Celebrating Diversity through Spirituality in the Workplace: Transforming Organizations Holistically

    Get PDF
Managing diversity effectively is the key to attract and retain a productive workforce. Research demonstrates that celebrating diversity leads to greater productivity, increased creativity, and heightened morale and motivation. Organizations often benefit from the differing perspectives and rich experiences a diverse workforce provides. Similarly, organizations can enhance their creativity by encouraging diverse perspectives and opinions. Thus, issues of managing diversity, valuing diversity, and celebrating diversity have assumed added importance. This paper suggests that diversity is not a problem, but rather a solution to most of the challenges organizations face such as employee engagement and participation. Managing workforce diversity effectively transcends meeting a company’s legal requirements and complying with equal opportunity and non-discrimination regulation. Leaders need to understand and deal constructively with their own biases and prejudices that hinder diversity. Celebrating diversity is the extension of healthy spirituality that leads us to celebrate our differences and view diversity as different manifestations of the underlying Unity that permeates every phenomenon. This paper discusses key advantages of celebrating diversity, pinpoints barriers to organizational diversity, and offers some perspectives to overcome barriers to inclusiveness

Concise Synthesis of (+)-allo-Kainic Acid via MgI2-Mediated Tandem Aziridine Ring Opening-Formal [3+2] Cycloaddition

3-Methyl vinyl aziridine undergoes a mild MgI2-promoted S(N)2' ring opening and concomitant cyclization with fumarate Michael acceptors to give trisubstituted pyrrolidines. The process is efficient and highly diastereoselective. This methodology has been applied to a concise asymmetric synthesis of (+)-allo-kainic acid.</p

    ATTEMPTED SYNTHESIS OF BIS-SPIROEPOXIDE DITHIANEDIOXIDE

    Get PDF
The bis-spiroepoxide dithiane dioxide has been attempted to be synthesised as its role as an intermediate in the synthesis of diaminopimelic acid (DAP). The first method was carried out by reacting the 3-dithiane-2- diethylphosphonate 4 with an aqueous solution of the commercially available glutaraldehide resulting the bis-ketene dithiane dioxide 5. The second alternative method was involving the ozonolysis of cyclopentene 7 in the synthesis of bis-ketene dithiarie dioxide 5 in four step reactions which gave moderate to good yield. Unfortunately, epoxidation process for the bis-ketene dithiane dioxide 5 was still unsuccess yet

Racemic spiro-epoxide, (7RS, 1RS, 3RS)-phenethyl-10-oxa-1,3-dithiaspiro[6,7]octane 1,3-dioxide 12, can be synthesised in four step reactions, sequences starting from the commercially available 1,3-dithiane 8. The synthesis of aza ß-lactam, 1,2-dimethyl-4(R,S)-phenethyl-[1,2]diazetidin-3one 13, was successfully carried out by opening the epoxide by 1,2-dimethyl hydrazine salt in moderate yield. Keywords : epoxide, aza-ß-lacta

Abstract: Using iterative lithiation-borylation homologations, the mycolactone toxin core has been synthesized in 13 steps and 17 %o verall yield. The rapid build-up of molecular complexity,h igh convergencea nd high stereoselectivitya re noteworthy features of this synthesis. The third most common Mycobacterium infection( after M. tuberculosis and M. leprae)i sthat of M. ulcerans,t he pathogen responsible for the severeu lcerative skin disease,B uruli ulcer. [1] Endemic in tropical Africa, it infects over 5000 patients per annum with 48 %o fc ases being aged under 15. [1a, 2] Transmission is thought to occur by an aquatic organism bite, [3] with initial manifestation occurring as ap ainless skin nodule. If diagnosed early, simple antibiotic chemotherapyi seffective (80 %), [4] however, if untreated, propagation of the infection results in large skin lesions of necrotic tissue and bone loss which are only treatable througha ggressive surgery,r esulting in scarring and loss of limb function.
