    Perioperative Glycemic Management

Proposals and Goals: 1. We propose creating a standard easy to use and safe protocol for glycemic management for same day/elective surgical patients. 2. Following implementation in same day and elective surgical procedures, we propose expanding the protocol to be effective in urgent and emergent inpatient surgical procedures.https://jdc.jefferson.edu/patientsafetyposters/1068/thumbnail.jp

Strong practical stability based robust stabilization of uncertain discrete linear repetitive processes

    No full text
Repetitive processes are a distinct class of 2D systems of both theoretical and practical interest whose dynamics evolve over a subset of the positive quadrant in the 2D plane. The stability theory for these processes originally consisted of two distinct concepts termed asymptotic stability and stability along the pass respectively where the former is a necessary condition for the latter. Stability along the pass demands a bounded-input bounded-output property over the complete positive quadrant of the 2D plane and this is a very strong requirement, especially in terms of control law design. A more feasible alternative for some cases is strong practical stability, where previous work has formulated this property and obtained necessary and sufficient conditions for its existence together with Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) based tests, which then extend to allow control law design. This paper develops considerably simpler, and hence computationally more efficient, stability tests that extend to allow control law design in the presence of uncertainty in process model

Standardized Consent Forms for Surgical Procedures: An Intervention to Improve the Resident-led Informed Consent Process

    Get PDF
Objectives and Goals: To provide high quality, consistent consent forms for common surgical procedures and improve resident workflow by creating and implementing standardized printed consents for common surgical procedures. These consents will be used by residents consenting patients in the ED or inpatient setting. Consents shall include standardized procedure descriptions, risks and benefits of the procedure, and alternative treatment option descriptions, risks and benefitshttps://jdc.jefferson.edu/patientsafetyposters/1057/thumbnail.jp

The Inherent Structure Landscape Connection Between Liquids, Granular materials and the Jamming Phase Diagram

We provide a comprehensive picture of the jamming phase diagram by connecting the athermal, granular ensemble of jammed states and the equilibrium fluid through the inherent structure paradigm for a system hard discs confined to a narrow channel. The J-line is shown to be divided into packings that are thermodynamically accessible from the equilibrium fluid and inaccessible packings. The J-point is found to occur at the transition between these two sets of packings and is located at the maximum the inherent structure distribution. A general thermodynamic argument suggests that the density of the states at the configurational entropy maximum represents a lower bound on the J-point density in hard sphere systems. Finally, we find that the granular and fluid systems only occupy the same set of inherent structures, under the same thermodynamic conditions, at two points, corresponding to zero and infinite pressures, where they sample the J-point states and the most dense packing respectively.Comment: 5 pages, 3 Figure

Assignment of the NV0 575 nm zero-phonon line in diamond to a 2E-2A2 transition

The time-averaged emission spectrum of single nitrogen-vacancy defects in diamond gives zero-phonon lines of both the negative charge state at 637 nm (1.945 eV) and the neutral charge state at 575 nm (2.156 eV). This occurs through photo-conversion between the two charge states. Due to strain in the diamond the zero-phonon lines are split and it is found that the splitting and polarization of the two zero-phonon lines are the same. From this observation and consideration of the electronic structure of the nitrogen-vacancy center it is concluded that the excited state of the neutral center has A2 orbital symmetry. The assignment of the 575 nm transition to a 2E - 2A2 transition has not been established previously.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
