Coherent \pi^0 threshold production from the deuteron at Q^2 = 0.1 GeV^2/c^2
First data on coherent threshold \pi^0 electroproduction from the deuteron
taken by the A1 Collaboration at the Mainz Microtron MAMI are presented. At a
four-momentum transfer of q^2=-0.1 GeV^2/c^2 the full solid angle was covered
up to a center-of-mass energy of 4 MeV above threshold. By means of a
Rosenbluth separation the longitudinal threshold s wave multipole and an upper
limit for the transverse threshold s wave multipole could be extracted and
compared to predictions of Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, latex2
A measurement of the axial form factor of the nucleon by the p(e,e'pi+)n reaction at W=1125 MeV
The reaction p(e,e'pi+)n was measured at the Mainz Microtron MAMI at an
invariant mass of W=1125 MeV and four-momentum transfers of Q^2=0.117, 0.195
and 0.273 (GeV/c)^2. For each value of Q^2, a Rosenbluth separation of the
transverse and longitudinal cross sections was performed. An effective
Lagrangian model was used to extract the `axial mass' from experimental data.
We find a value of M_A=(1.077+-0.039) GeV which is (0.051+-0.044) GeV larger
than the axial mass known from neutrino scattering experiments. This is
consistent with recent calculations in chiral perturbation theory.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, uses elsart.cl
Precise Neutron Magnetic Form Factors
Precise data on the neutron magnetic form factor G_{mn} have been obtained
with measurements of the ratio of cross sections of D(e,e'n) and D(e,e'p) up to
momentum transfers of Q^2 = 0.9 (GeV/c)^2. Data with typical uncertainties of
1.5% are presented. These data allow for the first time to extract a precise
value of the magnetic radius of the neutron.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Physics Letters
Self energies of the pion and the delta isobar from the ^3He(e,e'pi^+)^3H reaction
In a kinematically complete experiment at the Mainz microtron MAMI, pion
angular distributions of the He(e,e'H reaction have been measured
in the excitation region of the resonance to determine the
longitudinal (), transverse (), and the interference part of the
differential cross section. The data are described only after introducing
self-energy modifications of the pion and -isobar propagators. Using
Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) to extrapolate the pion self energy as
inferred from the measurement on the mass shell, we deduce a reduction of the
mass of MeV/c in the
neutron-rich nuclear medium at a density of fm. Our data are consistent with the self energy
determined from measurements of photoproduction from He and heavier
nuclei.Comment: Elsart, 12 pages and 4 figures, Correspondent: Professor Dr. Dr. h.c.

Polarization transfer in the HeH reaction
Polarization transfer in the 4He(e,e'p)3H reaction at a Q^2 of 0.4 (GeV/c)^2
was measured at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The ratio of the transverse to the
longitudinal polarization components of the ejected protons was compared with
the same ratio for elastic ep scattering. The results are consistent with a
recent fully relativistic calculation which includes a predicted medium
modification of the proton form factor based on a quark-meson coupling model.Comment: 5 pages, Latex, 2 postscript figures, submitted to Physics Letters
Virtual Compton scattering and polarizabilities
Virtual Compton Scattering (VCS) off the proton-below pion threshold allows access to generalized polarizabilities of the proton. These observables measure the response of the nucleon to low energy electromagnetic field perturbations. This paper presents a comparison with Real Compton Scattering and also results for the first dedicated VCS experiment performed at the Mainz Microtron MAMI with high resolution spectrometers at Q/sup 2/=0.33 GeV/sup 2/
Evaluation of the use of non-pathogenic porcine circovirus type 1 as a vaccine delivery virus vector to express antigenic epitopes of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus
The polarization transfer from longitudinally polarized electrons to protons
in the elastic scattering
has been measured
around = 0.4 (GeV/) with the
three-spectrometer facility at the Mainz microtron MAMI.
From this polarization transfer
the ratio has been determined.
The ratio is found to be slightly less than unity
in agreement with recent results from other laboratories and from
the Rosenbluth separation of cross-sections measured with unpolarized electrons
The horizontal drift chambers for the focal plane proton-polarimeter of the 3-spectrometer setup at MAMI
Large-area horizontal drift chambers have been built for use in a proton polarimeter. A gas mixture of 20% argon and 80% ethane is used. The left–right assignment is achieved by measuring the difference of the signals induced on neighboring potential wires. A spatial resolution of 300 μm is achieved
