Effect of grid system on finite element calculation

    Get PDF
Detailed parametric studies of the effect of grid system on finite element calculation for potential flows were made. These studies led to the formulation of a design criteria for optimum mesh system and the development of two methods to generate the optimum mesh system. The guidelines for optimum mesh system are: (1) the mesh structure should be regular; (2) the element should be as regular and equilateral as possible; (3) the distribution of size of element should be consistent with that of flow variables to insure maximum uniformity in error distribution; (4) for non-Dirichlet boundary conditions, smaller boundary elements or higher order interpolation functions should be used; and (5) the mesh should accommodate the boundary geometry as accurately as possible. The results of the parametric studies are presented

Decay Process for Three - Species Reaction - Diffusion System

We propose the deterministic rate equation of three-species in the reaction - diffusion system. For this case, our purpose is to carry out the decay process in our three-species reaction-diffusion model of the form A+B+CDA+B+C\to D. The particle density and the global reaction rate are also shown analytically and numerically on a two-dimensional square lattice with the periodic boundary conditions. Especially, the crossover of the global reaction rate is discussed in both early-time and long-time regimes.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, Late

High-temperature emissivities of copper, aluminum, and silver

[[abstract]]Using a transient calorimetric technique, the total hemispherical emissivities Eh of very pure copper, aluminum, and silver have been measured at various temperatures in the range 335-1100'K. By carrying out measurements on a sphere, a thin circular disk, and a thin square plate all made of the same copper sample, it is shown that the measured (, is practically independent of the shape of the specimen. Measured E,, values of Cu, Al, and Ag show considerable departure from the theoretical predictions of Davisson and Weeks and the data of previous investigators. Eh data are presented in tabular form at 20'K intervals for all three materials in the range 400-1000'K.[[notice]]補正完畢[[booktype]]紙

Information technology is closely related to wide area networks. BINUS University pays much attention to the development of information technology. Yet, it has not applied all concepts of information technology. There are still activities carried out conventionally such as meeting activity. This is the main attraction of the authors to implement a new system. The purpose of this research is to analyze and design an e-meeting application of Computer Science Department of BINUS University. By using this application, user will be easyto conduct meeting without location barrier. This research is using analysis method on literacy study, as well as analysis on current meeting process through interview with expert and user to detect current problem. Design method usies software engineering concept, by Unified Modeling Language and Entity Relationship Diagram. UML notation explains the overview and the detail of e-meeting system. Relational database explains data structure used in this system. The result of this research is a development of e-meeting web based application to help improve meeting activity to be more effective and efficient. E-meeting application has many helpful features as used in regular meeting, as well as administration panel to control and manage user of this application

Observation of sub-Poisson photon statistics in the cavity-QED microlaser

We have measured the second-order correlation function of the cavity-QED microlaser output and observed a transition from photon bunching to antibunching with increasing average number of intracavity atoms. The observed correlation times and the transition from super- to sub-Poisson photon statistics can be well described by gain-loss feedback or enhanced/reduced restoring action against fluctuations in photon number in the context of a quantum microlaser theory and a photon rate equation picture. However, the theory predicts a degree of antibunching several times larger than that observed, which may indicate the inadequacy of its treatment of atomic velocity distributions.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Sustainability of Sustainable Real Property Development

The paper investigates commercial buildings users' perception of the benefits of green buildings and how this perception influences their decision to occupy and/or invest in them. A survey of 400 commercial real estate users in Singapore reveals that they are aware of, and appreciate the benefits of green buildings. However, they are not willing to occupy and/or invest in green buildings as they are concerned with monetary returns. Price, reliability, and effectiveness of green features, as well as apathy towards environmental issues, are impeding the sustainability of sustainable commercial real estate in Singapore. Notwithstanding, since it was found that cost saving and higher property value benefits statistically influence respondents' willingness to invest in, or occupy green buildings, turning the sustainability advocacy into realistic economic advocacy could ensure sustainability of sustainable real estate development

Temperature variation of total hemispherical emissivity of stainless steel AISI 304

[[abstract]]Numerical values of the total hemispherical emissivities Eh of a mechanically polished surface and an electropolished surface of a sample of stainless steel, type AISI 304, have been determined experimentally for the first time in the temperature range 340-1100 K. An absolute method incorporating the transient calorimetric principle was used in these measurements. It is found that the 4Eh values obtained are only very slightly different from those predicted by a classical expression for total hemispherical emissivity developed by Davisson and Weeks.[[notice]]補正完畢[[booktype]]紙

Modular detergents tailor the purification and structural analysis of membrane proteins including G-protein coupled receptors

Detergents enable the purification of membrane proteins and are indispensable reagents instructural biology. Even though a large variety of detergents have been developed in the lastcentury, the challenge remains to identify guidelines that allowfine-tuning of detergents forindividual applications in membrane protein research. Addressing this challenge, here weintroduce the family of oligoglycerol detergents (OGDs). Native mass spectrometry (MS)reveals that the modular OGD architecture offers the ability to control protein purificationand to preserve interactions with native membrane lipids during purification. In addition to abroad range of bacterial membrane proteins, OGDs also enable the purification and analysisof a functional G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR). Moreover, given the modular design ofthese detergents, we anticipatefine-tuning of their properties for specific applications instructural biology. Seen from a broader perspective, this represents a significant advance forthe investigation of membrane proteins and their interactions with lipids
