Myr ago in the outer part of our Galaxy (r12r \sim 12 kpc) at a position well below the Galactic plane (z1.8z \sim -1.8 kpc), a very unusual birthplace for a B star. Along the star's projected path in the sky, we also find about 12 other stars having similar proper motions, and their photometry data suggest that they are located at the same distance as HD 69686 and probably have the same age. We speculate on the origin of this group by star formation in a high velocity cloud or as a Galactic merger fragment.Comment: 28 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in Ap

Conductance relaxation in Langmuir-Blodgett manganese phthalocyanine (PcMn) films in inhomogeneous electrical field

    No full text
The conductance relaxation of Langmuir-Blodgett films of manganese phthalocyanine in inhomogeneous electrical field was studied. Inhomogeneous electrical field was achieved by using the lateral surface of reverse-biased Si p-n junction. The conductance of new film increases up to saturation with the characteristic time about 10 hours. After that the film has been kept in air for a long time (about 50 days), on application of the back bias the conductance slowly decreased with the characteristic time more than 10 hours. These properties are associated with appearance or disappearance of the bonds between molecular stacks in the film

Low-frequency magnetic sensing by magnetoelectric metglas/bidomain LiNbO3 long bars

We present an investigation into the magnetic sensing performance of magnetoelectric bilayered metglas / bidomain LiNbO3 long thin bars operating in a cantilever or free vibrating regime and under quasi-static and low-frequency resonant conditions. Bidomain single crystals of Y+128o-cut LiNbO3 were engineered by an improved diffusion annealing technique with a polarization macrodomain structure of the “head-to-head” and “tail-to-tail” type. Long composite bars with lengths of 30, 40 and 45 mm, as well as with and without attached small tip proof masses, were studied. ME coefficients as large as 550 V/cm∙Oe, corresponding to a conversion ratio of 27.5 V/Oe, were obtained under resonance conditions at frequencies of the order of 100 Hz in magnetic bias fields as low as 2 Oe. Equivalent magnetic noise spectral densities down to 120 pT/Hz1/2 at 10 Hz and to 68 pT/Hz1/2 at a resonance frequency as low as 81 Hz were obtained for the 45 mm long cantilever bar with a tip proof mass of 1.2 g. In the same composite without any added mass the magnetic noise was shown to be as low as 37 pT/Hz1/2 at a resonance frequency of 244 Hz and 1.2 pT/Hz1/2 at 1335 Hz in a fixed cantilever and free vibrating regimes, respectively. A simple unidimensional dynamic model predicted the possibility to drop the low-frequency magnetic noise by more than one order of magnitude in case all the extrinsic noise sources are suppressed, especially those related to external vibrations, and the thickness ratio of the magnetic-to-piezoelectric phases is optimized. Thus, we have shown that such systems might find use in simple and sensitive room-temperature low-frequency magnetic sensors, e.g., for biomedical applications.publishe
