A Lattice Formulation of Super Yang-Mills Theories with Exact Supersymmetry

We construct super Yang-Mills theories with extended supersymmetry on hypercubic lattices of various dimensions keeping one or two supercharges exactly. Gauge fields are represented by ordinary unitary link variables, and the exact supercharges are nilpotent up to gauge transformations. Among the models, we show that the desired continuum theories are obtained without any fine tuning of parameters for the cases N=2,4,8{\cal N}=2, 4, 8 in two-dimensions.Comment: 29 pages, 1 figure, LaTeX, (v2) problem on degenerate vacua discussed, renormalization arguments modified, (v3) explanations and references added, published version in JHE

The Small-x Behaviour of the Singlet Polarized Structure Function g_2 in the Double Logarithmic Approximation

    Get PDF
The small-x behavior of the singlet contributions to the polarized structure function g_2(x,Q^2) is calculated in the double-logarithmic approximation of perturbative QCD. The dominant contribution is due to the gluons which, in contrast to the unpolarized case, mix with the fermions also in the small-x domain. We find a power-like growth in 1/x in the odd-signature parts of the amplitude with the same power as in the singlet function g_1(x,Q^2) at x<< 1.Comment: 20 pages, latex, 3 ps figure

Geometric Scaling in Inclusive Charm Production

    Get PDF
We show that the cross section for inclusive charm production exhibits geometric scaling in a large range of photon virtualities. In the HERA kinematic domain the saturation momentum Qsat2(x)Q_{sat}^2(x) stays below the hard scale ÎŒc2=4mc2\mu_c^2=4m_c^2, implying charm production probing mostly the color transparency regime and unitarization effects being almost negligible. We derive our results considering two saturation models which are able to describe the DESY ep collider HERA data for the proton structure function at small values of the Bjorken variable xx. A striking feature is the scaling on τ=Q22/Qsat2(x)\tau=Q_2^2/Q_{sat}^2(x) above saturation limit, corroborating recent theoretical studies.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Response of the electric field gradient in ion implanted BaTiO3_{3} to an external electric field

    Get PDF
Single crystalline, ferroelectric BaTiO3_{3} as material with the highest piezoelectric constants among the perovskites with ordered sublattices was implanted with 111^{111}In(111^{111}Cd). The electric field gradient at the Ti position was measured with perturbed γ−γ\gamma-\gamma-angular correlation spectroscopy (PAC) while the crystal was exposed to an external electric field. A quadratic dependence could be observed: ÎœQ\nu_{Q}(E) = (34.8(1) + 0.16(4) E/kV/mm + 0.080(2) E2^{2}/kV2^{2}/mm2^{2}) MHz. Point charge model calculations reproduce the linear change of Vzz, but not the quadratic term. The polarizability of the host ions of BaTiO3_{3} is known to be nonlinear with respect to an electric field. The resulting quadratic shift of the electron density is reflected in the strength of the EFG

    QCD analysis of the diffractive structure function F_2^{D(3)}

    Get PDF
The proton diffractive structure function F2D(3)F_2^{D(3)} measured in the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA is analyzed in terms of both Regge phenomenology and perturbative QCD evolution. A new method determines the values of the Regge intercepts in ``hard'' diffraction, confirming a higher value of the Pomeron intercept than for soft physics. The data are well described by a QCD analysis in which point-like parton distributions, evolving according to the DGLAP equations, are assigned to the leading and sub-leading Regge exchanges. The gluon distributions are found to be quite different for H1 and ZEUS. A {\it global fit} analysis, where a higher twist component is taken from models, allows us to use data in the whole available range in diffractive mass and gives a stable answer for the leading twist contribution. We give sets of quark and gluon parton distributions for the Pomeron, and predictions for the charm and the longitudinal proton diffractive structure function from the QCD fit. An extrapolation to the Tevatron range is compared with CDF data on single diffraction. Conclusions on factorization breaking depend critically whether H1 (strong violation) or ZEUS (compatibility at low ÎČ\beta) fits are taken into account.Comment: 24 page

Multi-Regge kinematics and the moduli space of Riemann spheres with marked points

    Get PDF
We show that scattering amplitudes in planar N = 4 Super Yang-Mills in multi-Regge kinematics can naturally be expressed in terms of single-valued iterated integrals on the moduli space of Riemann spheres with marked points. As a consequence, scattering amplitudes in this limit can be expressed as convolutions that can easily be computed using Stokes' theorem. We apply this framework to MHV amplitudes to leading-logarithmic accuracy (LLA), and we prove that at L loops all MHV amplitudes are determined by amplitudes with up to L + 4 external legs. We also investigate non-MHV amplitudes, and we show that they can be obtained by convoluting the MHV results with a certain helicity flip kernel. We classify all leading singularities that appear at LLA in the Regge limit for arbitrary helicity configurations and any number of external legs. Finally, we use our new framework to obtain explicit analytic results at LLA for all MHV amplitudes up to five loops and all non-MHV amplitudes with up to eight external legs and four loops.Comment: 104 pages, six awesome figures and ancillary files containing the results in Mathematica forma

Heavy Quark Photoproduction in k_T Factorization Approach

We investigate the heavy quark photoproduction based on the k_T factorization approach, focusing on the results from the saturation model. The deviations in the results using the unintegrated gluon distribution considering the saturation model and the derivative of the collinear gluon distribution are analysed. Total cross sections and p_T distributions are analysed in detail, setting the deviations between the color dipole approximation and the complete semihard approach.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures, minor changes, references added. Regge Field Theory in zero transverse dimensions: loops versus "net" diagrams

Toy models of interacting Pomerons with triple and quaternary Pomeron vertices in zero transverse dimension are investigated. Numerical solutions for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the corresponding Hamiltonians are obtained, providing the quantum solution for the scattering amplitude in both models. The equations of motion for the Lagrangians of the theories are also considered and the classical solutions of the equations are found. Full two-point Green functions ("effective" Pomeron propagator) and amplitude of diffractive dissociation process are calculated in the framework of RFT-0 approach. The importance of the loops contribution in the amplitude at different values of the model parameters is discussed as well as the difference between the models with and without quaternary Pomeron vertex.Comment: 34 pages, 36 figure

Velocity-selective direct frequency-comb spectroscopy of atomic vapors

    Get PDF
We present an experimental and theoretical investigation of two-photon direct frequency-comb spectroscopy performed through velocity-selective excitation. In particular, we explore the effect of repetition rate on the 5S1/2→5D3/2,5/2\textrm{5S}_{1/2}\rightarrow \textrm{5D}_{3/2, 5/2} two-photon transitions excited in a rubidium atomic vapor cell. The transitions occur via step-wise excitation through the 5P1/2,3/2\textrm{5P}_{1/2, 3/2} states by use of the direct output of an optical frequency comb. Experiments were performed with two different frequency combs, one with a repetition rate of ≈925\approx 925 MHz and one with a repetition rate of ≈250\approx 250 MHz. The experimental spectra are compared to each other and to a theoretical model.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure

Effective action for the Regge processes in gravity

It is shown, that the effective action for the reggeized graviton interactions can be formulated in terms of the reggeon fields A++A^{++} and A−−A^{--} and the metric tensor gΌΜg_{\mu \nu} in such a way, that it is local in the rapidity space and has the property of general covariance. The corresponding effective currents j−j^{-} and j+j^{+} satisfy the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for a massless particle moving in the gravitational field. These currents are calculated explicitly for the shock wave-like fields and a variation principle for them is formulated. As an application, we reproduce the effective lagrangian for the multi-regge processes in gravity together with the graviton Regge trajectory in the leading logarithmic approximation with taking into account supersymmetric contributions.Comment: 39 page
