    Causes, Effects, and Remedies in Conflict Management

    While workplace conflicts have been widely studied in the literature, this researchprovides a holistic view of the causes and effects of such, and how managers or amanagement can resolve the conflicts among their teams and organization througha detailed, multidimensional framework carried out on one of the biggest textilefirms of Pakistan. With an initial sample of 145 respondents, 37 questionnaireswere dropped because of invalid and incomplete answers; therefore, the studywas carried out on 108 respondents. Conflicts are a part of human nature, butmanagement should play an important role in dealing with these issues, as therecan be enormous chances of conflicts due to a diverse workforce. Conflict alsoresults in poor work performance and low productivity; therefore, it’s suggestedto create teams or groups which may encourage a competitive culture in theorganization. Additionally, a few remedies are identified, which may resolve someissues; managers must look at those techniques for a better culture.&nbsp

    Shock stand-off distance visualization in hypersonic shock tunnel using electrical discharge technique

    Visualization of the detached shock wave that forms ahead of a blunt body flying at hypersonic Mach number using electrical discharge technique is a simple and convenient technique to measure the stand-off distance experimentally in an hypersonic shock tunnel. In this technique a thin sheet of electrical discharge generated between a point electrode attached to the wall of the test section and a line electrode embedded on the model surface reveals the position of the shock wave around the body in hypersonic flow. In this paper we present the details of this technique and sample results obtained for typical body shapes tested in HST2 shock tunnel at a freestream Mach number of 5.75. The detached shock waves in front of the test models are clearly visualized using this technique. The shock stand-off distance estimated based on the numerical results for a large angle blunt cone obtained using a commercial CFD code match well with the experimentally measured value. These results clearly demonstrate the suitability of the electrical discharge technique for visualizing the flowfields in hypersonic testing facilities having very short test time

    Paraperesis: A rare complication after depressed skull fracture

    Depressed skull fracture is an inward buckling of the skull bones, often because of direct blow to a small surface area of the skull with a bluntobject. Monoparesis is often among its clinical presentations, but midline depressed skull fracture presenting as motor weakness of both lowerlimbs (Paraperesis) has not yet been reported. We report the case of 55 year old male admitted to emergency department with alleged history ofhit on head by a wooden rod. He had pain, mild swelling and a small cut over scalp without any symptoms & signs of neurological deficit. On daytwo of admission patient developed weakness of both lower limbs. On CT scan patient had bilateral depressed skull fracture of high parietal boneon either side of midline.     BackgroundThe molecular pathway that controls cardiogenesis is temporally and spatially regulated by master transcriptional regulators such as NKX2-5, Isl1, MEF2C, GATA4, and beta-catenin. The interplay between these factors and their downstream targets are not completely understood. Here, we studied regulation of beta-catenin and GATA4 by NKX2-5 in human fetal cardiac myocytes.Methodology/principal findingsUsing antisense inhibition we disrupted the expression of NKX2-5 and studied changes in expression of cardiac-associated genes. Down-regulation of NKX2-5 resulted in increased beta-catenin while GATA4 was decreased. We demonstrated that this regulation was conferred by binding of NKX2-5 to specific elements (NKEs) in the promoter region of the beta-catenin and GATA4 genes. Using promoter-luciferase reporter assay combined with mutational analysis of the NKEs we demonstrated that the identified NKX2-5 binding sites were essential for the suppression of beta-catenin, and upregulation of GATA4 by NKX2-5.ConclusionsThis study suggests that NKX2-5 modulates the beta-catenin and GATA4 transcriptional activities in developing human cardiac myocytes
