    The Anharmonic Correction in the Soliton Model for the Hyperons

    We derive the anharmonic correction to the hyperon energy in the bound state version of the topological soliton model for the hyperons, and show that it represents a negative correction of at most 10% to the energy of the bound heavy flavour two-meson system in the case of cascade hyperons. The main anharmonic correction arises from the mass term in the Lagrangian density. For large meson masses the consistency of the model requires that the anharmonic correction decreases as the inverse square root of the mass of the heavy flavour meson.Comment: 19 page

    Dilatons in the topological soliton model for the hyperons

    We show that the predicted hyperon masses in the topological soliton model are very sensitive to the value of the gluon condensate parameter that appears when the scale invariance and trace anomaly of QCD are taken into account by introduction of a dilaton field. This contrasts with the insensitivity of the soliton properties to the dilaton coupling. In order that the predicted strange and charmed hyperon spectra agree with the empirical ones the gluon condensate parameter has to be about (400 MeV)4^4, which agrees with the result obtained from QCD sum rules. This implies that the bag formed by the scalar field must be very shallow.Comment: 13 page

    Effect of Activated Charcoal Addition on Formaldehyde Emission of Medium Density Fiberboard

    The manufacturing of medium density fiberboard (MDF) using dry forming process for interior purpose requires extensive amount of thermo-setting urea formaldehyde (UF) adhesive. Unfortunately, this adhesive brings about formaldehyde emission from the resulting MDF, which was potentially harmful to human beings. The use of activated charcoal can be effective to reduce such emission. As the relevance, this research aimed to investigate the effect of activated charcoal addition to the MDF pulp on formaldehyde emission from the MDF. The fibers for the MDF-mat forming were the pulp procured from the MDF factory, resulting from the thermo-mechanical pulping (TMP) conducted on the mixed mangium wood (Acacia mangium) and rubber wood (Hevea Brasiliensis) in 3:1 (w/w) proportion, respectively. Such mixed TMP pulping was also done in the factor y. The bonding between TMP pulp fiber during mat forming was assisted by the use of UF adhesive. Prior to the MDF mat forming , was added to the resulting TMP pulp-fibers activated charcoal in various amount, 2%, 4% and 6% based on fiber mass as well as based on UF adhesive mass. The activated charcoal was prepared by carbonizing candle nut shell into charcoal followed by activation process using phosphate solution. Meanwhile the forming of MDF mat employed air-dr y process. As the control, MDF forming with UF adhesive was performed without addition of activated charcoal. It turned out that the activated charcoal-added MDF exhibited effective reduction in formaldehyde emission and significant improvement in physical and mechanical properties, i.e. lower thickness swelling , and greater MOR , MOE and internal bond, compared to the control MDF. The use of activated charcoal at 4% based on the adhesive mass seemed to be the optimum amount. Physical and mechanical properties of the activated charcoal added MDF could mostly meet the JIS specification

    Tulisan ini menyajikan kadar resin dan komposisi senyawa kimia dari beberapa kualitas gaharu menggunakan kromatografi gas spektrometri massa. Kualitas gaharu yang diuji adalah kelas super dan kemedangan yang berasal dari Bangka, Papua dan Asosiasi Pengusaha Eksportir Gaharu Indonesia (Asgarin). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rendemen resin gaharu lebih tinggi pada kelas kualitas super daripada kelas kemedangan. Gaharu berkadar resin tinggi dianggap sebagai berkualitas tinggi (super), dan komposisi kimianya didominasi oleh chromone dan gamma gurjunene. Sebaliknya gaharu berkualitas rendah (kemedangan) berkomposisi kimia 2,5 furandione, 3-dodecenyl dan agarospirol. Komponen kimia gaharu kelas super mengandung lebih banyak senyawa kelompok sesquiterpena dibanding kelas kemedangan. Senyawa sesquiterpene dan chromone berindikasi kuat menyebabkan aroma harum pada gaharu. Kualitas gaharu pada kelas yang sama menunjukkan rendemen resin dan komposisi kimia yang berbeda dari tiga lokasi yang diteliti

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rendemen ekstrak gaharu pada berbagai pelarut berturut-turut paling tinggi adalah kualitas super AB, kacangan C, teri C, dan kemedangan C. Komponen kimia gaharu mengandung senyawa furan dan kelompok ester lainnya yang menimbulkan aroma wangi.     Estimation of Soil Moisture for Different Crops Using SAR Polarimetric Data

    Soil moisture is an essential factor that influences agricultural productivity and hydrological processes. Soil moisture estimation using field detection methods takes time and is challenging. However, using Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, soil moisture parameters become easier to detect. In microwave remote sensing, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data helps to retrieve soil moisture from more considerable depths because of its high penetration capability and the illumination power of its light source. This study aims to process the SAR Sentinel-1A data and estimate soil moisture using the Water Cloud Model (WCM). Many physical and empirical models have been developed to determine soil moisture from microwave remote sensing platforms. However, the Water Cloud Model gives more accurate results. In this study, the WCM model is used for mixed crop types. The experimental soil moisture was determined from in-situ soil samples collected from various agricultural areas. The soil backscattering values corresponding to the different soil sampling locations were derived from Sentinel SAR data. Using linear regression analysis, the laboratory's soil moisture results and soil backscattering values were correlated to arrive at a model. The model was validated using a secondary set of in-situ moisture content values taken during the same period. The R2 and RMSE of the model were observed to be 0.825 and 0.0274, respectively, proving a strong correlation between the experimental soil moisture and satellite-derived soil moisture for mixed crop field types. This paper explains the methodology for arriving at a model for soil moisture estimation.     What Patients Want to Know about Imaging Examinations: A Multiinstitutional U.S. Survey in Adult and Pediatric Teaching Hospitals on Patient Preferences for Receiving Information before Radiologic Examinations

    Purpose To identify what information patients and parents or caregivers found useful before an imaging examination, from whom they preferred to receive information, and how those preferences related to patient-specific variables including demographics and prior radiologic examinations. Materials and Methods A 24-item survey was distributed at three pediatric and three adult hospitals between January and May 2015. The χ2 or Fisher exact test (categorical variables) and one-way analysis of variance or two-sample t test (continuous variables) were used for comparisons. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine associations between responses and demographics. Results Of 1742 surveys, 1542 (89%) were returned (381 partial, 1161 completed). Mean respondent age was 46.2 years ± 16.8 (standard deviation), with respondents more frequently female (1025 of 1506, 68%) and Caucasian (1132 of 1504, 75%). Overall, 78% (1117 of 1438) reported receiving information about their examination most commonly from the ordering provider (824 of 1292, 64%), who was also the most preferred source (1005 of 1388, 72%). Scheduled magnetic resonance (MR) imaging or nuclear medicine examinations (P < .001 vs other examination types) and increasing education (P = .008) were associated with higher rates of receiving information. Half of respondents (757 of 1452, 52%) sought information themselves. The highest importance scores for pre-examination information (Likert scale ≥4) was most frequently assigned to information on examination preparation and least frequently assigned to whether an alternative radiation-free examination could be used (74% vs 54%; P < .001). Conclusion Delivery of pre-examination information for radiologic examinations is suboptimal, with half of all patients and caregivers seeking information on their own. Ordering providers are the predominant and preferred source of examination-related information, with respondents placing highest importance on information related to examination preparation

    Kajian Struktur Arang dari Lignin

    Tulisan ini membahas struktur arang dari lignin pada suhu karbonisasi yang berbeda. Proses pembuatan arang lignin dilakukan pada suhu 200, 300, 400, 500, 650, 750 dan 850°C dalam suatu retort yang terbuat dari baja tahan karat yang dilengkapi dengan pemanas listrik Untuk mengetahui Perubahan struktur arang yang terjadi dilakukan analisis dengan menggunakan FTIR, XRD dan SEM. Hasil analisis XRD menunjukkan bahwa jarak antar ruang lapisan aromatik (d) dan lebar lapisan aromatik (La) menurun dengan makin meningkatnya suhu karbonisasi, sedangkan untuk tinggi lapisan aromatik (Lc), derajat kristalinitas (X) dan jumlah lapisan aromatik (N) meningkat dengan makin naiknya suhu karbonisasi. Spektrum FTIR dari arang lignin menunjukkan bahwa antara suhu 300-500°C terjadi Perubahan struktur kimia dari bahan baku secara nyata. Ikatan OH, dan C=C alifatik menurun dengan naiknya suhu, sedangkan struktur eter dan aromatik makin berkembang. Pada suhu 850°C arang yang dihasilkan mempunyai struktur aromatik yang permukaannya mempunyai gugus C-O-C, C=O dan C- H. Analisis SEM menunjukkan bahwa jumlah dan diameter pori arang meningkat dengan makin naiknya suhu karbonisasi. Kualitas arang yang baik diperoleh pada suhu karbonisasi 500°C yang menghasilkan derajat kristalinitas sebesar 33,90 %, tinggi lapisan aromatik 3.21 nm, lebar lapisan aromatik 10,96 nm, jumlah lapisan aromatik 8,67, jarak antar lapisan aromatik d(002) = 0,35 nm dan d(100) = 0,21 nm dengan diameter pori arang antara 12,6 mm. Arang ini mempunyai sifat keteraturan yang tertinggi, permukaannya bersifat polar, kaku, keras dan struktur porinya makropor
