Exploring the Managerial Dynamics in a Turbulent Context: The Reaction of SMEsâ Leaders
Small and medium enterprises constitute the bulk of the Lebanese economic fabric. Over the past decades, the managers of these SMEs have played a pivotal role in the survival of their businesses. This research aims at understanding how these managers manage to survive in a turbulent context marked by perpetual changes that are almost constantly renewing themselves, by showing how, in such an environment, they manage to mobilize resources and skills and deploy dynamic capacities in order to develop efficient and sustainable practices. The results of qualitative research of the exploratory type are intended to present researchers with a "reaction model" that, in a similar context, could enlighten SME leaders on the managerial performance required
Emergency Online Learning in Low-Resource Settings: Effective Student Engagement Strategies
We aim to identify the engagement strategies that higher education students, engaging in emergency online learning in low-resource settings, perceive to be effective. We conducted a sequential mixed-methods study based on Mooreâs interaction framework for distance education. We administered a questionnaire to 313 students engaging in emergency online learning in low-resource settings to examine their perceptions of different engagement strategies. Our results showed that studentâcontent engagement strategies, e.g., screen sharing, summaries, and class recordings, are perceived as the most effective, closely followed by studentâteacher strategies, e.g., Q and A sessions and reminders. Studentâstudent strategies, e.g., group chat and collaborative work, are perceived as the least effective. The perceived effectiveness of engagement strategies varies based on the studentsâ gender and technology access. To support instructors, instructional designers, and researchers, we propose a 10-level guide for engaging students during emergency online classes in low-resource settings
The management of SMES in a crisis context : The case of Lebanon
This dissertation focuses on the managerial practices of the Lebanese SMEs leaders. It pursues the overall goal of understanding how, in a crisis marked by rapid change and various uncertainties, these leaders manage to survive and strengthen the resilience of their businesses. From here comes the importance of highlighting these practices in a specific context, a topic that is to the best of our knowledge, not sufficiently covered by the literature. Hence, our research will attempt to understand how Lebanese leaders manage to identify and mobilize the resources and competences available to the company. After a thorough literature review, a framework is built in which the exploratory elements are articulated from the literature. The current study is based on an exploratory qualitative research and founded on an interpretative phenomenological methodology, this thesis falls within the constructivist logic. The case study process that we have adopted for data collection, aims through semi-Structured interviews conducted with fifteen leaders of SMEs, to offer researchers a strategic support tool for managerial decision making, in special conditions. The proposed recommendations will be subject to further verification

Small and medium-sized enterprises are a major constituent of the Lebanese economic fabric.
Emergency remote teaching in low-resource contexts: How did teachers adapt?
28th International Conference on Computers in Education, 23-27 November 2020, Web conference. The COVID-19 pandemic forced students and teachers to engage in emergency remote learning. Remote learning is particularly challenging for students and teachers in lowresource contexts. We aim to analyze the adaptation process of teachers who engaged in remote emergency teaching in low-resource contexts. We conduct ten interviews with teachers who provided emergency online teaching in Lebanon. We show that there was a decrease in synchronous student-teacher, student-content, and student-student interactions due to the scarcity of resources. We also show how the teachers adapted their practice to cope with these challenges, and how their adaptation process increased asynchronous student-teacher and student-content interactions
