VICARIA: An e-Learning System for Risk Assessment

An e-learning system in the risk assessment engineering domain has been developed by a consortium led by Ligeron® in the context of the Vicaria project (Leonado da Vinci – N° PP 118018). The e-learning platform: www.vicaria.fr has been implemented and hosted by OVH in compliance with SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) standard. The Vicaria modules contents have been defined according to an investigation performed in different European countries, particularly in France, to gather the user requirements. The Vicaria contents dedicated mainly to the environmental risks and ICPE are now available for use in French. In-situ technique for checking the calibration of platinum resistance thermometers

The applicability of the self-heating technique for checking the calibration of platinum resistance thermometers located inside wind tunnels was investigated. This technique is based on a steady state measurement of resistance increase versus joule heating. This method was found to be undesirable, mainly because of the fluctuations of flow variables during any wind tunnel testing

Evaluation of industrial platinum resistance thermometers

The calibration and stability of four surface temperature measuring industrial platinum resistance thermometers for use in the temperature range -120 C to 160 C was investigated. It was found that the calibration formulation of the International Practical Temperature Scale of 1968 provided the most accurate calibration. It was also found that all the resistance thermometers suffered from varying degrees of instability and hysteresis

Is my ODE a Painleve equation in disguise?

Painleve equations belong to the class y'' + a_1 {y'}^3 + 3 a_2 {y'}^2 + 3 a_3 y' + a_4 = 0, where a_i=a_i(x,y). This class of equations is invariant under the general point transformation x=Phi(X,Y), y=Psi(X,Y) and it is therefore very difficult to find out whether two equations in this class are related. We describe R. Liouville's theory of invariants that can be used to construct invariant characteristic expressions (syzygies), and in particular present such a characterization for Painleve equations I-IV.Comment: 8 pages. On form-preserving transformations for the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation

In this paper we point out a close connection between the Darboux transformation and the group of point transformations which preserve the form of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation (TDSE). In our main result, we prove that any pair of time-dependent real potentials related by a Darboux transformation for the TDSE may be transformed by a suitable point transformation into a pair of time-independent potentials related by a usual Darboux transformation for the stationary Schr\"odinger equation. Thus, any (real) potential solvable via a time-dependent Darboux transformation can alternatively be solved by applying an appropriate form-preserving transformation of the TDSE to a time-independent potential. The preeminent role of the latter type of transformations in the solution of the TDSE is illustrated with a family of quasi-exactly solvable time-dependent anharmonic potentials.Comment: LaTeX2e (with amsmath, amssymb, amscd, cite packages), 11 page
