Range and range rate system
A video controlled solid state range finding system which requires no radar, high power laser, or sophisticated laser target is disclosed. The effective range of the system is from 1 to about 200 ft. The system includes an opto-electric camera such as a lens CCD array device. A helium neon laser produces a source beam of coherent light which is applied to a beam splitter. The beam splitter applies a reference beam to the camera and produces an outgoing beam applied to a first angularly variable reflector which directs the outgoing beam to the distant object. An incoming beam is reflected from the object to a second angularly variable reflector which reflects the incoming beam to the opto-electric camera via the beam splitter. The first reflector and the second reflector are configured so that the distance travelled by the outgoing beam from the beam splitter and the first reflector is the same as the distance travelled by the incoming beam from the second reflector to the beam splitter. The reference beam produces a reference signal in the geometric center of the camera. The incoming beam produces an object signal at the camera

The inner few hundred parsecs of our galaxy provide a laboratory for the
study of the production and propagation of energetic particles.
Very-high-energy gamma-rays provide an effective probe of these processes and,
especially when combined with data from other wave-bands, gamma-rays
observations are a powerful diagnostic tool. Within this central region, data
from the H.E.S.S. instrument have revealed three discrete sources of
very-high-energy gamma-rays and diffuse emission correlated with the
distribution of molecular material. Here I provide an overview of these recent

The ‘cost’ of caring in policing: From burnout to PTSD in police officers in England and Wales
This article looks at secondary trauma of police officers caused by working with traumatised victims, examining what is the true ‘cost of caring’ for police officers in England and Wales. It will discuss common work-related ‘stressors’ in policing and review the concepts commonly associated with secondary trauma such as ‘burnout’, ‘vicarious trauma’, ‘compassion fatigue’, ‘secondary traumatic stress’ and their impact. It will conclude with some recommendations and highlight the serious lack of literature on this topic, making secondary trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder in policing an under researched area, particularly in relation to the effects of cumulative trauma in policing
Application of an AIS to the problem of through life health management of remotely piloted aircraft
The operation of RPAS includes a cognitive problem for the operators(Pilots,
maintainers, ,managers, and the wider organization) to effectively maintain their situational
awareness of the aircraft and predict its health state. This has a large impact on their ability
to successfully identify faults and manage systems during operations. To overcome these
system deficiencies an asset health management system that integrates more cognitive
abilities to aid situational awareness could prove beneficial. This paper outlines an artificial
immune system (AIS) approach that could meet these challenges and an experimental
method within which to evaluate it
