Well controlled in length and highly aligned ZnO nanorods were grown on the gold-coated glass substrate by hydrothermal growth method. ZnO nanorods were functionalised with selective thallium (I) ion ionophore dibenzyldiaza-18-crown-6 (DBzDA18C6). The thallium ion sensor showed wide linear potentiometric response to thallium (I) ion concentrations ( M to  M) with high sensitivity of 36.87 ± 1.49 mV/decade. Moreover, thallium (I) ion demonstrated fast response time of less than 5 s, high selectivity, reproducibility, storage stability, and negligible response to common interferents. The proposed thallium (I) ion-sensor electrode was also used as an indicator electrode in the potentiometric titration, and it has shown good stoichiometric response for the determination of thallium (I) ion
Spectral, Magnetic and Biological Studie on Some Bivalent 3d Metal Complexes of Hydrazine Derived Schiff-Base Ligands
Metal(II) complexes of hydrazine derived Schiff-base ligands of the type M(L)2Cl2 where M = Co, Cu, Ni and Zn and L = L1 and L2 have been prepared and characterised by molar conductance, magnetic moment, elemental analysis and electronic, IR, H-NMR and 13C spectral data. The different modes of chelation of the ligands and their comparative biological properties against different bacterial species are reported
Disorder mediated splitting of the cyclotron resonance in two-dimensional electron systems
We perform a direct study of the magnitude of the anomalous splitting in the
cyclotron resonance (CR) of a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) as a
function of sample disorder. In a series of AlGaAs/GaAs quantum wells,
identical except for a range of carbon doping in the well, we find the CR
splitting to vanish at high sample mobilities but to increase dramatically with
increasing impurity density and electron scattering rates. This observation
lends strong support to the conjecture that the non-zero wavevector, roton-like
minimum in the dispersion of 2D magnetoplasmons comes into resonance with the
CR, with the two modes being coupled via disorder.Comment: accepted to PRB Rapid Com
Biological Role of Cobalt(II), Copper(II) and Nickel(II) Metal Ions on the Antibacterial Properties of Some Nicotinoyl-Hydrazine Derived Compounds
Several cobalt(II), copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes of nicotinoylhydrazine-derived compounds were prepared and characterised by physical, spectral and analytical data. These compounds and their complexes have proven to be antibacterial. The screening data show the metal complexes to be more potential/bactericidal than the uncomplexed compounds against one or more bacterial species
Quasicontinuum -decay of Zr: benchmarking indirect () cross section measurements for the -process
Nuclear level densities (NLDs) and -ray strength functions
(SFs) have been extracted from particle- coincidences of the
Zr()Zr and Zr()Zr
reactions using the Oslo method. The new Zr SF data, combined
with photonuclear cross sections, cover the whole energy range from ~MeV up to the giant dipole resonance at ~MeV. The wide-range SF data display structures at ~MeV, compatible with a superposition of the spin-flip
resonance and a pygmy resonance. Furthermore, the SF shows a
minimum at ~MeV and an increase at lower -ray
energies. The experimentally constrained NLDs and SFs are shown to
reproduce known () and Maxwellian-averaged cross sections for
Zr using the {\sf TALYS} reaction code, thus serving as a benchmark
for this indirect method of estimating () cross sections for Zr
isotopes.Comment: 10 pages and 9 figure
Suppression of Higgsino mediated proton decay by cancellations in GUTs and strings
A mechanism for the enhancement for proton lifetime in
supersymmetric/supergravity (SUSY/SUGRA) grand unified theories (GUTs) and in
string theory models is discussed where Higgsino mediated proton decay arising
from color triplets (anti-triplets) with charges and
is suppressed by an internal cancellation due to contributions
from different sources. We exhibit the mechanism for an SU(5) model with
Higgs multiplets in addition to the usual Higgs structure of
the minimal model. This model contains both and
Higgs color triplets (anti-triplets) and simple constraints allow for a
complete suppression of Higgsino mediated proton decay. Suppression of proton
decay in an SU(5) model with Planck scale contributions is also considered. The
suppression mechanism is then exhibited for an SO(10) model with a unified
Higgs structure involving representations.The SU(5)
decomposition of contains and
and the cancellation mechanism arises among these
contributions which mirrror the SU(5) case. The cancellation mechanism appears
to be more generally valid for a larger class of unification models.
Specifically the cancellation mechanism may play a role in string model
constructions to suppress proton decay from dimension five operators. The
mechanism allows for the suppression of proton decay consistent with current
data allowing for the possibility that proton decay may be visible in the next
round of nucleon stability experiment.Comment: 26 pages, no figures. Revtex 4. To appear in Physical Review
Demand side participation for frequency containment in the web of cells architecture
A large number of demand side management schemes have been proposed in literature for provision of frequency control ancillary services to the network. However, it is assumed that all the flexible devices within the network are managed and controlled under one demand side management (DSM) scheme. In this paper, two independent demand side management schemes control the portfolio of flexible devices within a web of cells architecture. A methodology and scenarios for analysis of the performance of more than one DSM scheme within the same network have been realized using a real-time power hardware-in-the-loop co-simulation platform, and the paper presents this as a basis for investigations of such arrangements
Ancillary service provision by demand side management : a real-time power hardware-in-the-loop co-simulation demonstration
The role of demand side management in providing ancillary services to the network is an active topic of research. However, their implementation is limited due to lack of practical demonstrations and tests that can rigorously quantify their ability to support the grid’s integrity. In this paper, provision of time critical frequency control ancillary service is demonstrated by means of integrating PowerMatcher, a well discussed demand side management mechanism in literature, with real-time power hardware. The co-simulation platform enables testing of demand side management techniques to provide ancillary services
