The Limits of HRD: Retrieving the Meaning of Workplace Learning
The purpose of this paper is to critically review the perspectives of HRD and its relationship to workplace learning by clarifying existing conceptual ambiguity and suggesting alternative approaches that incorporate various perspectives on work, workplace, and workplace learnin
From Literature Review to Conceptual Model: Apparel Brand\u27s Sustainability Efforts and Consumers\u27 Purchase Decisions
As sustainability initiatives by apparel companies increase, our research purpose is to establish and test a conceptual model examining the effect of sustainability efforts on purchase intention. Our model proposes that sustainability efforts have indirect effects on purchase intention that are mediated by (a) customer-brand (CB) identification, (b) brand attitude, and (c) brand loyalty
Thrilled or Angry: Consumer Emotions on Black Friday
The purposes of this research are to identify personal (prior experience and expectations) and situational (goal blockage) factors evoking consumer emotions on Black Friday (BF) and examine the role consumer emotions play in influencing consumer evaluation of BF. This study employs an online survey with the manipulation of goal blockage (Doorbuster, Stockout, and Wait in line conditions) on BF. A total of 339 people with prior BF experience participated in the online survey. The findings of this study provide insights into the BF shopping experience, especially the process by which personal and situational factors drive consumer BF experience. This study further shows how goal blockage, that can be managed by retailers, plays an important role in eliciting positive and negative emotion

Supersymmetric D-branes in the D1-D5 background
We construct supersymmetric D-brane probe solutions in the background of the
2-charge D1-D5 system on M, where M is either K3 or T^4. We focus on
`near-horizon bound states' that preserve supersymmetries of the near-horizon
AdS_3 x S^3 x M geometry and are static with respect to the global time
coordinate. We find a variety of half-BPS solutions that span an AdS_2 subspace
in AdS_3, carry worldvolume flux and can wrap an S^2 within S^3 and/or
supersymmetric cycles in M.Comment: Latex, 24 pages. v2: references added, modified Discussion, published

Golgi Outpost Synthesis Impaired by Toxic Polyglutamine Proteins Contributes to Dendritic Pathology in Neurons
Dendrite aberration is a common feature of neurodegenerative diseases caused by protein toxicity, but the underlying mechanisms remain largely elusive. Here, we show that nuclear polyglutamine (polyQ) toxicity resulted in defective terminal dendrite elongation accompanied by a loss of Golgi outposts (GOPs) and a decreased supply of plasma membrane (PM) in Drosophila class IV dendritic arborization (da) (C4 da) neurons. mRNA sequencing revealed that genes downregulated by polyQ proteins included many secretory pathway-related genes, including COPII genes regulating GOP synthesis. Transcription factor enrichment analysis identified CREB3L1/CrebA, which regulates COPII gene expression. CrebA overexpression in C4 da neurons restores the dysregulation of COPII genes, GOP synthesis, and PM supply. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)-PCR revealed that CrebA expression is regulated by CREB-binding protein (CBP), which is sequestered by polyQ proteins. Furthermore, co-overexpression of CrebA and Rac1 synergistically restores the polyQ-induced dendrite pathology. Collectively, our results suggest that GOPs impaired by polyQ proteins contribute to dendrite pathology through the CBP-CrebA-COPII pathway. ? 2017 The Author(s)113Ysciescopu
Exploring the Effect of Body Appreciation on the Relationship between Social Networking Site Usage and Body Dissatisfaction
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of body appreciation on the relationship between social networking site usage and body dissatisfaction. An online questionnaire was used completed by 404 participants. A structural equation model was used to test the hypotheses. The results demonstrated that social networking site usage is positively related to body dissatisfaction. However, this relationship is moderated by body appreciation, such that the effect of social appearance comparison on body dissatisfaction can be reduced as individuals experience more body appreciation

Bubbling AdS and droplet descriptions of BPS geometries in IIB supergravity
This paper focuses on supergravity duals of BPS states in N=4 super
Yang-Mills. In order to describe these duals, we begin with a sequence of
breathing mode reductions of IIB supergravity: first on S^3, then S^3 x S^1,
and finally on S^3 x S^1 x CP^1. We then follow with a complete supersymmetry
analysis, yielding 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 BPS configurations, respectively (where in
the last step we take the Hopf fibration of S^3). The 1/8 BPS geometries, which
have an S^3 isometry and are time-fibered over a six-dimensional base, are
determined by solving a non-linear equation for the Kahler metric on the base.
Similarly, the 1/4 BPS configurations have an S^3 x S^1 isometry and a
four-dimensional base, whose Kahler metric obeys another non-linear,
Monge-Ampere type equation.
Despite the non-linearity of the problem, we develop a universal bubbling AdS
description of these geometries by focusing on the boundary conditions which
ensure their regularity. In the 1/8 BPS case, we find that the S^3 cycle
shrinks to zero size on a five-dimensional locus inside the six-dimensional
base. Enforcing regularity of the full solution requires that the interior of a
smooth, generally disconnected five-dimensional surface be removed from the
base. The AdS_5 x S^5 ground state corresponds to excising the interior of an
S^5, while the 1/8 BPS excitations correspond to deformations (including
topology change) of the S^5 and/or the excision of additional droplets from the
base. In the case of 1/4 BPS configurations, by enforcing regularity
conditions, we identify three-dimensional surfaces inside the four-dimensional
base which separate the regions where the S^3 shrinks to zero size from those
where the S^1 shrinks.Comment: 94 pages, 6 figures, latex, typos corrected, references added, one
