The title compound, C12H12N2O2, crystallized in the monolinic space group P21/n, with two independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. This is in contrast to the first monoclinic polymorph reported [Cingolani et al. (2002 ▶). Inorg. Chem. 41, 1151–116], which crystallized in the space group C2/c with one independent molecule per asymmetric unit. The dihedral angles between the two rings differ slightly; in molecule A it is 4.90 (11)° and in molecule B it is 16.05 (13)°. In both molecules, there is an intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bond involving the hydroxyl substituent and the carbonyl O atom of the adjacent acetyl group. In the crystal structure, molecules A and B are linked via a C—H⋯N interaction. There are also some weak C—H⋯π interactions involving the phenyl ring of molecule A and H atoms of the acetyl groups of both molecules

The title compound, C12H9NO2S, belongs to the nitrogen-containing group of heterocyclic organic compounds and crystallized with two molecules per asymmetric unit. In the crystal, both molecules form inversion dimers linked by pairs of O—H—O hydrogen bonds. Weak symmetry-related C—H—O interactions link the carboxyl dimers along b axis. The dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings in the two molecules are 55.75 (14) and 58.33 (13)°

Objective: To evaluate the outcome of carpal tunnel decompression in Carpal tunnel syndrome. Study Design: Prospective and retrospective observational study. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted at the Department of Neurosurgery, PGMI / AMC / Lahore General Hospital, Lahore, during the period of 4 years from Jan. 2009 to Jan. 2013. All patients with symptoms and signs of carpal tunnel syndrome and with positive nerve conduction study were included in our study. Exclusion criteria was those unfit for surgery such as patients on warfarin and patient with mild symptoms treated with wrist splint and oral analgesic, diabetic, hypothyroid patient, patients in which nerve conduction study points to radiculopathy and patients with history of trauma with carpal bone fracture were excluded from study. Prospective clinical data collected included patient reported outcome measures and satisfaction scores, touch threshold, pinch and grip strength. Patients were assessed clinically, underwent nerve conduction studies and surgery as indicated. Baseline and one – year follow-up data were analysed for 57 patients (62 hands). Results: A total of 57 patients (62 hands) treated with surgery between Jan 2009 and Jan 2013 agreed to participate in the study. Complete data at baseline and 1 year were available for 57 patients (62 hands). There was significant improvement in all domains of the Boston Carpal Tunnel and Michigan Hand Outcomes questionnaires, grip strength and touch threshold. There were no adverse events. Eight patients (14%) requested advice on scar management or had queries regarding the duration of post-operative recovery of sensation and function. The total mean operating time was 12.8 minutes (range: 5–15 minutes) and the mean tourniquet time was 2.5 minutes (range: 1–11 minutes). Patient satisfaction as judged using a Picker questionnaire was very high. Conclusions: A highly efficient clinical service involving both diagnostics and treatment can be delivered through minimum hospital visit and day care surgery while maintaining optimal outcomes and high patient satisfaction

In the molecule of the title compound, C12H6N2O3S, the central heterocyclic ring is oriented at dihedral angles of 3.25 (6) and 2.28 (7)° with respect to the benzene and pyridine rings, respectively. The dihedral angle between the benzene and pyridine rings is 5.53 (7)°. In the crystal structure, intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into chains

PANC Study (Pancreatitis: A National Cohort Study): national cohort study examining the first 30 days from presentation of acute pancreatitis in the UK

Abstract Background Acute pancreatitis is a common, yet complex, emergency surgical presentation. Multiple guidelines exist and management can vary significantly. The aim of this first UK, multicentre, prospective cohort study was to assess the variation in management of acute pancreatitis to guide resource planning and optimize treatment. Methods All patients aged greater than or equal to 18 years presenting with acute pancreatitis, as per the Atlanta criteria, from March to April 2021 were eligible for inclusion and followed up for 30 days. Anonymized data were uploaded to a secure electronic database in line with local governance approvals. Results A total of 113 hospitals contributed data on 2580 patients, with an equal sex distribution and a mean age of 57 years. The aetiology was gallstones in 50.6 per cent, with idiopathic the next most common (22.4 per cent). In addition to the 7.6 per cent with a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis, 20.1 per cent of patients had a previous episode of acute pancreatitis. One in 20 patients were classed as having severe pancreatitis, as per the Atlanta criteria. The overall mortality rate was 2.3 per cent at 30 days, but rose to one in three in the severe group. Predictors of death included male sex, increased age, and frailty; previous acute pancreatitis and gallstones as aetiologies were protective. Smoking status and body mass index did not affect death. Conclusion Most patients presenting with acute pancreatitis have a mild, self-limiting disease. Rates of patients with idiopathic pancreatitis are high. Recurrent attacks of pancreatitis are common, but are likely to have reduced risk of death on subsequent admissions. </jats:sec

Do Environmental Transformational Leadership Predicts Organizational Citizenship Behavior towards Environment in Hospitality Industry: Using Structural Equation Modelling Approach

Voluntary pro-environmental behaviors in the workplace such as organizational citizenship behavior towards environment (OCBE) are pertinent for the organizations striving to become environmentally responsible entities. The significance of OCBE for green organizational initiatives has led scholars to strive for expanding its nomological network. Approaching from the theoretical angle of the social information processing approach, this quantitative, survey-based study theoretically links and empirically tests the impact of environmental transformational leadership on organizational citizenship behavior towards environment (OCBE) via mediating mechanism of perceived meaningful work. Data from a sample of 311 employees working in Pakistan’s hospitality sector were collected and analyzed to test the hypothesized relationships using structural equation modelling. Results indicated the indirect effect of perceived meaningful work on the relationship between environmental transformational leadership and organizational citizenship behavior towards environment. Implications of both theoretical and practical nature are laid out in the relevant sections of the paper

A fractional approach to solar heating model using extended ODE system

    No full text
In contrast to fossil fuels, the sun has more than enough energy to supply the entire world's energy needs. The sole constraint on solar energy as a renewable resource is our capacity to efficiently and economically convert it to electricity. In this work, we take advantage of the fractional derivative, we introduce the dynamics of the solar heating model. We incorporated the Atangana-Baleanu derivative (ABC) in our analysis. Then the solutions of our fractional system are investigated for existence and uniqueness. In order to visualize the fractional order model solution, we used a novel and trendy numerical method to represent the dynamics of different parameters of the nonlinear ordinary differential equation system. It is shown that the proposed ODE models are valid and efficient for fractional order data for a functioning solar heating system
