    Effect of Partial Replacements of Coarse Aggregate by Polycarbonate Plastic Waste on the First Crack Impact Resistance of Concrete Beam

    This paper examines impact strength properties of concrete in which different amounts 2.5%, 5% and 10% of polycarbonate plastic waste particles were used as coarse aggregate replacement. For each amount, six beams of 100 mm ×100 mm × 500mm were subjected to 4.5 kg hammer from 457 mm height. The number of blows of the hammer required to induce the first visible crack of the beams were recorded. The results are presented in terms of impact energy required for the first visible crack. The concrete mixtures exhibited ability to absorb a large amount of impact energy. The polycarbonate plastic waste increased the first crack impact energy of concrete.     Different methods of termination of second trimester pregnancy at Women′s Health Hospital, Assiut University: efficacy and complications

    Background: Termination of pregnancy in second trimester is one of the greatest challenges in modern obstetrics practice and is more risky than during first trimester. Now the main concern of the obstetrician is to provide the most effective, safest, and cost-effective regimen with least or no complications. Describe the different indications, technique and complications of different methods of TOP used at Women’s Health Hospital, Assiut University.  Identify gap between current practice and guidelines and setting recommendations for filling gap to improve outcomeMethods: Studying the different methods used for all cases with gestational age 13-24 weeks attending at Women′s Health Hospital, Assiut University from the 1st July 2015 to the 1st June 2016, for second trimester termination of pregnancy who are eligible for termination of pregnancy, with exclusion criteria including any case with scared uterus, multiple pregnancy and rupture of membranes.Results: Of the 146 patients, 55 patients received misoprostol alone, 13 cases used foley’s catheter alone, 67 cases received misoprostol in combination with foley’s catheter and hysterotomy done in 9 patients (4 after failed induction and the rest as primary procedure). In present work the most common complication recorded was retained placental parts, 39 patients (26,5%) followed by surgical evacuation. Uterine perforation occurred accidentally in 3 cases during evacuation followed by laparotomy and repair of perforation without hysterectomy. Infection recorded in 3 cases (1.7%). Sever haemorhage occurred in 4 cases where they needed hysterotomy.Conclusions: All methods used in the department showed efficacy. Misoprostol induction was associated with a shorter induction-abortion interval but was associated with higher risk of retained placenta. Foley's catheter induction was more prolonged but it was associated with almost no complication. The most common complication was retained placenta except those who used Foley's catheter as they had no retained placental parts

    Isolation of Lactobacillus salivarius from Children and Purification of Bacteriocin to Inhibition Cancer Cell in Vitro

    Bacteria being used to make anticancer agents could provide an extra source of lead compounds for the pharmaceutical industry.  Bacterium Lactobacillus salivarius produce compounds that selectively inhibit growth of human cancer cells Lactobacillus salivarius naturally produces a compound called Bacteriocins.  Bacteriocins are bacterial proteins produced to prevent the growth of competing microorganisms in a particular biological niche and we can use it as antineoplastic. The aim of this study was to isolate bacteriocin produced by lactic acid bacteria. A preparation of bacteriocin from a strain Lactobacillus salivarius has long been shown to have antineoplastic activity against a variety of human tumor and animal tumor cell lines in vitro. A total of 60 LAB  were isolated from children stool 45 isolate showed a clear antimicrobial activity against indicator strain Streptococcus aureus and by used sodium phosphate buffer (pH8) from an 80% ammonium sulfate precipitate. The inhibition  activity was determent by well diffusion assay method technique, Bacteriocin purification processes were carried out by using ion-exchange (Trisacryl SP) and gel filtration chromatography (Sephacryl – S300). The apparent molecular mass of partially purified bacteriocin was 15. 848 kDa,  Cell Culture was maintained in RPMI 1640 medium supplemented with 10% (vol/vol) fetal calf serum,  Cytotoxicity of bacteriocin was assessed on human cell line (RD) and animal cell line (MDCK) cell viability after incubation for 48 h in medium containing 500AU/ml (1.15 mg/ml). Both cell types used in this study were sensitive to bacteriocin and the bacteriocin appeared to inhibit proliferation of tumor cell line.     Using of Chroococcus SP. to Treat Polluted Water with Cadmium & Nickel

    Chroococcus sp. was exposed to different concentrations 0.3, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 ppm, from cadmium and nickel. The results revealed that the ability of the alga to remove cadmium and nickel was increased with the increase of the metal concentration which the alga exposed to them and this case does not record before. This may relate to mechanisms of adsorption and removal which not understood perfectly till now according to many researches that concerned with this field of studies. It was noticed that the removal percentage of cadmium reaches to 77.66 & 76% in the two higher concentrations 6 & 7 ppm, which exposed to the alga till the last day (twelve days) from the experiment, but same percentage (77.66 & 76%) was recorded on the eighth day of the experiment to remove nickel and decrease to 12.5 & 28% on the last day of the experiment for the above two concentrations

    Comparison of intestinal parasitic infection in newly arrived and resident workers in Qatar

    Abstract Background: The rapid growth of Qatar in the last two decades has been associated with an enormous expansion of building programs in its cities and in the provision of new service industries. This in turn has attracted a large influx of immigrant workers seeking employment in jobs associated with food handling, domestic service and the building industry. Many of these immigrants come from countries in the tropics and subtropics where intestinal parasitic infections are common. Methods: We analyzed intestinal parasitic infections recorded in 2008 among immigrant and long-term resident workers in Doha city, Qatar (n = 1538). Stool examinations were carried out at the Hamad Medical Corporation and at the Medical Commission in Doha using standard procedures. Results: Overall, 21.5% of subjects were infected with at least one of the species recorded (8 helminth and 4 protozoan species; the highest prevalence was for hookworms = 8.3%) and there were strong regional effects on prevalence of helminths, with subjects from North East Africa and Nepal showing particularly high prevalence. Most helminths declined in prevalence in subjects that acquired residency status in Qatar, especially among female subjects, but there was a marked exception among male Nepalese workers, who continued to harbour helminth infections (notably hookworms) after they became residents. Contrary to all other regional groups the prevalence of Giardia duodenalis was higher among Nepalese residents compared with new arrivals, while Blastocystis hominis infections were more common among residents of all regions, and especially among North East Africans. Conclusions: Our analysis has identified male Nepalese workers as a particular risk group continuing to harbour hookworm infection and G. duodenalis as residents, and subjects from North East Africa are as particularly likely to acquire B. hominis infection after settling in the country.     TAUTOMERIC TRANSITIONS WITH PHOTO-INDUCED EFFECTS USING LASER BEAM OBSERVED IN ANTIBIOTIC ERYTHROMYCIN - ESTOLATE

    :The photo transitions of Erythromycin 2-propionate dodecyl sulphate (C40H71NO14, C12H26O4S) using Nitrogen Laser beam have been studied at different periods of time. Different techniques have been used to analyze and identify final products. The results showed that photo transitions of Erythromycin - Estolate which measured by conductivity initially increased and then decreased with time especially at high pulse rate. While pH showed a different behavior and initially there was reduction in pH values by increasing the pulse rate. The kinetic study indicated that the rate of reaction is of the second-order type . The qualitative identification showed that the final products were; • First: 6-(4-Dimethylamino-3-O-propionyl –6-methyl- tetrahydro-pyran-2-yloxy)-14-ethyl-4-(5-hydroxy-4-methoxy-4,6-dimethy-tetrahydro-pyran-2-yloxy)-3,5,7,9,11,13-hexamethyl-oxacyclotetradeca-2,10-dione-7,12,13-propaniol dodecyl sulphate.• Second: 6-(4-Dimethylamino-3-O-propionyl –6-methyl- tetrahydro-pyran-2-yloxy)-14-ethyl-4-(5-hydroxy-4-methoxy-4,6-dimethy-tetrahydro-pyran-2-yloxy)-3,5,7,9,11,13-hexamethyl-oxacyclotetradeca-2,9-diene-2,7,10,12,13-pentaol dodecyl sulphate.     The Bivariate Rogers-Szeg\"{o} Polynomials

    We present an operator approach to deriving Mehler's formula and the Rogers formula for the bivariate Rogers-Szeg\"{o} polynomials hn(x,y∣q)h_n(x,y|q). The proof of Mehler's formula can be considered as a new approach to the nonsymmetric Poisson kernel formula for the continuous big qq-Hermite polynomials Hn(x;a∣q)H_n(x;a|q) due to Askey, Rahman and Suslov. Mehler's formula for hn(x,y∣q)h_n(x,y|q) involves a 3ϕ2{}_3\phi_2 sum and the Rogers formula involves a 2ϕ1{}_2\phi_1 sum. The proofs of these results are based on parameter augmentation with respect to the qq-exponential operator and the homogeneous qq-shift operator in two variables. By extending recent results on the Rogers-Szeg\"{o} polynomials hn(x∣q)h_n(x|q) due to Hou, Lascoux and Mu, we obtain another Rogers-type formula for hn(x,y∣q)h_n(x,y|q). Finally, we give a change of base formula for Hn(x;a∣q)H_n(x;a|q) which can be used to evaluate some integrals by using the Askey-Wilson integral.Comment: 16 pages, revised version, to appear in J.     A review on femoropopliteal arterial deformation during daily lives and nickel-titanium stent properties

    The increasing number of studies on the behaviour of stent placement in recent decades provides a clear understanding of peripheral artery disease (PAD). The severe mechanical loads (axial ten�sion and compression, bending, radial compression and torsion) deformation of the femoropopli�teal artery (FPA) is responsible for the highest failure rate of permanent nickel-titanium (Nitinol) stents. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to review research papers that examined the deformation of the natural load environment of FPA, the properties of Nitinol and mechanical considerations.     Effect of chemical treatment on physico-chemical properties of a novel extracted cellulosic Cryptostegia grandiflora fiber

Accordingly, various natural fibers were explored as suitable reinforcement in polymer matrixes due to their low density and biodegradability. Hence, in this present work, a novel fiber reinforcement was extracted from the stem of the Cryptostegia grandiflora (CG) plant through a retting process and manual intervention. The extracted Cryptostegia grandiflora fibers(CGFs)were chemically treated using NaOH and silane. Various properties like crystal structure, chemical composition, surface morphology, and thermal degradation were studied using x-ray diffraction (XRD, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) Scanning electron Microscopy (SEM) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The increasing cellulose content and the removal of hemicellulose after the chemical treatment indicate the potential for this CGfiber as a better reinforcement element in polymers. The increasing trend of tensile strength was observed for the CGfiber in the following order: silane > NaOH > untreated conditions. Two-stage thermal degradation was observed in all the cases where the maximum thermal degradation was found at the silane-treated CGfibers. Based on their performance, the chemically treated CGfibres can be made into composites and used for structural applications.Peer reviewe

    Animal fiber characterization and fiber loading effect on mechanical behaviors of sheep wool fiber reinforced polyester composites

The sheep hair fibers (SHF) characterization was carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and non-contact surface roughness machine. The functional group and chemical bond were analyzed using FTIR techniques. The crystallinity index and thermal stability of the SHF were characterized, using XRD and TGA techniques, respectively. The composites were fabricated using a compression molding technique and a varying weight percentage of 20, 30 and 40 fiber. The composite plates were cut into test samples according to ASTM standard methods for their mechanical (tensile, flexural and impact) behaviors to be extensively analyzed. The surface morphology of the fractured samples was examined with aid of an SEM. From the results obtained, it was evident that the SHFRP composite recorded a significantly increased tensile strength property when fiber loading was increased from 20 to 40 wt%. The optimum 40 wt% SHFRP composite sample recorded better flexural and impact strength, when compared with other counterparts.
